Does anyone know where, or what color the speed sensor wire is??? I am finishing installing an Alpine NVE-N872a nav system and I need to connect to this. Any help would be great....

I think most are reluctant to give help with electronic/electrical issues because of the dire consequences if something goes a-miss.

Since no one has answered you, I will give it a try. Hopefully someone PM'd you with the info.

The signal is called VSSOUT (vehicle speed signal output) and is available as a pulse signal on pin 29 (Blue/White) wire of the “A” connector on the PCM .
Note: The PCM has three connectors - A, B, & C.

The PCM ( Powertrain Control Module) receives a signal from the countershaft speed sensor.
The PCM processes this signal and sends it to the speedometer and other systems, - Navi, VSA, VTM 4, etc.

On the RL’s Navi these pulses are converted using a conversion factor to a mph speed signal that moves the VP (vehicle position) indicator on the Display Map when GPS satellite information is not available.

Don’t know if this pulse signal at pin 29 on the PCM is useable for your model Alpine NVE-N872a navi system but you can give it a try.

Caution: The PCM overwrites data and monitors the EVAP system for up to 15 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off.
Disconnecting the PCM connectors during this function, without jumping the SCS line first, can damage the PCM.
To do this you should use the HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) tool - sounds costly.

I would only tap into the pin 29 (Blue/White) wire and not disconnect the “A” connector. In addition, wait 30 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off and disconnect the battery negative terminal if you want to mess with the PCM wiring.

Hope this helps.

P.S. In reference to the first sentence of my post, I disavow any knowledge of this matter and this post will self destruct in 2 minutes. :) ;)

Just saw Mission Impossible III tonight. Great movie! :D

Dude, I had the same problem. Do a search of my posts and you'll find the info....

Hard to believe the factory audio system doesn't have speed compensated volume - heck, even my '96 astro had it.

Thanks guys,
Mugen1 had the info to me first. You know how it is I don't have much patience. Mugen1 found behind the passenger kick panel is where the abs box is located and I used the wht/red wire which is the front right speed sensor. It worked great. No problems at all. I really appreciate evryones help....This site rocks...:D

I agree. My Trailblazer had it and I loved it!
Sometimes you don't realize what you have until it's gone. Just as in life!
Isn't that just so true?

heck, even my '96 astro had it.

There's the reason right there.

The RL is pretty quiet. Plus, more things to go wrong.

If the stereo in a vehicle turned off or at least lowered the volume whenever it detected emergency vehicles approaching - then I'd be really impressed.

My '01 Focus has it too, as do a lot of vehicles.

While the RL is indeed quiet, I find myself constantly playing
with the volume in the same way speed compensated volume
would do.

I hardly think it adds any complexity or potential failure - XM,
CD changer mechanics, nav all do that to a greater extent already.

Never been in a vehicle with this feature. Somehow I think speed compensated volume would drive me nuts. If it were that cool, it would be in more vehicles.

The aftermarket deck in my RL has a road EQ - state of the art. It is not dependent on speed, but adjusts the musical output to the amount of noise entering the cabin. Not the volume, but whatever frequencies need boosting. Mind you, for a deck and processor that retails for 5 grand, it better have a few bells and whistles.

My Jag S-type had an "automatic volume control" and it was a very quiet car. It was adjustable to control how much volume increase with speed. I kinda liked it....

I dunno why the RL doesn't have that volume control....where the volume goes up and down depending on your speed. For crying out loud...my '97 Chevy S-10 had that!!!!

i HATE speed sensitive volume control!! My girlfriends `03 Monte Carlo has it and it is so damn annoying. there is no middle ground- either it is way too quiet or way to loud. if i want to turn my volume up i will do it MYSELF!
