CGM55123 03-19-2006, 09:32 PM Took my first extended ride in our 2006 Odysssey EX-L today. Now that is a PREMIUM sound system!!!! Totally impressed and satisfied!!! Could not turn the volume above 25 without rattling the windows. Outstanding job on that one Honda!!!
Now, as it relates to the Ridgeline "premium" system. There is simply no comparison as the RL system is not even close to being in the same league.
Dear Honda, please assign the Odyssey sound system engineer to the Ridgeline project for one week. You obviously already have the parts in the bins, let that person do for the RL what they have done for the Odyssey. We're paying for a premium system, please sell us one.
NC Blue 03-20-2006, 11:51 AM Just curious, how is the RL sound system supposed to be comparable to a EX-L sound system? My RTL and my wifes' Odyssey EX are similar in sound quality.
NKyRidge 03-20-2006, 12:15 PM What model of stereo is in the O - do you have the IVES system. Same as the RL model?
I think CGM is refering to the toring model which has a 360 watt/7 speaker/subwoofer system. Each speaker pumps out 50w.
top Ridgeline is only 160W with 25 w per speaker. I think standard ridgeline is 120 w.
CGM55123 03-20-2006, 05:26 PM My 06 Odyssey is an EX-L, not a touring model.
So your EX-L has the same sound system as the 360w touring model?
or are you saying the Odyssey EX-L with only 120W without subwoofer sounds better than your Ridgeline RTS model has 160 W with subwoofer?
WoodlandsRTL 03-21-2006, 09:42 AM if he doesn't, I will...
the stock stereo in my wife's '06 Ody EX-L was much clearer and fuller than what came in my RTL w/navi. Neither was awful, but both would benefit from upgrades. Mine's done (clean sweep, amp, speakers and sub), hers is in progress (speakers and amp).
note that I used past tense. Mine now sounds better than our home theater system. Next project?
CGM55123 03-21-2006, 09:55 AM I'm saying the stock 06 EX-L Odyssey system is much better than the stock 06 RTS RL system. No comparison IMO.

I'd like to check out your truck some time since I'm out in Sugar Land, and usually up in the Woodlands for church every other week.
Technically, the spec on the Ridgeline should be better. Maybe the odyssey just have much better speakers or the acoustic in the mini van is superior. Who knows?
So the 360w touring Odyssey must have incredile sound!
DatSumbch 03-21-2006, 05:53 PM I think the speaker location(s) and interior volume/space has more to do with the perception of the odyssey having a "better" sound system, especially the rear speakers.
WoodlandsRTL 03-21-2006, 08:14 PM the speakers that came out of the Ody were identical to those that came out of the RL.
I believe the RL RTL's rated power output is greater than the Ody EX-L's (wonder if all of the RL amp's extra power goes to the sub...).
my first guess is to attribute the perceived difference to interior dimensions and surfaces. front door and dash tweeter placement is pretty much the same, obviously the Ody's rears are much farther behind (and lower)...echoing DatSumbtch (love that name, btw)
another idea...maybe the RL's sub requires the bulk of the built-in EQ effects, and the Ody, without a sub, is flatter (unequallized) at the HU...any thoughts?
CGM55123 03-21-2006, 08:58 PM The EX-L tweeters are raised from the dash and pointed at the driver/passenger, that helps I'm sure.
Seems like the door speakers have a more favorable mounting angle that also may help.
The head unit seems to hold stations better with less interference/static.
I would guess that 75% of the "blanketed" sound of the RL system are what I would consider design/mounting issues.
