The State of Maine was also my pick when I read that quiz in the National Geographic Magazine. Are you sitting down -- Alaska (Aleutian Islands) Yep the west coast is East Pacific Ocean. Ridge Man is correct. The Aleutian Islands "cross" the International Date Line, so they are actually "east" of the continential U.S.

This is an old bar quiz:
1. Name the Most Northern U.S. State.
2. Name the Most Southern U.S. State.
3. Name the Most Eastern U.S. State.
4. Name the Most Western U.S. State.

The answer to #1, #3, & #4 is Alaska. Hawaii is #2.

Of the contiguous 48 states, Maine is the farthest East. Of the 50 states, Alaska is the "farthest East" - due to it having "the 180th line of longitude, which goes through Alaska. So Alaska is farther east than almost anywhere else on earth, including Maine."
