BannedUser 02-16-2006, 12:20 PM My daughter just called me and her cat is in labor... or at least they think she is...
She is pregnant and has been screaming all day. My daughter says the Momma's body is contracting and her caboose keeps opening and closing.
Can anyone give us some advice??
I have helped pups, not kitties....and I can't get there until 4:30
ridged 02-16-2006, 12:24 PM What makes you think that help is needed?
UglyTruckling 02-16-2006, 12:26 PM Sometimes kittens get stuck on the way out -- bad for the Mom and the kittens. I'd call a vet's office and ask what's normal.

My daughter has never done this and neither have I. She is freakin out....

She did....they want her to bring her in...sounds like they are looking for money..cats have been have cats for 1,000's of years..lol
I just wondered what advice I could get from cat lovers out there.

I don't think that human intervention is automatically necessary unless the mother is having difficulties. Animals, and humans, frequently bear their young with no assistance. :)

Ooops, that leaves me out! I like cats only because they make nice moving targets on the firing range. :D
I'm kiddin'!! :)

You're in trouble buddy....
UglyTruckling 02-16-2006, 12:42 PM I saw something on the Internet that says there's trouble if the cat's had contractions for more than four hours and no kitten has appeared -- LR, see your PM?
dan-D-man 02-16-2006, 12:53 PM I delivered 7 cocker spaniel puppies once because the mother wouldn't do anything. I actually cut the umbilical cords with sterilyzed sissors and one even came out breach and I had to cut her out of the sack. Messy job and I needed to go bowling that night.

Thanks UT...that has a lot of info. :)
mayfielh 02-16-2006, 12:56 PM I needed to go bowling that night.

So does this make you a grandma?
I was thinking something else but I just couldn't bring myself to type it.
Kellcut 02-16-2006, 02:55 PM Good luck to momma cat and baby cats.
Eaglesno1 02-16-2006, 03:49 PM Would it be proper to say this we need pics:)
BannedUser 02-16-2006, 09:01 PM Thanks everyone.
Mother and "BABY" are doing fine. Yes..baby..one, uno..singular.
Yes..it's her first litter and I think you are right northernlights, she was searching for a hiding place. My daughter had beds all over the house for her....even Gramma bought one..( that's me to the Momma cat ) and she chose to go under the dresser in their bedroom...
They waited for more babies and none came. Momma is eating, drinking, walking around and going potty...she's great.
And no mayfielh, I'm not Grandma..I'm Great Grammy to the new arrival...:D Man is that kitten ever cute. Black with a brown spot on it's head, a white streak down it's nose and 4 white booties. OMG:p
We didn't take pictures today because we were afraid to disturb Momma kitty. Nikki ( Momma ) is a very small, delicate cat...we didn't want her upset.
I'll take pictures Saturday and post them.
Thanks again all you Auntie and Uncle ROC heads!! :D

T Mac 02-16-2006, 09:48 PM First, glad everyone is okay.
Second, glad I adopted a BOY kitty. :)
Third, is it rare to only give birth to one for a dog or cat? I thought a litter was more than one - but I'm new to this cat ownership thing too.

Webwader 02-19-2006, 10:10 AM Very cute kitten and mom, JC.
Kellcut 02-19-2006, 10:36 AM Very cute pics :)
Thanks for sharing!
Truckin' 02-19-2006, 12:12 PM I love kittens! I used to let my manx have babies, but I quit many years ago because of the problem with overpopulation of cats and dogs. I sure had fun during the time I had the babies though. I always found good homes for them, but you never really know how responsible the new owners will be.
Since this is a single baby, is your daughter going to keep him?

I was suppose to get pick of the litter but since there is only one....she say's "sorry Mom..Phil is soooooo cute." :(
