That may make bubbles. I like bubbles. :D
farmguy 01-18-2006, 07:20 PM Cool!
Mine haven't gotten (*) too bad, but I have noticed that some of the dirty corners were a bit stubborn. Hadn't really tackled that one yet, but now I know how! (No bubbling fumes or green gases?... should I wear my chemical grade respirator? :D )
(*) I know 'gotten' isn't really a word, but nothing else works!

Not from the solution. No promises if you eat Taco Bell before cleaning the mats.
winters ridge 01-20-2006, 09:18 AM i would be very careful puting two household cleaners together.
I am not 100% sure but i think some comet has bleach in it and alot of windex has ammonia in it.
if you mix the wrong ones you get a very toxic gas called chlorine gas which is deadly.
I don't doubt that your mixture is compatable but there are definately more than one flavor of comet and windex.
winters ridge 01-20-2006, 09:23 AM another thought is
Wesley's Bleach white
its for tires but i have not seen anything it did not remove yet.
just make sure you remove them from the truck first.
msmith1965 02-07-2006, 09:05 AM IMHO, I would not recommend this solution very often, only when no other solution will work. Windex and Comet contain degreasing agents. Over time, these agents will dry out the floormats (a petroleum-based product). In addition, I suspect it could also result in a fading of the color, both from the degreasing and also from the abrasive components in the Comet.
I've seen automotive paint completely destroyed over time from using laundry detergent, window cleaners, etc. It removes the oil from the paint.
As an alternative, you might also try Murphy's Oil Soap with hot water and a scrub brush. Muphy's is vegetable oil based. After cleaning, use a high-quality vinyl protectant. For tar and similar issues, you might also try a tar and bug remover safe for painted finishes.
Also, another product that is good on stubborn vinyl stains, believe it or not, is a clear coat cleaner (not compound) such as Mequires Paint Cleaner.
RidgeLI 02-07-2006, 10:50 AM The best cleaner is Simple Green.
It lifts dirt and will not damage the mats. I use it to clean the bed of the truck and the tires/rims too. It is also an excellent cleaner for outdoor furniture, the grill etc. Non-toxic and won't harm anything you clean with it. You can use it full strength or dilute it.
I usually buy a gallon at Home Depot for $8 and an empty spray bottle for $3, fill the spray bottle half-way and water the rest.
Try it, you'll like it.....

Just a warning-straight SG or even 1:1 is very strong and can damage surfaces. I don't care how *green* it is-it's some nasty stuff. And I would definitely reconsider spraying it on rims-they're just paint, and you probably wouldn't spray it on the hood, would you? They don't' list straight up rubber on the dilution chart, but for vinyl floors, they recommend 50:1 if that tells you anything.
I happen to like Charlie's Soap APC at 10:1. And their laundry detergent is great for mf towels.

Sounds like my sister-in-law.
She mixed Lime-away, Comet and Bleach together in the shower for cleaning which created a gas worthy of the San Quintin gas chamber.
She passed out and almost died.
Be sure you are outdoors or have good ventilation when mixing household cleaning products.
Even storing some of these products together in the same area is not good.
Edit:
........mayfielh - Not knocking your idea/solution, sounds like it works well and I'm sure it is done outdoors. Going to try it, my rubber mats are getting a little  looking.
mayfielh 02-07-2006, 01:04 PM You might consider a 2 stage approach mix the comet with water to make a paste then rub it on the tough spots. Hose it off with water then apply the windex surface cleaner to the whole mat to clean off any additional grime..
And yes do this outside or at least somewhere with adequate ventilation.
Dumped the rubber mats in favor of the carpet mats with the neat Ridgeline metal logo.... :D
Gretchen 02-08-2006, 10:52 AM On my CR-V mats (haven't tried it on the RL yet), I just use car wash. After they dry, I use a tire cleaner spray. They look great - just a little slippery! :D
