nevadagarth 01-11-2006, 04:49 PM I just purchased a full size spare and when I pulled out the pre-formed foam holder for the jack, I noticed a pre-formed spot with out a tool. My first thought was, am I missing a tool? Then I thought maybe this was a spot to place a tool for the roof rack if there is one.
For those of you with the Honda roof rack, is there a tool that comes with it to adjust the bar spacing or for removal that fits into the pre-formed foam tool holder that is inside the spare tire?
If not, does everyone else have all the "spaces" filled in the pre-formed foam tool holder? I will be stopping at the dealer today or tomorrow to hopefully pick up a couple of "goodies" and will inquire then, but I wanted to be informed before I go in.
Lastly, for those of you with the full size spare, have you come up with an ingenious method of storing the foam tool holder so that it is out of sight and not mounted to the ledge on the right side of the trunk, or under the rear seat, or placed in the in-bed cargo net? I need to keep the trunk as empty as possible in order to hold a child's stroller and bags from shopping.
I was thinking of trying to modify the foam holder (cut to size) so it will fit under the rim of the full size spare. I will look more closely at it tonight.

There is no tool included with the Roof Rack to loosen the nut. In theory you could do it by hand I use a stubby screw driver.
Under the rim is a great idea. Another option might be to engineer a some way to strap to to the trunk lid.
BTW - What size stroller are you talking about??? Umbrella or Graco Urban Assult style?

I thought about under the lid also. I may do that when the wee one no longer needs a stroller. Of course I will probably have moved on to a Hybrid Ridgeline by then (hint, hint, Honda). Or since I won't need a diaper bag then either, I could put it under the rear seat.
The stroller is a cross between an umbrella and an Urban Assault style. It is a Peg Perego Aria. It is lightweight, very manueverable, fairly compact when folded, but not as compact as an umbrella stroller.
I think I may end up storing the foam holder in my garage and wrap the tools in bubble wrap (or something similar) and strap them under the rim. I don't know, I am still thinking. I may wander the aisles of Home Depot to see if anything inspires me.:D Maybe I could wedge the tools into the openings of the lid and just strap the jack under the rim.

I dont' know if it's the spot you're talking about, but there is a spot for the "key" if you have the locking lug nuts.

Thanks swampler. I have that spot filled with the key for the locking lug nuts. This piece appears to be L-shaped. If you look in the owner's manual on page 271, the piece I am missing is on the far right hand side of the foam holder.
My "goodies" did not come in to the dealership today. They said they will be in tomorrow, so I will check with them then.
CUinaRidge 01-11-2006, 10:58 PM I have noticed the empty spot (not sure what it is for??) But my trailer hitch pin fits in there nicely!!
:)

I haven't checked my RL, but my Accord came with a tool to manually close the sunroof, and it was included in the trunk with the tire tools.

I thought about that also. Perhaps that is what it is for. I also thought maybe it was for a tool for the bed extender.
Anyways, I think I am going to super glue or screw in some velcro straps that will hold all the tools to the under side of the trunk lid and strap the actual jack to the inside of the full size rim.
mayfielh 01-12-2006, 10:44 AM Can you mount the spare upside down? If you could then the rim would become an excellent storage spot.
I was thinking you could get something like what carpenters use for their chisles to store your jack tools. The pouch has compartments in it then rolls up and gets tied off.
Also I keep a 2nd jack in the truck. Just a little Craftsman 4 ton (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=00950281000) jack. It stores nicely in a small box that would easily fit in the rim.

Thanks for the advise. I tried flipping the tire. There is a small hump in the middle of the tray that holds the spare tire. When the full size tire is upside down, there is not enough room to slide the tray and tire back in place.:(

I think this is what the "empty" spot is for. I checked with another Ridgeline on the lot and the same spot was empty. Since I am probably going to go with a Hidden Hitch, I hope the hitch pin fits. Actually that doesn't matter since I won't be using the foam holder.
By the way, my "goodies" came in. I now have Special Edition badges on the Ridgeline. What makes it special you may ask. I just feel special when I am driving it and that is good enough for me.:p ;)

No tool needed for the Bed Extender....
I would check out the RL's at the dealership.....Check models with and w/o the sun roof....
The search continues.....
