allhans 06-09-2006, 03:49 PM OK, the're mounted. :D
I really like the look, especially how they complement the stock wheels.
NOTE: I did not use the knurled rivets at all. Instead, I used a 5/16-18 bolt on each side, placing them into the rivet holes from the inside via the adjacent access hole. A little tricky -- make sure you don't drop the bolt in there! I tied a piece of thread onto the bolt to help me pull it through. After you mount the rear bracket, just spin on the nut. Lock washers on both sides will help keep the bolt from spinning while tightening.
The knurled rivets are in the trash.

I'm betting these will look equally sweet on the Silver Ridge!!! :D

These come in silver, black, and chrome.
Pizza Man 06-09-2006, 07:15 PM Nice, allhans. real nice. I glad you posted these pics. I was thinking of matching my blue RL with the black steps. I think the silver is a much better choice.
06grnridge 06-09-2006, 07:26 PM Very nice...I actually received mine two days ago and they were badly damaged...H&A picked them back next day :) They are a little different than the Pilot, but still nice.
I am torn in between chrome and silver...I wished the paint was smooth like the roof rack, but it's not...the ones I received looked very rough (still nice) and the collor was a darker silver...I will re-order them in a few days, probably in chrome.
Very nice allhans!!
Thanks for posting the pix!!!
I'm thinking silver on silver will be a winner for my Ridge.
How far below the bars and underside of the truck do the brackets extend?

scottIN 06-10-2006, 06:03 AM you SOBs just cost me $370...:D
And I don't really want them for the step factor - I want to cover up that ugly panel attachment at the bottom of the truck.

Go to the HandA section. They are the June special.

Here are pics of the underside for those who are interested.

Where did you get that idea? We think alike.........
gonzo's rt 06-10-2006, 10:28 AM What I like about these is that they are tight to the body of the truck. A friends wife broke an ankle when her leg went into the space between the bar and the body of the truck with aftermarket bars. Note on all aftermarket bars, how much of a gap is in that area.
These are going in mine soon!
Here are pics of the underside for those who are interested.
Thanks again allhans! Great job on the photos. It appears as though the brackets hang lower as you go toward the rear of the truck. Is this correct, or an illusion in the pictures?
I'm trying to score these steps as a Father's Day gift. So far...no luck!

The brackets hang equally low front to back. I can see how it looks like that in the pictures, but it must be an illusion.

It was from fooling with that stinkin' rivet for 15 minutes...I was trying the various tools others have used successfully...but not me.
Then I grabbed a bolt and and said "I wonder if I can get this in here."
All downhill after that. :D
Q1000 06-19-2006, 01:47 PM Just ordered a set of the Silver ones. Should be in by Wednesday:D
bill-e 06-19-2006, 02:07 PM By the way, are these the steps that have been discontinued by Honda because of corrosion problems?
Pizza Man 06-19-2006, 02:28 PM No, Bill-e, these are the new and improved version.

jsant01, how do we know this? Is it a different part number? thanks
Da Ridge 06-19-2006, 05:20 PM Anyone put the chrome ones on a Billet Silver yet? Or am I the only one interested in that combo?...I plan on putting on some chrome 20's...and think that the chrome step would go better...what do you think?
toolz_not_toyz 06-19-2006, 11:09 PM ...how do we know this? Is it a different part number? thanks
Because they are a different part number and because they look completely different from the originals. Hope that helps.

I'm planning on doing the same, but I decided on the black steps instead. They should be here tomorrow from H and A. I've had stainless and chrome nerf bars in the past and they were a pain to keep looking really nice. Plus I didn't want the steps to really stand out all that much. I think I'll add the chrome bumper trim along with some chrome or black/chrome 20's and it will look nice.
Good luck. I know it's a pain figuring out what works and what does not with silver. :)
Da Ridge 06-20-2006, 01:03 AM unixadm...that sounds like a good combo too! Post some pics when you're done!
IceBerg 06-20-2006, 12:01 PM Hey allhans, the steps look great! It looks like H&A pulled the silver steps from the website because of problems with shipping damage and scratches. What do you think about the finish? Do you think they are susceptible to easily scratch? Were yours scratched?
I don't see how the silver painted finish would be any different than the black painted finish and I'm sure they are boxed the same.
I'm sure they are boxed the same.
They aren't boxed the same. Slight differences in packaging puts the steps right next to staples which rub on the steps every time the box is moved and eventually marks up or scratches away the paint.

So are they packaged differently now? and are they easily scratched? Just curious

As far as I know this is the way they have always packed the Silver ones. Honda hasn't responded to our packaging problem report yet so I don't know when they will update the packing. They tend to think when we report packing problems it is just because we reship the items and as they've told us several times they don't package them for us to ship. Our rep should be here tomorrow so if I can catch him and show him the steps it might speed things up.
I'm not sure how much it takes to scratch them. I do know the black ones are very similar to the Pilot ones that Honda has had for a couple years now and we haven't had any complaints on them.

ChrisM 06-21-2006, 05:45 AM I'm surprized Honda didn't offer free upgrades to all RL owners who had the original side steps. I would think that this would be like any defective product that Honda has offered in the past.
I would talk to the dealer and have them contact the regional rep to see if you can get free new side steps.
OK, the're mounted. :D

allhans,
I will have my steps from H&A in the next few days and I've been contemplating not using the rivet nuts as well. The access hole you are referring to... is the rubber plug easy to get out and back in securely? Is it close enough to the rivet nut hole to slide with your finger a nut with a lock washer down along the inside and stick the bolt thru the hole and start threading? I figured if I can get a lock washer nut inside and use the bolt that came with the steps, I could hold the nut against the inside with my finger until it snugs and grabs so it won't spin while tightening.
Thoughts?

Getting that plug/grommet in and out is no problem. As for getting the bolt in through there, if you have long, skinny fingers it should be easier. I do not, so I tied a piece of sewing thread to the threaded end of the bolt, inserted the sewing thread into the access hole (the bigger one) and pulled it through the rivet hole. Then I just pulled the bold through...you can hold the head of the bolt through the access hole with your finger to spin on the nut.

From what I heard from H&A it was all in the packaging. The steps I received from H&A were not scratched. The scratches from the prior batches were do to the steps rubbing against the packaging staples. It appears that the Honda warehouse figured out the problem.
offroad911 06-26-2006, 07:27 AM Scott,
Where did you get them for $370?
Although they don't have them listed on their website, I KNOW that Median Honda has them and their price is the lowest on the internet. Drop Phil a note and you will be very pleased you did !

Bill - Try this vendor, his price is $365 for black & silver and $425 for chrome, the BEST PRICE ON THE NET ! I bought virtually every accessory for my Ridge for this vendor, great service and the best prices.
