Anyone have any issues with roll up style tonneau cover that are not vinyl covered.
A friend has one and when we get freezing rain he cant open his cover as each joint is frozen?
For the covers list are any of them covered? Or are they open aluminum?

Welcome aboard AAFD! I have the Retrax cover. The cover is made out of Lexan. The side rails are aluminum. So far I have not had any problems at all with having it freeze to the point that it can't be opened. However, I can see where it could happen if there was a lot of very wet or melted snow on the cover that re-froze after finding it's way into the side rails where the rollers run. It would have to be the right set of circumstances which, so far, I have not seen. To one extent or another, I think that any cover would have the same or at least similar freeze-up issues under similar circumstances. I have never had the tailgate freeze to the Retrax cover although I believe that one or more members have reported that they had it happen. The also discussed solutions for it. If you search "Retrax" or "Tonneau" or "Bed Cover", and poke around in the accessories and exterior forums you will find a lot of very good information about a lot of good covers to choose from. I can only speak about my experience with the Retrax cover which I continue to be very happy with for my purposes.
