Escort 8500 freaking out?slh7d 04-20-2006, 03:43 PM Seems like sometimes when I put my Ridge into park, the detector start blasting the laser warning. Anyone else seen this? bigtars@hotmail.com 04-20-2006, 06:49 PM Something is wrong with your detector. No problems with mine. Set yours on city mode-automute.Don't use highway mode.See if that helps. arteegee 04-20-2006, 07:56 PM Seems like sometimes when I put my Ridge into park, the detector start blasting the laser warning. Anyone else seen this? Near a BBQ joint? Sounds like it smells pork.;) LATEOTT 04-21-2006, 02:06 AM Seems like sometimes when I put my Ridge into park, the detector start blasting the laser warning. Anyone else seen this? You don't by any chance have the radar backup sensors do you??? bigred1 04-21-2006, 06:44 AM Try a new detector.......borrow one and see if it does it also mugen1 04-21-2006, 08:21 AM I had a similar experience with a radar detector in my old Civic. It turned out to be my MSD ignition. What turns on when in park? The backup sensor as suggested by LATEOTT makes sense. You say sometimes, so how often and any particular location each time? Perhaps try the 8500 in another vehicle. outtaline 04-21-2006, 10:07 AM I have the Blinder Extreme Lazer Jammer and the Escort. Your problem is the detector as mine did the same thing on it's own , not only in the same vehicle. The Blinder never went off so it is not lazer One note. The Escort WILL do this if the voltage is out of limits!!! Throw a volt meter on the vehicle and see if it spikes when you shift to park. Do you by any chance have a laser parking spotter installed that alarms when you are spotted in the correct location in your garage??? slh7d 04-21-2006, 11:50 AM I'll try and pay more attention to when it actually happens. It doesnt happen often, but I know the places where it does happen don't have any cops with laser guns. I only have the radar detector, no other accessories, and no backup sensors. I was kind of guessing it had something to do with a power surge or something. I do have a rare-earth magnet thing stuck to the bottom so I can mount it easiily on my motorcycle RAM mount. Not sure if that is messing up the internals. Otherwise, seems to be working fine...just have those false laser warnings. If it becomes too annoying, might be a reason to get a new detector :) StickyC 05-11-2006, 06:20 PM FYI - Look in your 8500's manual, there's actually a voltage readout mode you can set by fiddling with the buttons on the top. If you cover the device with your hands, does the laser stop? That'd tell you if there's some internal light setting it off or if it's wiring. On my Lexus, the nav screen refresh sets off the 8500 if I point the detector at the screen... I'm looking to get a Ridgeline in the next few days, I'll post if my 8500 has the same issues. outtaline 05-12-2006, 04:49 PM Other "cheaper" detectors will set if off also... StickyC 05-24-2006, 03:28 PM I've had my Escort 8500 in the Ridgeline for 2 weeks now mounted just below the mirror and have had no falses that I couldn't account for. | |
