: Rattle in the dash found....
kanji 01-20-2006, 07:03 PM Recently i've been driving my RL and noticed a faint rattle somewhere in the dash. Couldn't figure it out, it comes and go's so, I couldn't really look for it. Thought it was something in the glove that is rattleing. anyways, took the RL to the dealer to have them look at it and hopefully (try) fix the locking problem. They found the rattle and ordered the part to have it fix. Picked up the RL this morning, only took them 1 hour to fix, but couldn't fix the Loocking mech problem. they said it was the right front speaker cover on the dash. All fixed, no rattles even when i took the back road to my house, basically bumpy roads mix with dirt road and asphalt. Its fixed. here's the part number.
Part#: 77132-SJC-A01ZA
There you all go, this may fix your problem, it sure fix my phantom rattle somewhere in the dash.:)

Got it! Thanks for the P/N Kanji
MWJohnson 01-21-2006, 01:12 AM Same issue here.
They took about 45 minutes to repair and I took 30 minutes on light four wheel drive territory trying to get the noise to happen again. I was without success.
Fix worked well.
MontanaFred 01-21-2006, 05:20 AM This is slightly off topic but I once found a mouse nest on top of my engine block in my Dakota.
Gretchen 01-21-2006, 08:04 AM I have this rattle. Thank you for posting this! :)
I too experienced, on occasion, a rattle I couldn't locate (on bumpy roads). I noticed that when I took my sunglases out of the holder above the mirror that the rattle stopped.
Another way I've found to stop rattles is to turn up the stereo. :)
RidgeOwner3 01-22-2006, 08:31 AM I was going to make this post over on the Creaky Steering Wheel thread, but have you seen how many posts there are over there? I don't think it would ever be seen.
For the longest time I thought I had the Creaky Steering Wheel. Even tried the dbb patented push and pull method. To no avail. Last night I discovered that the creaky noise, very slight when driving on bumpy highway, was actually coming from the DRIVER'S side dash speaker. Well, I'm glad because this should be an easy fix with tape and I now know that my steering wheel DOES NOT CREAK! WOOOHOOO!
grunkster 02-17-2006, 07:34 AM So what is the part?? I have a rattle somewhere over on the passenger side coming and going also...THANKS
BillB 02-17-2006, 09:59 AM Will the forum members who feel it necessary to belittle others problems with the response "turn your stereo up" please cease and desist. I am happy you do not have anything that bothers you, but your comments are not constructive and not appreciated.

That's funny, because I didn't take that as belittling. I thought it was a joke and not to be taken seriously. My first clue was the smiley face behind the comment. A sense of humor is one of the things I love about this community. I don't know the poster of the comment that offended you, but I think you took his comment a little too seriously.
tedridge 02-17-2006, 10:21 AM ...your comments are not constructive and not appreciated.
Hey BillB, I think the turn the radio up comment was made in jest. Chill out there in NYC!
cdepuydt 02-17-2006, 11:02 AM (Legal Disclosure.....This is in jest.....please do not consider this a serious post) BillB....I think you need to switch to decaf. coffee! :D
I have a minor rattle coming from, what I think, is the glove box area. I have not been able to pin it down. I open up the glove box and it stops. I have emptied out the glove box and it still rattles. Maybe I will have to check out the speaker cover. Maybe it's one of those sounds that sounds like it is coming from one place, but is actually coming from another.
RidgeOwner3 02-17-2006, 11:13 AM I put some electrical tape on two sides of the driver's side dash speaker and popped it back in. (When you pop it out, looks like the tweeter is connected to the cover, so don't try to pull it off, just let it lay where it is.)
NO MORE NOISES! And now I CAN turn up the stereo without wondering what that faint vibration noise is!

BillB 02-17-2006, 11:20 AM In jest is said once or twice. I have seen the comment dozens of times in this forum, so I guess being original is not important to these comedians.

This location is definitely one source of numerous rattles, that plagues the passenger side. Easy to detect. Just tap the driver's side forward (windshield) speaker, then tap the passenger's. You'll notice a difference. I popped the passenger's speaker out and examined the four insert tabs (two forward non-locking, two aft locking). It appears (to me) that the tolerances for the two forward tabs are not tight enough. I took some tape, trimmed two small strips, and added then to the thickness of the forward two insert tabs. I popped the speaker assembly back in, and no more rattle. Now, onto the moonroof (passenger side).....:o
allhans 08-12-2006, 07:54 PM This forum is great. I will try this tomorrow. :D

One day I discovered a loud rattle on the passenger's side and figured it was this speaker cover issue. Then I listened closely and it seemed to be coming from the glove box area. I opened the box and it went away. I closed it and it came back. I opened it and made sure there was nothing in the box that was rattling against any of the hard surfaces. Everything was padded or wedged in. Closed, noise, open, no noise. This went on for several minutes while we were driving and then it simply stopped. It hasn't happened since and I have no idea what made the rattle.
NKyRidge 08-12-2006, 09:37 PM Is there a TSB for a ghost rattle?
well, my RL has rattled from the day I picked mine up 3.1.06 - the very first bump, not even off the lot . i was so deflated . rattles already. (pass corner speaker area)
Well, tomororw I'm going after that damn thing -
silence is golden!
allhans 08-14-2006, 03:13 PM The passenger side dash speaker fix worked !!!
Quiet
:D :D :D :D
allhans 08-14-2006, 03:19 PM :) Continuation from previous post.....
Silence from the dash !!
blueridge33 08-14-2006, 05:20 PM I have an on and off rattle coming from the dash, but it's not speakers. (I already fixed the dash speakers with a little foam tape)
Seems like when I press on the center console at the seat heater switches it stops.
If I figure it out, or anyone else does, let us know.
FESTERF 02-06-2010, 11:29 AM My just started doing the samething, and after pulling the glove box apart and finding the glove box shock absorber arm is loose I took it apart and found a thin washer and put on the glove box side of the arm. And that silenced that rattle. It snugged the arm up just enough to stop that major rattle. Now got to figure out the rattle coming from the passenger side tweeter. ;act028:;act028:
eddiechip 02-12-2010, 07:00 AM Are there any pictures of both the tweeter fix and glove box arm washer?
xd9x19 02-26-2010, 10:37 AM I've lived with a couple of rattles in my Ridgeline now for some time. I think both my front speaker covers rattle. If I put my hand on the driver side one, it goes away, so I'm going to try to put some foam weatherizing tape or something on it this weekend and see if that fixes it. Time for the procrastination to stop!! I plan to fix this issue tomorrow ( :D ), since it's Saturday.

This has been an often discussed and posted topic. You can use the search function to see other posts with pics included. Be prepared for a large of volume of hits.
dzorn21 03-01-2010, 06:29 AM Fixed my passenger tweeter rattle this weekend. Nice an quiet for once!! YEAH!! I did it similar to other posters with the electrical tape just did it on the tweeter grill, not the dash. Put a peice of tape around all 4 clips on the tweeter grill, then put one layer of electrical tape on the entire flat bottom of the grill and around the sides of the tweeter. Little tighter fit but drove down some bumpy roads all weekend and not a single squeak. Now I feel like I'm driving a Acura Ridgeline :)
xd9x19 03-01-2010, 07:31 AM Fixed mine this weekend, also. Instead of electrical tape, I used some narrow (about 1/4") foam insulation that you get to insulate door or window gaps. Had it sitting around and so I just popped off the tweeter covers and cut some small strips and stuck 3 strips around the edges of the speaker cut-out and popped the covers back on. No rattles!!! :cheerleader:
Why I didn't do this 2 or 3 years ago, I don't know.
FESTERF 03-20-2010, 09:06 AM Just an update Finally took some pics of the fix for the shock absorber. In the last few weeks had another glove box rattle sending pics for that as well. there a panel next to the glove box just to the right by the door. Gently pull the the panel off. Theres a screw and a washer behind it. Tighten it when it's loose just a little bit the washer rattles, and it's anoying.

FesterF, you do get around! This is the third thread you've posted with your solution with pics!
Way to go!!:act035:
FESTERF 03-20-2010, 09:19 AM Just wanted everyone to know. I do know how annoying as hell it is to have unnessary rattles. Plus I've gotten some good tips from this site to fix my problems with my ridgeline and apperiate it.
