I have found out how to turn on the back-up camera manually. It is as I figured and posted here in the past. All you have to do is put 12 volts to the backup lights and the backup camera turns on no matter what gear you are in. I did this test today by pullin the taillight assembly and inducint 12 volts onto the positive lead of the backup light usind the body as ground.
If You have a service and or parts manual I need your help to find where I can locate the positive lead to the backup light under the dash as I don't want to run a wire all the way back to the tail light assembly. PLEASE HELP me find this wire under the dash and I will do a full write up of instructions with photos and share it here with all.

You might be in luck with this one. The wire you want is the solid green, Q10. The Q socket is the one circled in the picture below. In case I'm wrong, and before you tap the wire, test with a back probe that it goes live when you engage reverse. The picture is from my guide to the door unlock feature. http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4713
{Edit} The solid white wire in the socket below that one is the always live feed to the transmission reverse switch. The switch grounds the circuit to energize the relay.

Thanks, I will check that in the morning. My thought is to put a switch in the open position between the two seat hearter switches. Then run one wire from the switch to one of the 2, 12 volt accessory outlets just inches away and the other to the backup light lead.
Could use most any switch in the blank cover but would look much better to use an original switch made for the slot. Will check with Honda as to what switches are made that fit that size opening.

My backup camera had a glitch one time where it got stuck on until I shut the truck down, then it was fine... Thing is, I thought It was cool at 1st, but when driving, especially at higher speeds, it was sorta like ya gotta be good at the newer video games:D It was throwing off the equilibrium per say. It was weird watching a car approach, me doing 50, them doing 50, then in the rear view mirror, they still look like they were doing 50...rear camera...100:eek:
Anyway, for me... if I watched it all the time, it would make me sick. Also you do not get a good shot of the ladies in the car behind you, if thats your goal;)

My intrest in turning it on outside of reverse is to check loads that I'm carrying behind me on a trailer or tilt-a-rack.

That happened to me when I put it into reverse right when the boot screen was switching to the nag screen on the Navi.
It was pretty funny for about three minutes ...then it drove me nuts.

The white wire works, but it also turns on my reverse lights and my backup sensors.
Is there any way to activate the camera without turning on the reverse lights?

Cut the wire between the lights and the camera and install a diode such that current can flow from the lights to the camera, but not vice-versa. When you are in reverse, power goes to the lights and the camera. When you activate your switch, power goes to the camera and stops at the diode.

this input seems to be a ground input that drives a relay, I will try it and see if it works.
