: problems with scratches in bed
ncridgeliner 06-17-2006, 09:29 AM I had to load a 200 pound piece of decorative fountain in the bed. As soon as I slid it in I knew I had done damage. It sliced a chunk of whatever this material is in this bed and left a white scar in the bed. This bed is too delicate for hauling nearly anythnig. Is there anything Honda can do when this happens? I would hate to see any one try and load a scoop of rocks like the commercials I seee for this truck. This material will not stand up to repeated use.
Jake94526 06-17-2006, 09:38 AM i feel your pain, i put a black rubber bed matt in my Ridge that I had from the F150 I sold, trimmed it down so it fits nice and snug and so far this has solved any problems i had, but i agree it does seem the bed is not as tough as Honda leads you to believe.
kanji 06-17-2006, 09:42 AM ROC'ers have known this delicate bed of ours isn't scratch proof nor scratch resistant. Roc'ers have either put rubber mats or have decided to lined their beds with some sort of coating i.e. Line X or rhino lining (light coat) so it doesn't bog or put too much weight on the trunk lid. Some has gone to buy a replacement bed from honda parts store. I guess, i'll be using my bed anyway till its time to coat it with Line-X, till then i may just buy a rubber mat to cover and prevent any future scratches.
As for honda doing anything, they may recomend to have you buy a repair kit from them (basic paint cover in a bottle). Honda even remove the scratch proof/resistant on the 2007 model RL beds and manuals. I think our bed are dent resistant, but not scratch resistant. my 2cent.
My truck bed is like my hunting rifle. Nicks and scratches don't bother me, as it's the sign of a trusty fine tool.

While it may not be as pretty to look at those white scratches, I don't think you've really done any damage. The bed has not been structurally compromised and will not rust. I've got a ton of white scratches on mine, but I consider those signs that I'm using this truck the way it was intended. I figure that over time if a problem does develop I'll just have the bed Rhino-lined.
You said that it sliced a chunk? If a chunk came out, you better head off to Honda!
I have the white scratches as well. Mine occurred from bicycles, not exactly heavy duty for sure. Until I see a little more damage I'll just run with the scratches.
Here is a thread on the Line-X installed (with photos):

I book marked it so I can reference it when I go for mine!
Whaleya 06-17-2006, 06:20 PM I am very happy with the bed. I've hauled all sorts of junk and the bed is dent free and, of course, rust free.
Yes, I do have scratches, but it is a pickup bed, afterall.

RRIDER 06-17-2006, 07:22 PM I started to get a couple of the white sratch marks in the bed of my Ridgeline,
and didn't like the looks of it. I called about possibly getting a Rhino Liner sprayed into it. They told me they had not done a RL, but would like to take a look at it, as they had not really looked at the bed, and didn't realize it had the trunk. When he looked at the bed, he didn't think it was a good idea to do it. He was concerned about the rubber plugs in the front section of the bed floor. Also said the side panels should be removed to do it properly, thus costing more,($500.00+). I called a Line-X dealer...he told me no way would he do it, over the phone. So I opted for a bed mat. None available locally, but Pick ups Plus said they could get me one for $79.95 + tax.
I ended up ordering the same bed mat from TruckCustomizers.com for $45.99 and 15.99 shipping. It came Fedex yesterday. It fits the bed nicely, and is quite thick. It does however need to have a couple of notches cut into it where the lower rear tie down cleats are to open the trunk. The weight of it on the trunk does push it closed unless you flip it forward...not a major problem. Besides the few flaws with the bed mat....I think it looks good.
Sorry for rambling!
bigred1 06-17-2006, 08:38 PM H and A sell bed "scratch pens"
tlaudio 06-18-2006, 11:07 AM ALL unprotected beds will scratch.
At least it will not rust like other trucks! It is also a lot more dent resistant than other trucks.
Its not a big deal to me......if it was on the outside of the truck....that would concern me!

ATRUCK IS ATRUCK,IS A TRUCK, iS A TRUCK.......EASY SOLUTION...DONT PUT ANYTHING IN THE BED!!!!!!:D
xd9x19 06-21-2006, 01:04 PM I wonder, if you owned a truck before bed liners became popular, did people get upset when the paint scratched in the bed of their truck?????
I think bed liners have turned truck owners into a bunch of Martha Stewarts concerned with how "nice" the bed of their truck appears.
I'm not thrilled that the bed liner is marked up easily, but I think I'll going to go with the "it's a truck" crowd.

So, Mr. NCridgeliner, did you take it to Honda and complain? What did they say?
Any pics?

alsridge 06-22-2006, 07:22 AM I went to Lowes and picked up two all weather mats, with a rubber base. The only problem with it, when I open the the trunk bed, the one mat slide forward. I'm going to install Velcos to the bed and mats. The great thing about the mats is, that it has a carpet finish and what ever I put things on it, it doesn't slide. The cost was $20. each.

Yes I have owned a truck without a bedliner before...But a piece of cardboard didn't scratch the paint in the bed like it did in my RL.
An empty folded up carboard box left light scratch marks.
I like my RL really well, but the composite material in the bed leaves a lot to be desired.
Call me Martha Stewart if you want xd9x19. You can put all the scratches you want in your truck. But don't bad mouth us who try to keep our vehicles as nice as possible....YES A TRUCK IS A TRUCK..and I will use it as a TRUCK,
and have a few times, but if I can use it without adding a LOT of scratches,
I WILL!

I'm with you RR. I personally don't like the fact that the bed scratches as bad is it does either but I have all but given up trying to save it. With a kid who drags a sprint kart stand, tools and all the accessories in and out of the bed almost daily when it doesn't fit in the trailer because he just has too much darn stuff, I am fighting a losing battle. I do hope Honda does something to fix this issue for up coming models. He won't be racing forever and I'll hopefully always own a Ridgeline.
P.S. I got the bed mat too late. :(

OK, let's calm down. The person who started this thread has only posted once. We're givin' them what they want. Trolls, that is.
The bed scratching easily is nothing new. We all know about it, and the original threads seemed to have died. No need to resurrect the topic because a troll pointed it out again. What other material can they make it out of and keep the costs down?
Anyway, another point for the trolls.
RRIDER 06-22-2006, 10:47 AM [QUOTE=mugen1]OK, let's calm down.]
I'm not mad....but If you want to quote me, don't take it out of context. I was responding to xd9x19 calling the people on this forum a bunch of "Martha Stewarts" for trying to keep our truck beds as nice as possible. Scratch free is not possible. But a bed mat should help. He also states that he is going with the "Its a truck" crowd. I take that as..If it gets all scratched up...OH WELL
Thats his & your right to do with your truck, and any other thing you own, what you want. I'm not bad mouthing anyone, but I work hard for what I have, and try to take care of things.....IF that makes me a "Martha Stewart"
So Be It!
mugen1 06-22-2006, 11:03 AM I guess I should not have quoted anybody. I just wanted to point out that I think we gave a troll what he/she wanted. I'm not taking sides or care what other do with their Ridgelines. I'm the last person on here that would criticize others for what they do to their own property. I go bizzarro when people tell me installing an exhaust is a waste of money or installing nitrous is like driving my Ridgeline into a brick wall.
Besides, Martha Stewart ain't so bad. Also, I go overboard with what the rest of my Ridgeline looks like. I polish her at least three times a day. I wonder if Martha can give me some tips on cleaning tree sap off the paint.
Aslo, I type so slow....... I have to use quote.
With the exception of the troll who started this thread, we are all Ridgeline owners. We have something in common. We bought a truck that is 2006 Truck of the year. No need to argue. Let's all be friends............ gawd, that's so corny.

Patiently it will come off with rubbing alcohol....
mugen1 06-22-2006, 09:16 PM Thank you, Martha. I will give it a go. Rubbing alcohol is harmless to auto body paint, right?

Problems like is, is a normal talk and maybe someone will have a answer. There is no reason to close the subject. The forum is set up for different topics, Right, You have no right to try to close the topic. If you are the Web Master you can do what you want too, and you will lose club member. "THAT IT EASILY AND YOU WILL LONG". That from a guy that live in New York. LOLOLO:D
mugen1 06-23-2006, 10:22 AM No, no, no........ I am not a moderator. Not even close. If I were, this forum would be abandoned. This thread is one of many on the same subject that's all. It is in the right part of the forums, though. Sometimes, I get carried away and start spewing useless stuff. I do it only once in awhile, then take a break from it.
Anyway, no worries, this place has very responsible moderators. BTW, NY is one of the places I would love to visit one day.

I'm not a troll you idiot. I work hard for my money and when I pay good money for what is supposed to be quality I have the right to complain if I am short changed. And another thing, Honda didn't keep the cost down. It is a high priced mid size truck. So far, because "they had to keep the cost down", I have had to have Honda paint the bumpers because the paint was so thin I could see through it and it started to peel away from the license plate lights. The bed is not meant for real truck work, and the gas mileage absolutely sucks! Yes, I love Hondas but they should have put more qualilty and thought into their new truck instead of thinking of ways to cut the cost. You must have money to throw away but I don't and Honda owes a lot of explanations to hard working patrons. .

How's about, "I'm not a troll".
Now, did you complain to Honda? What did they tell you? What was build date of your Ridgeline? Which dealer did you take it to?
You don't think the rest of us work hard for our money?
BTW, congratulations on your second post. You've really helped us out with your valuable insight. Thank you for your contribution.
Wow, charm school and the green pills really work.......
Ghostly 06-23-2006, 09:31 PM Trade it in... It obviously does not suit your needs.
tlaudio 06-24-2006, 08:13 AM Name 1 stock bed that does not scratch......
Bed liners, Line-X, Rhino do NOT count. The Ridgeline beds will NEVER rust like other beds.
Bottom line - It is a truck bed, not the hood of the truck!
alsridge 06-24-2006, 09:59 AM Gas mpg, ok sucks, but the truck takes Regular gas, not high test (I just showed my age).
If you did your research before buying the truck and was not happy about it, you should have not bought it.
I tested it at two dealers and read a lot before leasing it.
I would say I very happy with it. You now I love it, not like my wife. lololo:D
CUinaRidge 06-24-2006, 05:14 PM Why did I pay so much for this truck??
On the way into work tonight you go through a quick S curve, off the main highway onto the frontage road. It was pouring rain, needless to say the pavement was SLICK!! At 45mph I whipped off the highway onto the frontage road, nothing but STICK, no sliding no fishtailing.
A pickup truck following me did the same thing. I looked in the rearview mirrow and saw him fishtail right, fishtail left, fishtail right and then finally got er under control.
I am glad I paid so much for this truck, I feel safe in this truck and I think Honda got it right.
:D

H and A? Where is this? I have two sratches that I am grieving on now until I get over it?
Will the LINe x or Rhino hurt the lift on the trunk?

H and A is a sponsor of this forum. You can find their link at the accessories thread, or at their site under sponsors.
You should be able to buy the bed scratch pen from your Honda dealer too.
I don't have Line-X or Rhino, but there are several that have had theirs done and claim no problems with the trunk....If you want to see what others say about it, you should do a search...there is a lot of info about it. I checked with the local Line-X dealer, he told me he wouldn't do it....Rhino would, but said he would charge close to $500. I settled for a $50 bed mat.
