iPod kit

Dear Honda,

I recently installed the new iPod kit in my Ridgeline. This unit is just plain bad.

1. No titles only a few numbers that mean little or nothing when you are trying to access several hundred songs. The iPod screen is rendered useless by your system. The built in controls of the iPod are turned off as well. How are we supposed to know what is playing or how to make a selection when all you have are numbers on the head unit?
2. Controls are vague and don't work very well. The text to speech function is cumbersome. The unit runs through the entire alphabet and most of the time it ignores your command to stop at a particular letter. You cannot fast forward or reverse a song in play.
3. Unit turns on an attached iPod, but does not turn it off when the truck is turned off. Yes, this is a problem when travelling. It is very easy to forget to unplug the iPod every time you get out of the truck. Come back to your vehicle and you have a dead iPod.
4. My iPod has been left stuck in disk mode locking up the iPod completely. Fortunately I have been able to reset the iPod after connecting it to my computer and then doing a reset.
5. The instruction pamphlet needs to be written again. It does not explain how to use the unit as it is currently configured.
I suggest you immediately remove this product from the market and do more research.

In a few words "I WANT MY MONEY BACK" I am tired of having to do market research for companies at my expense!

Here's (http://www.nuxx.net/hondamusiclink.html) another users (Civic) write up of his experiences with the Music Link. Very informative.

drdk - I followed your lead and faxed Honda the following:

Dear Honda,

I am writing to express my abject disappointment with your new Honda Music Link product. I have recently purchased and installed this device on my Honda Ridgeline RTL w/Nav and feel compelled to provide you feedback. When the prospect of an iPod integration solution was announced I believe that it was rightly anticipated by owners that this would be something special - after all, it was a selling point that Honda and Apple had collaberated on the product. In reality your product is, frankly, dismal, especially when measured against other 3rd party products such as the Harman/Kardon Drive + Play which retails for only $20 more than Music Link - http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/driveplay.ars - I can only guess at some of the decisions that went into the design of Music Link, but the exclusion of any kind of navigation/menu display, and instead reliance on the text-to-speech functions is in my opinion a major mistake. I'm guessing that the reasoning was one of safety (no need to take your eyes off the road), and a "one size fits all" approach (some Honda models possibly have no display capability on their audio units), but when you think that some iPods are capable of storing thousands of tracks, the lack of a display is a stunning mistake no matter how noble your intent was. The Honda owners forums are already cataloging members total displeasure with this system and I have yet to see anyone recommending the purchase of Music Link, in fact the opposite is happening - would be buyers are being positively discouraged from buying Music Link.

Here's hoping you have something more worthy of both the Honda and Apple brands in the pipeline.

I agree. The Honda music Link is a piece of junk. I just had one installed in my new Ridgeline and from the beginning I've been terribly disappointed. I too am disappointed that Honda went with a text to voice system. Wish I had checked into it first. What are people using for a direct connect solution? I have an RTL with XMS radio but no navigation. Will Drive + Play let me retain my XMS radio?

Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
jgeleney

does anyone know how to install the aux port to a non RL navi? Since the imusic is really bad, i would like to install the aux port as seen on an RL with navi to use to connect my ipod. Also, does anyone have the part number or parts used to connect the component to the headunit?

Dear Honda, Today I told person #6 who asked me why Im using an FM mod. adapter in my truck. Thats 1200$ in sales you're out of, not counting the one I probably would have bought in the first place. wtf
