How to use auxillary input

I have had my RTL for about two weeks now, and tried today to use my IPOD with the auxillary input. The radio acknowledged that something was attached, but there was no sound. What am I doing wrong? I have a connector that has the male end of headphone jacks on both ends.

Sounds like you got the right connector.
I think the correct setting is the aux/cd selection, and be sure that both the Ridge stereo and the iPod are on then play your pod as usual. Be sure your volume is up loud enough on both.
My son plays his from the back seat - 10 foot Radio Shack cable...I have veto authority.

Outhouse, I have the same problem with my Ridge. The only way that I can get the truck to recognize the IPOD is to slightly remove the cable from the AUX port and reinsert (with the IPOD on). The NAV display then shows EXTENSION and plays normally. Something else that I found was that you have to turn the volume on the IPOD to max (make sure that the truck volume is 20 or less or you will get blasted) to get the full sound in the truck. I bought a Monster cable and mine works just fine. It's a long cable so that fools in the back seat can choose songs if they want. I don't need no stinkin crappy Honda box (for the IPOD) that doesn't work worth a crap :D

Echoing the earlier posts...fool with the volume controls a bit. I turned my Ridge volume way down, then turned my iPod volume way up and then controlled the volume via my steering wheel volume. Like everything that seems to involve the Ridge - iPod relationship, its a little kloogey. But once you get the settings right, I'm pretty pleased with the sound quality I'm getting via that simple five dollar cable connected to the AUX port. I just wish the port was part of the central array of controls instead of tucked back in the storage area. Wonder why they did that. Honda seems to have a reason for every little design nuance, so I guess there is a reason for that as well.

I was flummoxed for a while myself. Then I discovered, as others have pointed out, that you need to have the volume pretty much all the way up on the iPOD for it to play right.

It's like this in any car that uses the headphone-output of any auxillary device into an audio-only input. Don't blame the Ridgeline or its stereo - it does exactly what it is supposed to do with what it's being fed. The only option to get around using the Ipod's volume is to buy a dock-port connector that has a line-out jack on it (Monster makes one.) But then people will be complaining because it's not loud enough (the line-out is set at the device's volume mid-point, and you'll have to turn up the stereo to get the volume you want.)
