i have read the big long thread on the gas milage,i am not the best at converting km per litre to miles per gallon.
figured i would post it in the canadian forum:)
what is the average that you get to a tank of gas?
do you generally get 500km before filling up? 700?
i do realize hiway and around town is different but i would like to get a general idea of how often people are filling them up
thanks for any replies

You have to be carefull when comparing US gallons and Canadian gallons (which are called Imperial gallons).
The differences are the United States liquid gallon is equal to 4 quarts or 3.785 liters.
The Canadian gallon (imperial gallon) is equal to 4 quarts or 4.545 liters.
Our Canadian gallon holds more....almost 3/4 of a litre more.
tickle1st 05-24-2006, 07:39 PM Another gas fact.
Gasoline volume changes approximately 0.125% for every 1ºC change in temperature (0.058%/ºF) . The energy content of a gallon of gasoline purchased by a motorist in Nome, Alaska in January could, theoretically, be as much as 8-10% greater that that of a gallon of gasoline purchased by a motorist in Phoenix, Arizona in July.
Boomer 05-24-2006, 07:58 PM Hi Russ:
I just completed a trip from Saskatchewan to Southern Minnesota. I am maintaining about 90 kph/55 mph whenever possible, and running an experimental 0w20 AMSOIL synthetic. I have yet to convert the transmission and transfer case to synthetic, but the results so far are encouraging.
The attachment shows fuel efficiency to date... red icons are US fuel purchases, green are Canadian. Triangular icons indicate fuel since conversion to the 0w20... prior to that, the truck had the 5w20 Mobil synthetic blend that came from the dealership.
9643
The small '*' above the icons is the ambient air temperature at the time of fuel purchase.
Units are statute miles per Imperial gallon.
Best so far: 34 mpg. Average on trip to US: 29.55. Overall average since purchase of vehicle: 24.77.
hijack204 05-24-2006, 09:37 PM Just got back from a trip to Minnesota, I was getting 350km per half a tank. All highway km, at about 120 km/h
thanks for the reply guys.
what is the formula that you use to figure out mpg?
all i can tell you is i used 70liters of fuel and went 505km
most of that was hiway driving but alot of long steep grades up and down.
boomer quite the chart:) well done
thanks russ
Boomer 05-25-2006, 03:30 PM what is the formula that you use to figure out mpg? all i can tell you is i used 70liters of fuel and went 505km
To convert km to miles, multiply by 0.625. Therefore, 505 km = (505 x 0.625) = 315.6 statute miles.
To convert liters to Imperial gallons, divide by 4.54. Therefore, 70 liters = (70 / 4.54) = 15.4 Imperial gallons.
To calculate mpIg, divide: 315.6 / 15.4 = 20.49 statute miles per Imperial gallon.
Hope this helps. :)
CBRidgeJockey 05-25-2006, 04:53 PM I guess when us Canucks post our MPG's its always going to be much higher than Yankee MPG's .... ha 20mpg city / 26 hiway.... much better than what was in my brochure...ha
thanks for the info boomer.
appriciate it.
russ
Boomer 05-25-2006, 07:42 PM My pleasure, Russ.
I can make some suggestions for improved efficiency, if you're interested. And if you'd like that fuel mileage charting program, I could probably post that too. :)
i would be interested in what you thought would help efficiancy.
for what it is worth i just bought it and it was my first tank of gas (i might have been a little heavy footed)
i will see how it breaks down over a few tanks of gas
thanks russ
hijack204 05-27-2006, 06:49 PM you'll have to wait until you get some km's on that truck before you'll even be able to see what kinda gas mileage your gonna get. Your truck is still in its "break in period" thats assuming you bought it off the lot brand new

Just made a trip from Edmonton to Calgaryand back. Total distance 650km which is about 400 miles. Fuel used around 70L which is close to 15 Imperial gallons. Approximate mpg- 27 Imperial or 22 mp US . Average speed was 120 km/hour. Of the 400 miles about 50 was city driving. Pretty much flat road all the way. Although not exactly mileage promised on sticker, close enough for me. Love the truck but not sure why us Canucks pay so much more to buy one especially when they are made here.
tickle1st 07-24-2006, 08:13 PM At on time there was a hidden manufacturers fed tax of 11% on goods in Canada.
I don't know if that is still in effect since we got the GST which Shiela said would be abolished by our Liberals.
Alfer 11-05-2006, 11:19 AM Well in all fairness to us living in Kommunist Kanada with the govt's. we have had we are use to paying through the nose for everything.
And we are the only people on the face of this planet that pay up to 47% to earn our money, ( Income Tax ) and then we are dumb enough to give them another 14% to spend it, ( GST + PST, or HST )
And you are right with the exchange rate getting lower all the time compared to US pricing .. What gives?
Gota Luv It ...

SoCalmikey 11-05-2006, 11:48 AM mpg = 9.7
no a/c
miles driven = 214.7miles
drive in city 3/4 of a time in traffic!
1/4 of a time in highway
use 87 octan fuel
light foot driver
actual mileage on truck 4,400
when is break in?
WVRIDGELINE 11-13-2006, 07:38 PM I have 2000 miles on my RL. Used 93 octane last fill up. Still got 16.6 mpg, which is about average so far. Needless to say I won't be wasting money on higher octane fuel any more. I'm hoping my mpg gets a little better over time.
djeaux 11-13-2006, 07:46 PM With 5200 miles on my RTX, I'm averaged a hair over 18 mpg. My highest has been just over 20 mpg & my lowest has been just under 16. I noticed an improvement at about 2500 miles & my previous experience with Hondas makes me expect to see some more improvement through 10K.
At this point, my Ridge is getting pretty much the same mpg that I got out of my '99 GMC Sierra V6. The difference? The Sierra was a single cab 2WD. I don't really notice that the Ridge is any slower accelerating & it's a whole lot quieter getting there...
monty 05-19-2007, 12:26 AM Well I bought my RL not too long ago, and has around 4600km on it so far.
and I usually only drive the truck till half empty then fill it up again. but for that 1/2 tank, I am getting anywhere from 225km up to 250km ( all city driving, but Calgary does have a lot of roads where you can go 80km on it).
I have not yet taken it on a hwy trip, but can't wait to get the results.
But I have noticed that there must be like 10 or 15 liters left even once it hits the "E" and when filling it after it stops you can put like another 10 liters it the tank.
oh yeah, I am not that light on the gas either, I find it does eat a little more gas when driving it a bit hard, but not that bad.
but so far I have ended up hauling 3 loads of slate, 2 tons each ( installing floors in the new house), and it drove like there was nothing in the back.
drove out to the mountains (snowboarding) and handled no problem through pretty bad ice and snow ( almost like it was on pavement, great 4WD system on it).
this is the best truck I have ever been in, and I have been around a lot of trucks in my life ( came from a small town were everyone drives trucks ).
Now it is just the price of gas!!!! 1.21 today, man made me cry.
Gas companies - can't live with out them,.. and they suck..

$1.21?? It went up to $1.11 yesterday from previous high of $1.08
In Alberta you should be paying under $1
You've got as much oil as Saudia Arabia!
btw... Albertans refer to Ontario and Quebec as 'the Middle East'
The Maritimes and Nfld. are 'the Far East'

I have an new 08 Ridgeline black, in the owners manual there is a formula for calculating fuel mileage. Check it out. JCA Cloverdale BC
