Texas ROC Cookout In June

We have been going round and round on this for quite some time. One problem is that Texas is so big it is hard for people to plan a meeting anywhere that is convienant. I suppose this proposed event will be geared to the Dallas/East Texas owners because of the location but no matter where you live, post here if you are interested.

One of our members who lives in Plano has a weekend lake home near Tyler and has offered to host a get together/cookout/fishing some Saturday in June (other than the 3rd). We can plan a bigger event during the cookout. If anyone wants to spend the night and play golf the next day, I can get you in at 9:00am Sunday where I live at the Holly Lake Golf Club.

So please post here if you can come, how many people you are bringing and your first and second choice of dates. I will post additional details, exact location, directions, etc. (if anyone shows an interest). This will be just an informal get together and a chance for us to talk about a real Texas ROC meeting down the road. As I said in another post, at least it is a start.

Any Saturday in June is fine for me shortspark, except that the company I work for is way behind on orders and shipping dates, and we have been working 10 hour days (6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays since before Thanksgiving 2005. The boss recently posted new 8 hour Saturdays, from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., so my time Saturday will be limited, by the time I get home and take care of my responsibilities (89 year old mother) at home, clean up and travel to wherever this lake house is. What lake is the weekend house on?

For 8 years, from the age of 6 to 14 (1960-1968), my parents owned a fishing camp with a restaurant, Pete's Camp, on Lake O' The Pines, and it burned me out on fishing or even eating fish.

I have never played golf.

It looks like I would be a late afternoon show and go, just long enough for a meet and greet and then back home for the night shift.

I may could try to schedule a Saturday off, but that will depend on what job is HOT and where we are on our schedule, and most of the time that is not known till the end of the day before.

I will keep watch for what day.

Okay Tim, sounds good. Even a stop by will be fine if you can make it. I think Rick mentioned something like Lavendor (spl?). Does that ring a bell for a lake around Tyler?

I know there is a Lavender Road, but I could not find a Lavender Lake, but THEN I thought of this one. Did Rick say it was a private lake????

Information on Callendar Lake in Southeast Van Zandt County
The lake is approximately 350 acres.
Lake is stocked with black crappie, large mouth black bass. There are also plenty of
catfish, channel, blue cat, and more.
There is also a small lake (25 acres) with no motors allowed.

The main lake allowances are listed below.
Jet Skis: Are they permitted? Yes
Swimming: Can you swim in the lake? Yes
Average water level variance? Constant level lake
Boat Docks: Are they permitted? Yes
Power Boats: Are they permitted? Yes
Depth of Lake:
Nearby cities: Distance to nearby major cities?
Canton (20 min.), Athens (20 min.), Tyler (30min.) Dallas (60 min)
Nearest airport: Tyler
Building restrictions and requirements:
Yes, the two sub-divisions have different restrictions and requirements.

Callender Lake is a private lake made up of two gated sub-divisions, "Callender Lake" and "Hickory Hills". The only
way to gain access to the lake is to own property there or be a guest of a property owner. It is a constant level lake, one of
only a few in Texas. Jet Skis, Power boats, sailing boats, and fishing boats are all allowed. However because this is a private lake
there is very little traffic. Both sides allow boat docks. The two sub-divisions have different restrictions and requirements.
Callender Lake side only allows site built homes and has more restrictions than the Hickory Hills side.
The Callender Lake side has a community boat ramp, fishing pier, children's park,
and a swim beach with picnic areas and bathrooms.
The Hickory Hills side has the following amenities:
Park with swings and basketball area
Swimming pool
2 beach areas
Boat launch
Public restrooms

Many years ago I knew some people that lived on Callender Lake, and it was a nice lake back then and is probably nicer now, if this is the lake Rick's house is on.

Tim, maybe you are right. I might have got Lavendar and Callendar mixed up. Anyway, it looks like no one is responding. We ought to just met at the Hawkins Sonic!!! BTW, have you been to the new Fish Hawke on Lake Hawkins? The old one had good food, high prices and terrible service. The new one is suppose to be under new management with essentially the same menu but better prices.

As you know, there are several places in and around Hawkins to meet and eat at, if that becomes an option one day.

By the way, was that you that I met just north of Hawkins on 14 this weekend? I flashed my lights, but didn't see a brake light, as whoever it was in a silver Ridgeline passed me by, so I just kept going.

As you know, mother and I ride around Lake Hawkins several times a week, and one day I noticed the Fish Hawk Point Restaurant open, so I stopped to see what they had. They gave me a take out menu and I went to the truck and read through it. I have a WEAKNESS for LASAGNA, and it was on the menu, so I went back in and got a to go order. I can't remember the price, but it was very reasonable for homemade LASAGNA. It was very good, other than I, well really my acid reflux, is not found of sausage, and that was the meat in the lasagna. I would suggest that as our meeting place if you want to get together some afternoon or weekend.

By the way, when the Fish Hawk was under the previous owner, I also stopped and asked for a menu. A very nice young man told me he was the owner and gave me the menu and then was so proud of what his wife had done on the decorating, that he wanted to give me the complete tour. He took me through the dinning rooms explaining everything and insisted I tour the kitchen and meet the staff. THEN he opened this other door, asked me to go in, and said he wanted to "SHOW" me something. Once I walked in the room, with him between me and the door, we were in the BATHROOM!!!!!!!!!! I almost freaked out, but he just wanted to "show" me the tile he had on the wall. :o I guess I am just silly, but men don't go with other men in a bathroom!!!!! OK ladies, I know that you CAN'T go to the bathroom without another lady with you, but men WON'T go to the bathroom with another man. Just like the books says, men are from Mars and women are from Venus! :D

Nope, that wasn't me on 14. We have a lady home builder out here that has one just like mine. That is interesting about the Fish Hawk - I guess he must have been real proud of that john!! I love Lasagna too, hey, I'm Italian!! Sure, lets have lunch or something there someday, whenever it is good for you I can probably make it. As far as the cookout goes, well, there just is no interest looks like.

Hey guys!! The club lake that I live at is off of Lavender Rd. just north of the loop 323. Lavender rd. connects loop 323 and i 20. There is a rodeo arena about halfway between the loop and i 20. that' the cut off to Spring Club Lake. That's where Doris and I live. At any rate, true we can always meet at the sonic in Hawkins.......or was it big Sandy. Let me know and I will show up. Rick

Rick, I go to the Hawkins Sonic often and then ride around Lake Hawkins, and that is where I saw shortspark pass by, but he thought I was the other REDROCK Ridgeline that lives out by him, so he just kept going. I didn't receive an alert to this message or I would of responded quicker.

Tim, I sent Rick an email and I am waiting to hear from him. Maybe this weekend (?) if he is going to the lake house. When I hear I'll let you know.
