Well after reading all the posts on this forum regarding the self install of the back up camera I decided to give it a go. I can't add much to what Vertrkr and others have already posted so I won't go into much detail. I thought I would share a couple of little goofs I made in hopes of helping someone else to avoid them. If you are going to split up the job into 2 parts like I intended, start with the outside of the truck and do the inside second. I started in the inside and then realized after taking the rear seat out that you can not run the end of the camera harnass into the cab because you need to run it through the hole you drill in the tailgate first. That is probably very obvious to most but in my zeal to get going on the install I did not think it through. The other tip is for the reinstall of the back seat. Make sure that the center shoulder strap seatbelt is draped over the seat before reinstalling. I had the rear seat completely back in when I figured out that I forgot to do it so I had to take the whole seat out again. I estimate it took me around 8 hours over a couple of sessions with out removing the rear bumper to complete the job. It really is a pretty easy if you have the time to do it. I would rate the difficulty of the install a 2 on a scale of 1-10.

But using the same "scale," I would say a 10 in the "billable hours" category. Would you agree? I don't have eight hours a week to spare...but I could see how breaking it up in parts would help. GOOD JOB! And thanks for the tips...they WILL come in handy.

I'm almost done with my install job. I would rate it a 8 out of 10, there's a reason why the dealer charges $600.00 to install the thing, it's a major time consuming possess. And yes I forgot about the center seatbelt which is now sitting somewhere behind the rear seat:eek: . All I have left to do is find the seatbelt after removing the rear seat again and putting back on the rear bumper. The only problem I ran into was getting the taillight connectors disconnected. The one on the right side would not come apart no matter what I tried and the left was a major pain:mad: . The instructions are detailed enough but I did notice they have changed one of the brackets that you bolt on to hold the camera cable. The camera works great but would I do it again, probably not and I like working on stuff:o .

You guys are a lot braver than me. That is one difficult install job.

But the camera is a great accessory and just makes the truck that much safer (for others).
