2006 Honda Ridgeline Features (http://hondanews.com/CatID2135?mid=2005011039475&mime=asc)
Here is an interesting post from Temple of VTech that gives some explanation of some of the Ridgeline's features and planned omissions.

Whaleya 04-05-2005, 09:00 PM Here is an interesting tidbit for Nav equiped trucks:
This screen is used to graphically display the sun's position as determined by GPS. the Navi uses the sun's angle, along with the sunlight sensor to control the driver/passenger A/C air flow. The heat that must be removed by the A/C unit varies, depending on the angle of the sun entering the vehicle.

Wow, that is pretty cool.

MontanaFred 01-10-2006, 08:25 PM One of the features I have come to really appreciate on the Ridgeline are the "big" handles on the front doors. Some of the reviewers I read before I bought my Ridgeline even suggested these large handle looked goofy!!!
Well, ESCUUUSE MEEE!! I have found these handles to be exactly what is needed in an area with gusts of wind up to 90 miles per hour - which is what we have been experiencing here these last few days.
Anyone that has had the wind smack the truck door into your back or worse, into your pumpkin head will appreciate the practical value of having something that you can easily grab onto and easily hold to prevent severe physical trauma when the wind is conspiring to pound you senseless.
Thank goodness the Honda engineers realized the weather would become increasingly erratic due to _________ (fill in the blank).

While I agree about the functionality of the big handles, I think Honda should do something to make them a little less obvious. BTW- has anybody seen the big handles that come with the brand new RAV4- very similar!

I agree. While the wind isn't as big of an issue here in the burgh, parking on steep slopes is common. Those big handles make it a breeze to control the door swing in this situation, even while wearing gloves!
Not to mention, I always use it when taking sharp turns! I grab it every time I make a fast left! LOL:D
In the thread about the RL that caught on fire, you can see the steel skeleton of these pulls. Very substantial looking.

MontanaFred 01-11-2006, 06:30 PM The wind issue brings up another feature I like about the Ridgeline which is the wide wheel base and the high rollover resistance. Usually people roll their vehicles by turning too sharply but it was so windy near here yesterday that a camper, two semitrailers and a flatbed trailer were blown over!!!
From the Montana Billing's Gazette:
A six-mile section of Interstate 90 had been closed yesterday after winds blew over a camper being pulled by a pickup, two semitrailers and a flatbed trailer being hauled by a pickup. The wind gusts were reported at more than 80 mph.
The closed highway was reopened this morning, but southwest winds of 40 to 55 mph, along with gusts of as much as 75 mph, were predicted for the area this morning.
Webwader 01-11-2006, 06:37 PM Sounds like the Big Sky Country is also the Big Wind Country. I can understand the other three, but flipping a flatbed trailer is just plain scary.
cdepuydt 01-11-2006, 08:39 PM I know some people don't like the inside door handles. Besides being large and pretty handy, I think they look dang nice. Not only that, they are solid. I mean, you ever try reefing on one of those babies....?.... They don't give a cenitmeter. Not like the door pulls I had in my old S-10....that kept coming off in my hand!
cdepuydt 01-21-2006, 12:09 PM One other thing I thought of today, while I was digging around in my RL looking for my digital tire guage....and this feature may be trival to some people and isn't exactly a "wow factor".....but the RL's glove box is actually big enough to fit the RL's owners manuals, plus quite a bit of other stuff. I have owned several vehicles where, if I put the OM in there, I could barely fit anything else let alone a pair of gloves. And I thought....sheese...why bother.
MontanaFred 01-22-2006, 06:09 PM I agree cdepuydt. The glove compartment is very roomy. I put my user manual in there and my goves. The glove compartment rattled a little when it was empty but with the user manual in there is is very quiet.
Webwader 01-22-2006, 06:45 PM The glove compartment rattled a little when it was empty but with the user manual in there is is very quiet.
Maybe that's why Honda sent us two manuals, just in case we had a more severe rattle. :D
cdepuydt 01-23-2006, 04:00 PM Anybody every notice that you cannot lock your RL with the key fob when one door is open? I noticed that yesterday.....I took the family out for lunch and my wife did not close her door all the way. When I went to lock my RL, the fob wouldn't work. I went in, looked at the "door ajar" icon on the dash and, sure enough, her door was still open. I closed it and, tried it again, and it worked like a charm.

A safety feature so you don't walk away thinking you locked your vehicle when in fact you didn't because of the door that is still open.
cdepuydt 01-24-2006, 08:47 PM Yeah, I realize that NOW, nevadagarth. But, when it happened, I was thinking...."Oh crap....my battery is dead in my key already?!? How could that be....it's only 4 months old"!
Just thought I would pass that along in case anybody else ran into it and was wondering also.....
cdepuydt 01-28-2006, 08:03 PM Sorry...didn't mean to kill this thread!

That is a really cool idea and I am sure it took some thinking. All that planning and thinking, wish they would have put that thought into the auto locks.
waders 02-02-2006, 09:11 PM That happened to me when I had left the trunk not fully closed. It took me a moment to figure out why the remote was unresponsive.
cdepuydt 02-03-2006, 08:07 PM That happened to me when I had left the trunk not fully closed. It took me a moment to figure out why the remote was unresponsive.
Never even thought of that, waders. Good catch! If I would have left my trunk open a little and the remote didn't lock, I wouldn't even thought of that.
JohnR_In_La 04-09-2006, 01:41 AM Has anyone gotten a nice sliding moonroof without buying the high end model of Ridgeliner?
I guess I would have to buy that aftermarket, unless someone knows a trick?
verin099 06-13-2006, 09:29 PM Hay guys did any one now about this feature? first let me tell you that I have a BMW 540 and the cool feature is that you can hold the key transmitter button down for a few seconds and all windows and roof open so I tried that on my new 06 ridgeline and all the windows only open that I think is a cool feature but I did not know that maybe some of you did I think that’s cool
Ty_4_Cy 06-27-2006, 06:21 AM I thought I had learned all of the features of my Ridgeline while shopping for them, but this is something I never knew. For those of you who haven't tried it, press the unlock button on your keyfob twice, holding it down the second time. Presto, the windows come down! Comes in handy when your Ridge has been sitting in the sun for a while :)
Redgrappler 07-21-2006, 10:32 PM Yup thats always a nice surprise. Here's another one. You can't roll up your windows with the remote, but you can with your key in the lock. Turn it twice to the left (counter clockwise) and hold it on your second turn and watch them all go up together.
Tim1954Tinman 10-08-2006, 05:59 PM I like to park at restaurants were I can see my truck and when people walk by to admire it, I start to let the windows down some and wait and watch. If they keep looking, I let them down more, and if they continue to look, I set off the panic alarm! :D Of COURSE I don't let them see who is doing it! I do wish Honda would also allow you to roll the windows up via the remote. Once you let them down, either you watch your truck like a Hawk, or you have to get up and use the key to get them all back up. It would be a LOT more fun to do it all with the remote.
green_steele 10-29-2006, 01:07 PM LMAO Redrock... I have to try that!! :D
qiphlow 10-29-2006, 09:52 PM Yup thats always a nice surprise. Here's another one. You can't roll up your windows with the remote, but you can with your key in the lock. Turn it twice to the left (counter clockwise) and hold it on your second turn and watch them all go up together.
i knew about the windows down thing. i had the same with my accord, and just discovered it about the truck. i had no idea they could go up without turning on the truck! i love it! this ridgeline keeps getting better and better...:D
colin007 12-02-2006, 09:02 AM Most of these features aren't a surprise if one would sit down and fully read the manual before using the vehicle. I guess I'm not the typical guy, the first thing I did was read the users' manual from cover to cover the night I bought the truck. Everything I see a surprise on the forums is listed in the manual. You should always read your manuals before operating any piece of machinery or vehicle :)
W George 01-30-2007, 10:24 AM A few weeks ago I ran across a list of RL features that some owners may miss. such as sliding sun visors. Now I can't find that list anymore. Can someone lead me to that posting?
Thanks.
James Lee 09-17-2008, 05:14 AM I just get the manual for the pictures. Just like I get Playboy for the articles!
Actually I get the "Married Man's" Playboy, same centerfold each month......
