I read recently Honda is considering the Variable Cylinder Management system used in the Odyssey for the 2007 RL. This seems like a good option for those of us who only need the pick-up bed for light hauling and would like improved fuel economy.
Does anyone have any insight on this rumor?

I heard it wasn't implemented in 2006 because of the engine size and weight of the RL. If they add it for 2007, then I would expect the engine to be a good bit bigger.

The Odyssey van weighs between 4300 and 4600 pounds , my neighbor tows a boat with his and never has a problem . Honda would just have to call an rl with variable cylinder management a light duty version with a tow limit of 3500 pounds, which seems like more than enough for quite a few of us rl owners .

the 06' Pilots have that as a option now......but only the 2WD models. I don't think you will see any RL's with it unless they come out with a 2WD model

I don't think the driveline mass of the VTM-4 system would allow the VCM to operate very often, hence Honda offering it only on the Odyssey and the 2WD Pilot. In the Pilot's case, it also lowers the towing capacity from 4500 lbs. to 3500 lbs. I'd be interested to see if Honda offers VCM (and if that means a 2WD Ridgeline along with a lower towing capacity) -- if for no other reason than to see what the current naysayers in the market would think if the truck were "dumbed down" in those aspects.

i don't think it's enough to make a difference

i don't think it's enough to make a differenceThat's what I read...I forgot to mention it until some brought up the Odyssey. Take it for what it's worth.

I sent an email to my dealer about the VCM a few weeks ago and this is the reply I got.
"This is Mike from Blair Honda. The VCM system is from Honda only. This system is only on the Odyssey and two wheel drive Pilots right now. I asked my Honda rep this same question about a week ago. I was told that
there is no way to add it to a exisiting engine, there will be no aftermarket system that can do this. I was also told that they have not figured a VCM system that works with something that is four wheel drive such as the Ridgeline. If they can figure out a way for the vehicle to
understand whether or not the vehicle is towing or hauling something then they could use it. If I hear anything else I'll drop you a line.
Thanks,
Mike"
