Radio volume

Hi Folks,

I just noticed that my RTL w/roof radio only increases to 40 on the dial. While this is loud it is not ear shattering an when driving fast with the windows down is just about enough....but it certainly isn't 160 watts.

So is 40 the highest level your's goes to or does mine need a reset or something.

I don't usually crank it above 24...but 40 does seem low. I suppose it's Honda's way of saying we should be listening to more than music when we drive. :)

honda, although great functions has the worst stereo's ever.

my acura had a 6 disc in dash. the volume wasnt loud enough to hear with windows down and it had bose speakers. aftermarket units are great

im just trying to decide pioneer z1 or kenwood nav

I don't usually go higher that 15 on CDs and 20 on radio (sometimes 25). Why roll the windows down though? I have A/C on mine. :D

I second that emotion. Great cars, not so great stereos although, in my opinion, the Ridgeline's upgraded stereo is the best Honda system I've owned (3 Accords and one Acura TL in the past 7 years). My '04 Accord has better clarity on the high end but has wimpy bass response. At least the Ridgeline's bass response is decent thanks to the subwoofer.

I recently purchased an Ipod 60 GIG. I play it throughthe FM of my Ridgeline. However, the 40 max allowed on the radio while playing IPOD music is equivelant to approx 25 while playing a CD.
Does anyone know how I can change this situation?
It is very frustrating having to listen to your favourite music at such a low level.(forget opening the windows or roof)

luisf9 - the FM is normally lower in volume than the CD on the RL. Not sure why but that seems to be the way it is. Playing your iPod through an FM adapter is even worse though. ALL FM modulators are terrible. The worst are the transmitters. They just send a terrible (poor fidelity and low volume) signal to the FM radio.

THe only way I found to get an IPOD to A) sound good and B) have enough voice is to use and aftermarket kit that will plug in through the back of the head unit. I tried wired FM and also every fm modulator on the market but nothing had the clarity of one plugged in. I thought the fm solutions distorted the music too much, all I heard was mid-bass and tinny cymbles, no midtones. Also the volume adjustments sucked, not loud enough and varied too much from song to song.

I use the Harmon-Karden Drive and Play with the SoundGate HOND3 box to plug into the Head unit. I think it sounds as good as the cd sound.

I've got the RTL w/nav and AUX input jack on the dash. When I plug anything into the AUX input, it immediately switches the audio screen to the AUX view, and shows a different volume-level than what I had set for XM.
Have others found it to be "normal" to have two separate volume-levels displayed?

Yhank You for the advice, I am also considering the OEM cable to connect to the IPOD. The local audio guy wants $ 80 to install and The part can be purchased for $ 162+ ship.
What do you think about that option?
