Best Decal Residue Cleaner (IMHO)

A washing/waxing/detailing thread? Hey, now THAT'S something with which I have some experience...having spent many years in search of the best products for my motorcycles and cars. So, I'll weigh in with a few products that I've had great success with...and won't use anything else.

For years, I used 'Bug & Tar Remover' to remove the sticky residue left after decal removal. This stuff is pretty harsh, though, and melts some plastics. Uck, not good. WD-40 actually works pretty well, but is not a good all-round cleaner (something that could be used on clothing, upholstery, etc).

I love Stoner Xenit (in the orange can). It's a terrific product, one which works equally well on vehicles, clothing, couches...whatever. I keep a can in both the house and the garage, since I use it on just about anything. 'Tis a great stain remover too.

Okay...that's my $.02 for now. :)

I don't remove decals often, but I have used "Goo Gone" with great results. After using Goo Gone, I would alsways have a puckety of water right there to rinse off the area, dry the area then apply some Zymol wax. (hey I put some wax info as well, hahaha)

I think Kiff was referring to sticky residue on painted surfaces.

I agree Goo Gone is amazing, it will get most anything like this off.

Another vote for GooGone and razor blade.

Only use the razor blade if you are a certified plastic surgion. anyone elsecan easily end up with a gouged surface. And no, I am not a plastic surgion and yes I have gouged surfaces in the past.

Just to clarify my original post....

As k757 said, I'm only recommending Stoner Xenit to remove the sticky residue left after you've removed the sticker. Goo Gone is good stuff too, but I use this Xenit stuff on a wide variety of stuff...stains on clothing, paint residue, sticky decal residue, etc. I think Goo Gone may be slightly harsher than this Xenit stuff.

I'm in the camp that NEVER uses a razor blade for decal removal. I always first heat the decal well with a hair dryer before peeling off as much as I can by hand. The remainder I just clean up with Xenit.
