I wanted to see if any Georgia (and/or surrounding states) members wanted to get together and plan an offroad day at the Rocky Flats ORV Trail (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=forest+service+road,+Crandall,+GA+30711&ll=34.867835,-84.725018&spn=0.034295,0.079737&t=h)?

Rocky Flats ORV Trail - 5 miles
Suitable for Four-wheel drive vehicles.

Description: This trail offers a challenging and safe riding experience with many sharp curves. It follows a multi-purpose woods road over piney rides and through hollows of oak and yellow poplar forest. View timber stands in various states of development. Openings in the forest canopy offer vistas of Grassy Mountain.

Ranger District: Armuchee-Cohutta Ranger District, Chatsworth - (706) 695-6736 - Open Mon - Fri / 8 am - 4:30 pm

Directions: Take US 411 north from Chatsworth about 6 miles. Turn right on Grassy Street and proceed across the railroad tracks to the T-intersection. Turn right, go about 300 feet and turn left onto Forest Service Road 630. Travel about 4 miles to the second Rocky Flats Road sign and turn right. Limited parking is available across the creek.

Another option for the first, additional, or subsequent drive would be Tatum Lead ORV Trail (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Peeples+Lake+Road,+Chatsworth,+GA&ll=34.735617,-84.690857&spn=0.03435,0.079737&t=h). In fact, the two places are close enough to do both in one day if time permits.

Tatum Lead ORV Trail - 7 miles
Suitable for hiking, mountain bicycles and four-wheel drive vehicles.

Description: The trail follows an old woods road along the ridge line of Tatum Mountain throughout dense forest. The trail dead ends to the south at a mound of direct on the government property boundary. However, four-wheel drive vehicles must enter off GA 52 about 0.8 mile east of the Cohutta Lodge on Fort Mountain. Note: After turning off GA 52, the first 2 miles of road is a right-of-way across private land. Only licensed vehicles with tags are permitted on the first 2.7 miles of road which is a public Right-of-Way across private land. Trail ends at private property.

Ranger District: Armuchee-Cohutta Ranger District, Chatsworth - (706) 695-6736 - Open Mon - Fri / 8 am - 4:30 pm

Directions: Take GA 52 east from Chatsworth about 1 mile. Turn right onto the Old Federal Road and go 4 miles. Turn left at the Peeples Lake/Rock Creek Trail directional sign onto Forest Service Road 3 and travel 5.9 miles to the trailhead parking lot.

Have you driven on any of these? I have done the motorcycle/ATV trails in the past but not the 4WD trails. I'm in if the trails are in good shape.

Nope, never been to either. I would be willing to recon next weekend and see what the conditions are like. I am all about dry (semi anyway) myself.

Cool, glad to see some interest. I hope we can net a few more before it comes up. I am thinking it will be a couple of weeks until it will pan out anyway.

It ought to make for a few "Kodak Moments" anyway :) Looking forward to some pics/movies of a Ridgeline only convoy!

Hi Schulty!

If you wounldn't mind a suggestion? Meanmachine19 gave me the same advice when I was organizing our meet and greet. Set a time about a month in advice and you will get better results. He was correct! :)
