Side Window Deflectors (Vent Visor)

Recently I bought a set of Side Window Deflectors (front and rear, 4 of them) from mats.com. It cost $89.95 plus $12 shipping, total $101.95. On the web site it claimed "Installation is quick and easy, with no exterior tape needed." But that only applied to the front deflector. The rear deflector have tapes that need to adhere to the inside window channel. Even their demo video did not mention any interior tapes on the rear deflector.

I was disapointed paying a great deal for the low quality product (the edges are rough). So I call the customer service. The representative was very rude and blame me that I didn't read their web site. For me it was just a simple question but received no respect at all.

Question: If the vendor claimed in-channel installation, does LUND or AVS have any kind of tapes (interior or exterior) to deal with?

I have the AVS vent visors (4 piece) in channel, held in place with 3m tape. Paid $49.99 at a local Auto-Zone. No problems & easy install.

Found these here on this forum. Haven't gotten around to ordering them yet.

I can't quite tell from your post what brand of vent visors you ended up buying. I'm sorry to hear you're disappointed in yours. We got the VentShade brand and are happy with ours. They are in channel and all four of them had adhesive to keep them in place. I'm surprised to hear your front ones didn't have tape. What makes them stay in place?

Here's the post I made about installing ours if anyone else has questions about the process:

Truckin', Did you ever get the auto up on the driver's window to work consistently? I wonder if you can "reprogram" it like you have to do when you reconnect the battery? Seems like that would fix the issue of not always closing properly.

Hey, Steve. It's a strange, intermittent minor annoyance. It still happens sporadically. We've speculated that it has to do with the temperature, cleanliness of the glass, the alignment of the planets. . .

We've gone more than a month when it never malfunctioned. BIGGUY has to open his window everyday to get on the base, so he uses it year round. He's used to resorting the regular up button when he needs to.

I don't know if the battery removal will help. It's not worth having to reprogram our XM to experiment with it. In the grand scale of things, this is a non issue. We love our vent visors. It's so nice to leave the windows open a bit, rain or shine, on warm days.

Hi Truckin’, my understanding about the in-channel, no-tape concept is to insert the “lip” (the extension part on top of the visor) into the window channel. Yes. It will create problem on the driver’s window with the “auto” mode. Since the visor and the window share the same channel.

Now if I close the driver window using the “auto” mode, once the window touches the top and senses the tightness/resistance the window will lower down half way for safety reason. According to the vent visor manufacture, this problem will be corrected but I’m still experiencing the same behavior.

I was just surprised that the back windows required using tapes even the vent visors are inserted to the window channel. Also, the visor edges are pretty rough compared with other manufacture’s visor from my friends.

That is false advertising...I hope you paid for the deflectors with a credit card.
Call your credit card company and explain the situation. They can hold back payment to the company, or charge them back the amount you paid, and credit your card.

The mats.com visor are the Weathertech visors, which I just installed. The auto-up function doesn't work because of the visor puts too much resistance on the window. Has anyone else had this problem, and did it go away???

I also have the Weathertech in-channel vent shades. They fit well and I'm pleased with how they look.

However, the auto-up on the driver's window only works correctly about half the time. I had a set on a 2006 CRV I owned prior to the RL and the auto up worked fine. I've adjusted to the inconvenience..... I also notice a bit of wind noise from them as well.

For those of you that have installed the VentShade brand, any wind noise?

The VentShades give me a little windnoise at high speeds. Hardly noticeable, to me. They do interfere with the auto-up feature about 25% of the time.
