It all depends on what kind of riding you wanna do! Do you want to fly thru the air a throw it into a giant power slide throwing rocks all over your riding buddies then get a sport model. If you just want to cruz around relaxing on the trails and go exploring maybe a utility quad is better suited to your needs. Either way you will have a total blast just like when you were a kid! I guarantee it! You may wanna pm lgmendez. He's a "quad god" and my new riding partner! :p You are welcome to tag along with us this Sunday to see for yourself if you really like it or not. Ron JPA2002 04-21-2006, 07:01 PM Get a Honda of course! I have a 2005 Honda Foreman 500S 4x4. I do some work with it and also trail riding. Jon Outhouse 04-21-2006, 10:18 PM I have Polaris Sportsman 500 and it has been great. BUT, if I were buying today, I would be hardpressed not to buy a HONDA. lgmendez 04-21-2006, 10:23 PM It all depends on what kind of riding you wanna do! Ron Before I read the " quad god " line, I knew you were taking a stab at me. Nothing better than tapping the throttle and going into a giant power slide! Than again, doing donuts with the front wheels not even moving would leave anyone tickled. If your a beginner, I would stay away from the 450R. Maybe a 300 or 400? Any ???'s, let me know. 5S Dude 04-21-2006, 10:30 PM Before I read the " quad god " line, I knew you were taking a stab at me. See ya at the lakes this Sunday.:p RF4B Driver 04-22-2006, 04:00 AM Just got a new Honda Rincon. 680 cc, fuel injected and the smoothest transmission available. It's huge, and it fits in my Ridgeline. bonerfortuna 04-22-2006, 08:00 AM I just picked up a Bombadier Outlander 800, Im taking it to my place in North Carolina next week so I havent had more than a half hour in the seat yet. Barely fits in the Ridge so I use my GMC to haul it around. Outfitter 04-24-2006, 09:09 AM Mine is a Honda Rancher TRX 350 ES, Hers is a Recon TRX 250 ES and we use a Polar ATV trailer to haul stuff around the ranch. I didn't get a chance to check back in until just now and am real Sorry about it. I would have LOVED the opportunity to meet you both/ride a quad. At this point and time I'm not sure which one to get. I love camping and the util would be excellent for backcountry camping/hunting trips (i haven't been hunting since high school but might start again if i get the util). the sport looks like a blast and jumping dunes looks like it's a blast and would give me the opportunity to get away on a more regular basis to just ride around. i'm leaning towards the util quad because i'm more into camping/hunting/exploration but am taking my time deciding before i get one. I went to check out the Honda quads this weekend and liked them all. the one thing i wanted to know and forgot to find out is what the milage is like. What kind of things should I be looking for/thinking of when looking to buy one (sport or util)? Thanks Steve kneemow 04-24-2006, 11:29 AM Before I read the " quad god " line, I knew you were taking a stab at me. Nothing better than tapping the throttle and going into a giant power slide! Any ???'s, let me know. the 400's is what i was considering getting. prudence has taught me it's better to have and not need rather than need and not have. it's not that i couldn't grow into a 500 (if need be), but think the 400 should be plenty. even with me hauling gear on it. i think? spence2316 04-24-2006, 03:04 PM keep open minded alot of good models out i have a raptor 660 and a polaries 330 trailboss for the women. i like the raptor alot the polaries is ok but its a cheap bike and you can tell hard to start takes along time to warm up very cold blooded bike you need to go out a get the dirt wheel mag. very good talkes about the good and the bad of diff bikes but do one thing dont go brand searching their is alot of bikes that are over priced for what you get and others that are alot better and cheaper gadgetz 04-24-2006, 03:05 PM Hi Kneemow...I'm looking for a new quad as well. Are you going to the M&G on Sunday? If so, we should chat...we can (hopefully) get a good deal if both us bought one at the same time. I hear there are a couple good dealers in Orange County. Motoman 04-24-2006, 05:13 PM Have you looked at the side by sides? Yamaha has the Rhino and it is too cool. 660cc, long travel suspension, ect. I am between that and a quad. It would be cool to bring someone along when out exploring. JPA2002 04-24-2006, 06:13 PM I would highly suggest going to www.highlifter.com and joining their forum. There is some good reading on there and you can read through the various models to determine what is right for you. Honda reliability is hard to beat, and I do agree that other manufacturers are making some nice rides now. The Honda Foreman has to be one of the toughest around, so that is what I have. I have a 3000lb winch on mine, with lift kit, wheels and tires, GPS, etc. It is pretty much decked out. Check it out here: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jpa_abney/my_photos Later Jon gadgetz 04-24-2006, 06:17 PM Hi JPA2002~ Thank you, for the information and link. :D JPA2002 04-24-2006, 06:22 PM I can provide you with lots of other ATV information, so just let me know if you have questions. Here are a few links to some nice equipment. www.montanajacks.com - expensive, but real quality! www.hondaforeman.com www.highlifter.com www.atvparts.com www.warn.com The list could go on! Oh, make sure to chekc out the pics of my baby and let me know what you think. Also, you justify it to the wife by saying it is a tool to be used around the yard, push snow, etc.! I have a 60" Warn Cyclone snow plow on mine, and it rocks! Jon gadgetz 04-24-2006, 07:11 PM Northernlights, very cool! How do you carry it? Trailer or ? JPA2002 04-24-2006, 07:13 PM OK, pic time! I love the Rhinos! This baby has a receiver hitch setup on it from Montana Jacks that allows the winch to moved from the front to the back. They also make one for the Rhino, and it is cool. Jon gadgetz 04-24-2006, 07:20 PM JPA2002...WOW! That's a nice set up! Like the wheels are those custom? JPA2002 04-24-2006, 07:27 PM They are 26" MST Outlaw tires with DNA Aluminum wheels. These were purchased from www.highlifter.com. You can customize these things like cars. Don't buy a new ATV, as you can find good deals on ebay. These things depreciate worse than cars. I bought this one for $4800 (not including accessories) with 10 hours, 25 miles on it. It has an extended 4 year warranty, and the person I got it from paid over $7500 for it (it was 2-3 months old when I got it). Jon 5S Dude 04-24-2006, 07:42 PM Very smart move JPA2002, I was telling gadgetz the same exact thing” Look for a slightly used one to start off with. Your quad is bad to the bone!! Awesome Rhino northernlights! Two people can have so much fun together in that thing! Great photos of the stream crossing!! Here's some photos of what we rode before we went with two wheels. gadgetz 04-24-2006, 07:46 PM Hey Ron! Yup you & JPA2002 are right. Tried a search on e-bay...not much in San Diego. I found one on craig's list...but the buyer wasn't up front (pretty banged up) and I wasted a day and half with the guy. I found a Honda Recon ES $3,200 out the door. Still looking....Thanks again!!! See you on Sunday Ron. Just curious...how much does a Rhino cost? JPA2002 04-24-2006, 07:50 PM Thanks 5S, did you get my email on the door sills? Jon 5S Dude 04-24-2006, 11:12 PM Thanks 5S, did you get my email on the door sills? Jon Yes I did. I just want you to be totally blown away with the design of your new door sills because like all of our members who have supported me in this hobby, you are much more than just another customer to me. ROC-on! :p kneemow 04-25-2006, 01:03 PM Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not too sure about picking up a used one just yet. I really don't know that much about ATV's and wouldn't know exactly what to look for in a good vs bad one. I'd just as soon spend the extra money so I would at least have the peace of mind should anything go wrong on it short of it being my fault (i.e. smashing it into a boulder or a down a cliff). Having said that i did look at a few used ones on ebay and i found a possible candidate, but they looked real beat up. By beat up i mean parts were smashed or the handlebars were bent. i did locate one that wasn't beat up, but it was some dealer selling a 2006 model online. Motoman 04-26-2006, 06:25 AM "gadgetz Hey Ron! Yup you & JPA2002 are right. Tried a search on e-bay...not much in San Diego. See you on Sunday Ron. Just curious...how much does a Rhino cost?" I found a Rhino Camo edition 660 for $ 9100 out the door. $ 8600 for a green one, both have warrenties. The problem with buying one used is you do not know what it has been through. They sell snorkel kits to mod bog underwater! If they put it all back stock you could be buying trouble. I am going to rent one or two up in the mountains to see if I like them better then my bike. gadgetz 04-26-2006, 08:45 AM Hi Motoman! Thanks for the information...those "side by side" quads are very cool! | |
