Looks like a well engineered carrier. basils 01-11-2006, 06:33 AM I've done a lot of Mountain and Road cycling. No pictures with the Ridge yet. But I have a question. Isn't it rather expensive ($200-300) to have a rack like that? Why can't you just place the bike in the back on it's side? That's what I do....no fuss, it stays put, and costs nothing. I just lay a piece of carpet or mat down so that I don't get any scratches on the bed or bike. I use the money I save on bike parts...lol. Motoman 01-11-2006, 08:52 AM Yours is easier to load. mayfielh 01-11-2006, 09:18 AM I bet yours is easier to climb a hill with! Nice pic :) Climb a what??? I have a hybrid mountain bike. Weighs darn near as much motorcycle but has peddles. My current ride is a Specialized Big Hit DH Pro (8" of travel front and rear). I'm working on rebuiding my old x-country bike just to use as trainer. No pics in the RL right now. I usually ride Ski Bowl, Willamette Pass, Whistler B.C. and McCulloch. Motoman 01-11-2006, 12:25 PM Thanks. It is much more fun to jump the hill. :D After banging around the track, it is sure nice to have such a luxurious ride home. This truck is amazing. 5S Dude 01-11-2006, 12:43 PM Hey Motoman, Welcome to the family! Where do you ride your RM? Their are a bunch of us meeting out at El Mirage dry lakes this weekend and you are more than welcome to join us!! Ron (5S Dude) gpruchniewski 01-11-2006, 01:27 PM I've posted this before, but it is one of my favorite pictures so I don't mind posting it again and again and again and again......... Motoman 01-11-2006, 01:38 PM Thanks. I am in Houston. We have an incredible track 30 miles away in Splendora. I am selling my Colorado LS Sport regular cab. It is nice but I do not miss the ride. I want to change these wheels and tires but they ride so darn good. I wonder what a set of flat black powder coated factory rims would look like? The black chrome look chrome to me. A little better but still chrome. Where are the El Mirage dry lakes? SSquire 01-11-2006, 02:04 PM I'm hoping mine won't have to ride back there at all (only if she's hurt bad...) BannedUser 01-11-2006, 02:08 PM I'm hoping mine won't have to ride back there at all (only if she's hurt bad...) Where is that? Looks kind of like Banff. It's gorgeous. 5S Dude 01-11-2006, 04:17 PM Thanks. I am in Houston. We have an incredible track 30 miles away in Splendora. I am selling my Colorado LS Sport regular cab. The black chrome look chrome to me. A little better but still chrome. Where are the El Mirage dry lakes? Oh, There a short drive into the heart of SoCal desert. Well have fun riding anyways. I'm just getting back into it after a 10yr layoff. Skywalker 01-12-2006, 06:33 AM My other ride.... BKLYNBOY11 01-12-2006, 09:49 AM Tell the truth, HOW NICE DOES BLACK LOOK WHEN CLEANED UP!!!!:D The bike pics look great, never saw the rack like that yet. Looks really easy to use! hnc 01-12-2006, 12:22 PM Here's my best toys from 05: My Titus Racer-X on the RL. I ride at Chimney Rock and Round Valley in New Jersey (Rocky, wooded Singletrack). Hoping to go in the next few days with the warm spell. SSquire 01-12-2006, 01:11 PM Where is that? Looks kind of like Banff. It's gorgeous. It's on Rt 302 in front of the Mt. Washington Hotel (Mt. Washington is the tallest of the visible peaks (and of the ones nearby that you can't see)) in Bretton Woods, NH. Just about anything in the area wouldn't be a bad place for a ROC meeting! hotel link (http://www.mtwashington.com/) mayfielh 01-12-2006, 01:20 PM Here's a sad pic of my bike in the garage. It‘s my 1990 GT Team Edition RTS. A blast from my cave man past huh guys? mayfielh 01-12-2006, 04:16 PM I dug my antique out from under 10 years of garage stuff and took some photos just for AIBIKR, Skywalker, hnc & mayfielh. It‘s my 1990 GT Team Edition RTS. A blast from my cave man past huh guys? Nice classic but they loose value when you take them out of their wrappers.:D Cantilever brakes I can't remember the last time I saw those. Heck my 4 year old's bike has 6" disc brakes I'm sure you noticed this alreay but your bike and truck are both RTS models. 5S Dude 01-12-2006, 04:40 PM Nice classic but they loose value when you take them out of their wrappers.:D Cantilever brakes I can't remember the last time I saw those. Heck my 4 year old's bike has 6" disc brakes I'm sure you noticed this alreay but your bike and truck are both RTS models. Yeah huh. Now that you mention it. That is kinda cool! This bike was the SH#$^ back in the day. Can you imagine roosting down a ski slope during a blazing hot summer day with hardly any brakes what so ever! SewerSide my friend. Lot's of cool scar tissue from those good old days! Now I’m just an old fart with some really crazy memories. hnc 01-12-2006, 05:09 PM I dug my antique out from under 10 years of garage stuff and took some photos just for AIBIKR, Skywalker, hnc & mayfielh. It‘s my 1990 GT Team Edition RTS. A blast from my cave man past huh guys? It's cool to see how the FSR bikes have changed over the past 16 years. I like how the water bottle is mounted. Orange County is a great place for mountain biking - I've ridden at El Moro Canyon and Aliso Wood Canyons during my trips out there. Looks like your bike is still rideable - time to take it out of retirement:) CBRidgeJockey 01-12-2006, 06:49 PM I'm left my Specialized Rock Hopper in Edmonton....but will this do.... 5S Dude 01-12-2006, 07:20 PM Hi hnc, Are you originally from the OC? I know the new bikes are so plush by comparison but they cost as much as a new dirt bike so I bought another Honda dirt bike instead. I still ride the RTS but it has only been around the school track and my Daughters High School to keep my boyish figure. Hey CBRidgeJockey, I just got home from getting my new dirt bike and saw all the new knee draggers. I can’t tell the years anymore. What year is your F4? It looks like so much fun!!! I’ve stayed away from motorcycles the whole time we raised the kids and now it’s daddies turn to have some fun! 5S Dude 01-12-2006, 07:24 PM Now that it's out, you may as well use it... I had a ridgid frame GT as my first "real" mtn bike. Next came a '98 I-Drive XCR4000. When I bent that one at the rear shock, GT warranteed it with an I-Drive 1.0 frame. Seven months later when I bent that frame at the seat mast, my bike shop got a refund from GT and got me a Specialized s-works FSR. That frame lasted about 3.5 years before it bent at the linkage at the top of the rear shock... Along came the s-works epic. GT still holds a place in my Mtn Biking heart (attack) though... Thanks for sharing 5S dude! Man Dude! You play much too hard with your toys! Do you still get the "Urge"? NC Blue 01-12-2006, 08:21 PM Here are my babies. 5S Dude 01-12-2006, 08:26 PM You know, although I had a great childhood, we didn't have all that much. I find it harder now to justify having a nice bike and NOT using it ( that whole Native American "waste not" stuff.) "If you USE it, it WILL break...eventually." That's what frame warrantees are for... Me too! We grew up pretty much the same. I think that's why we appreciate nice things so much in our lives now. My GT snapped at the shock mount and Gary gave me a brand new frame and even offered to powder-coat it for me. The thing I hate most is the lifetime warrantees for stuff and when it poops out you go back to where you bought it and it’s turned into a Quicky Mart!!! :D mayfielh 01-12-2006, 08:26 PM I know the new bikes are so plush by comparison but they cost as much as a new dirt bike so I bought another Honda dirt bike instead. ! I have oveer $6,000 into my bike as it sits right now. Probably could have gotten a couple used Hondas with motors for that. spdrcr5 01-12-2006, 10:27 PM Here are my bikes in my internal bike rack I put together for my Element. :) http://pictureposter.allbrand.nu/pictures/larrytt/hondaelement/projects/bike+rack/img_1038+small.jpg Trek 5200 on the left and Yeti Kokopelli on the right. I gave up bikes 15 years ago cuz of the new babies...nows its Daddy's time to have some more fun. Hey NC BLue...you can eat off your garage floor...geeesh Love bikes in any shape or form....will post my Mountain bike once I get a pic done... Motoman 01-13-2006, 06:56 AM Here are my Race bikes. The Yamaha has been sold. The RMZ is crazy fast. hnc 01-13-2006, 07:12 AM Hi hnc, Are you originally from the OC? I’ve stayed away from motorcycles the whole time we raised the kids and now it’s daddies turn to have some fun! Hi, 5S Dude, My company HQ is out in Costa Mesa, and I travel out several times a year. Every time I go out, I look for a new trail, although since the mountain lion incident, I don't go solo anymore. Also restaurants out where you live. Best restaurant - Las Brisas in Laguna Beach. Skywalker 01-13-2006, 07:30 AM I dug my antique out from under 10 years of garage stuff and took some photos just for AIBIKR, Skywalker, hnc & mayfielh. It‘s my 1990 GT Team Edition RTS. A blast from my cave man past huh guys? Classic! A photo of my old bike before it went into retirement (read dismembered :D ). It is a Kuwahara Cascade mtn bike that has seen its share of mountain trails. After much riding and multiple bearing swaps, the crank was so worn that it was time to go shopping for its replacement. After 17 years, it owed me nothing. hnc 01-13-2006, 07:54 AM Classic! A photo of my old bike before it went into retirement (read dismembered :D ). After 17 years, it owed me nothing. Hi, Skywalker. Love these antique bikes. I retired my 95 Trek 7000 SHX late last year when my shop's new mechanic told me how much he loved these 'Antique bikes'. After a two month hiatus, my 7000 came out of retirement and is back on the trails again. What did you replace the Kuwahara with? Another rigid frame? 5S Dude 01-13-2006, 08:02 AM Motoman, Great photos! That looks like Ricky’s practice bike!! Very nice! I ride a Honda now (in my old age) but I think it’s team greens turn this year! As long as “Bubba” keeps the rubber side down…. CBRidgeJockey, What cha gonna get for father’s day!! Now that Daddy gets to play? Hnc, That mountain lion incident put a damper on a lot of trail riding, but you know he was there first and he just got hungry! I guess stuff like that could happen anywhere in the remote areas that bikes travel. Really scary! I will have to take Cindy to Las Brisas in Laguna Beach for her birthday. Thanks for the hot tip. Skywalker, I used to ride with a fellow engineer at work and he brought that very same scooter to the chair lifts in the SoCal mountains. I had just bought my GT and as we descended down a really rough section of single track, I looked over my shoulder to see how far back I had dropped him and to my amazement, he was right on my heels. When we got to the bottom, I had a whole new respect for this crazy knucklehead. Isn’t kinda a funny, When we all started riding, most of us start on a small relatively docile bike and progressively elevate to a crazy faster bigger bike! And then when we get older (& hopefully wiser) we tend to gravitate back to the smaller less crazy scooters so we don’t end up killing ourselves? You guys all have a great week! ROC-on! Ron (5S Dude) Skywalker 01-13-2006, 01:02 PM What did you replace the Kuwahara with? Another rigid frame? I was going to go with a hardtail, but after riding a Rocky Mountain Instinct, my old bones welcomed the full suspension and lightness of this bike (see post 17 of this thread for the photo) . The manufacturer had changed the naming convention of this model, it was pre winter and the Bike shop wanted to make some room, so I ended up getting it at cost. Take a look at the Rocky Mountain Bike website, lots of good bikes. They are based near Vancouver BC. http://www.bikes.com/index.aspx hnc 01-13-2006, 03:33 PM I was going to go with a hardtail, but after riding a Rocky Mountain Instinct, my old bones welcomed the full suspension and lightness of this bike (see post 17 of this thread for the photo) . You've got some great trails in your neck of the woods, and your Instinct looks like a great bike for them! Ultra-HOG 01-13-2006, 04:39 PM Guess which one gets used the most... Cajun Country Ridgeline 01-13-2006, 07:45 PM When I saw, Bikers post some pics, I didnot realize you meant Mnt. Bikes. until I saw your great pics. Looks like a lot of fun. Down here in the swamp lands, When you say Bikes, they are refering to Harley's Honda's etc. We do have a lot of ATV's and Dirt Bikes run in the nothern woods of La. Great fun. For me, I will ride Big Red on the highways and byways of the Rockies this year, if all goes well. BCP:D 5S Dude 01-14-2006, 11:55 PM Nice cruiser, CCR. I would love to get a bike with a motor someday, but right now, flying past trees in the woods at 10-20mph under pedal power is great enjoyment any chance I can get it. A motorcycle? My kids don't see me enough already.;) Get them all on a motorcycle and take um with you! Very rewarding!! beemr 01-15-2006, 05:59 PM Here is one of the many reasons I purchased the Ridgeline - you can bet I did some serious measuring before buying my Ridge to make sure my BMW R90s would fit! 4735 :) 5S Dude 01-16-2006, 12:08 PM Hi beemr, Man it's been awhile since we've heard from you! Miss Ellie & Co. 06-05-2006, 01:15 PM Here's some terrific videos of the world famous "Great Flume Ride and the T.R.T." mountain bike trails at high in the sky Lake Tahoe. The vids are each about 4 minutes long and taken by a MTB'er with a helmet cam. The Upper Rim Trail video is the tamer of the two but has a funny ending. The Flume Trail video is phenominal with breath taking scenery and exteme drop offs. Islandpete found these vids and we've been flaunting them around in the EOC, getting members all jacked up and making personal pledges to take on these trails while attending the EOC/ROC Lake Tahoe camping trip this August. I know there are a few Ridgeline members planning on making the Tahoe trip and thought you guys might like to see these vids. I looked the truck over and did some measuring and found I could get four bikes crosswise in the back of the truck. Two fit fine with a kayak on top and the truck still opens to stow gear as you can see. I used a locking mount from Thule, which allows me to secure the bikes when we are kayaking. I just finished completeing the custom exhaust. Factory header pipe, with two bros twisted carbon fiber pipe. All of the aftermarket exhaust systems are anywhere between $800 & $1000, that's 2 steep for me. I have a buddy in northern MN that works in a custom streetrod shop and has all the tools to do the job. Took complete exhaust system off( 1 piece from header to tailpipe) cut off the exhaust at back of header, before catylitic converter and had my by make a 4 into 1 collector and used jetcoat to coat the entire exhaust except the tailpipe. Have been riding it the last couple of weeks and boy what a difference. Plus alot louder, which it was totally quiet before, now I like the sound so much, I think I am going to get in trouble(like being on the pipe alot(exhaust)). It can do the twistys and also tour with the goldwings. Has hard bags to attach and also tank bag & tailbag. It is a great bike.:D Saam 09-19-2006, 09:27 AM I posted these pics up on the "Racks" discussion, but here they are again. Did you get the frame sized for your body size? This is my first bike that I bought that was fitted to me. What a difference in comfort. Mt bikes and newer road frames use compact frame geometry to keep frame weights low and to improve clearance whenstraddling the frame.ah ok. My Trek is only two model years old and definitely not in the same class of bikes as those. Then again, I am not a hard-core biker, but do like to kick up some sand/dirt. :D triboyrob 01-29-2007, 10:46 AM Those seats look like thay are sitting pretty high, especially the off-road bike (orange). Did you get the frame sized for your body size? I'm about 5' 10" with a 31 1/2 inseam. The Superlight (the orange bike) is a medium frame which equates to about a 17" frame. The P2C is a 51 cm. Frame sizing is not as straight forward as saying a person of x height should ride x size frame. When sizing a bike you need to also take the top tube length into account because some people have long legs and short torso or maybe a long torso and short legs. Unless you are having a bike custom made you end up picking the closest frame size the company offers and making it fit by adjusting the seat height, stem length, seat position, crank arm length or a combination of all. Other considerations have to do with what will you be doing with the bike? If you are racing it and speed is all you care about you will have an aggressive set up that might not be extremely comfortable to ride but allows for better power output. I'm sure that is more than you were looking for but I wanted to give you a some what expanded explanation. As for the getting fit question the answer is yes. I've been racing bikes in some form for a bit over 14 years at this point and all of the bikes I've had for the last 10 years have been fitted professionally. If the bike you have now feels comfortable when you ride it, isn't causing you any knee pain and it is serving your needs I wouldn't worry much about it. shadow1 01-29-2007, 01:43 PM I also have a medium sized Santa Cruz Superlight (plus 4 other bikes). I prefer my top tube lengths (parallel to the ground) to be 23" or so. I have been a mt biker for many years. I pretty much can buy a frame online from the geometry specs and know if it fits me or not. A lot of novice riders still size frames from the old school way - you stand over the frame. If there is an inch of crotch clearance then "it fits." Unfortunately it is a LOT more complicated than that..... triboyrob 01-29-2007, 01:56 PM A lot of novice riders still size frames from the old school way - you stand over the frame. Very true...on top of that a lot of those "novice riders" are working in bike shops fitting the bikes they sell that same way. I wonder if that was Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Crits were not my specialty. I favored hilly courses. I think the most interesting thing that happened in cycleing and endurence sports in general was the approach to training. The heart rate monitor changed everything. I could always climb well and I could hold my own in a sprint but time trialing was my weakness. Once I got the monitor you could be very specific. Intervals made a whole lot more sense. shovelhd 11-05-2007, 10:47 AM I was exactly the opposite, a sprinter who couldn't climb worth a damn. A couple of years ago I got my dream bike; a Litespeed Tuscany and I really enjoy it. Attached is a pic from this last summer's BRAG ride. It's memorable to me because the photographer was at the bottom of a long down hill and I recall my cyclometer reading 42 when I went past. A- T A L L A K.no (http://www.TALLAK.no) whizzif 10-14-2008, 07:16 PM I have a SCOTT RANSOM with a thru axle front and got the bed extender -- haven't tried to lay the bike in the back (just got the truck then had to go out of town on business...) -- I'm pretty sure that will work for one bike but I was wondering if anyone had any pics/setup suggestions for a thru axle. I don't want to take the front wheel off...do you just use tie downs and some bar end holders like tying down a motorcycle or is there some other sweet setup. I dont' want a roof rack as that takes even more gas and I'll have clearance issues and forget to take the bike off...haha. Let me know what you guys have and let me see some more mtb pics!! I also have a nice Thule hitch rack on my gf's Honda FIT...but I'd rather not have a hitch mount rack for the Ridge -- Not too mention my 08 RTL didn't come with the standard hitch that they are putting on the 09's......that and the fact that the Ridge didn't come with an aux input jack....that's my only complaint so far -- but love this truck. Definitely a great vehicle....I just wish I could get an aux input jack..that's a little cheap for Honda...My gf's FIT has it but not their top of the line 30K truck? what gives.hahaha...oh well. XM is nice. speedlever 10-14-2008, 09:02 PM I got into bicycles a little over a year ago. Here's my first road bike (in 40+ years!.. counting my old Schwinn Collegiate 5-spd as a road bike) 2006 Trek Pilot 5.2 with full Ultegra gruppo (triple) http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/8053/img3229rs4.th.jpg (http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img3229rs4.jpg) It was totaled at the end of July/08 when an oncoming car turned left right in front of me and I T-boned the car. I escaped injury other than a scrape on my right elbow where I glanced off the car. The bike had a broken fork up in the headtube... which basically totaled the bike as it also compromised the frame (full carbon). I replaced it with this: 2008 Trek Madone 5.5 with a Dura-ace/Sram combo (compact double) http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/7259/small01fc6.th.jpg (http://img522.imageshack.us/my.php?image=small01fc6.jpg) Right now I'm riding about 4000 miles a year and would like to pick up the pace... weather and schedules permitting. I've dropped weight (~18 lbs), have seen a major drop in cholesterol (30+ points) and triglycerides (over 100 pts), etc. Resting HR runs about 60 now, BP down a few points. It's amazing what a bit of exercise can do. I was shocked when the blood work came back from my last physical. (so was the doc). When my last truck was totaled a few weeks ago, I had to have another truck.. if for no other reason but to haul my bike around! Had motorcycles too, but no more. My last one was a Honda - 1986 VF700C. Loved it... loved it. Wife hated it... hated it. When I had a serious accident on it, my motorcycle riding days were all over as I valued the marriage more than the motorcycle. But I missed that bike for years afterward. sniff.
