All of a sudden the AM radio cuts out when I hit a bump. Must be a loose wire somewhere. Dealer can't find it. The FM bands work fine--only the AM band bothers. Any ideas?

samething happened here. there are other ROC members with the same problem. some where I read the radio harness was the culprit. RL is at the dealer for this and other issues.

So why is it so hard to find out any information on this matter? How come more owners aren't complaining? Let's get this solved!!

I was told that they are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. The fix should be out sometime in August.

I did the search and couldn't see the posts you talk about. Can you help me with where they are? I'm a little slow at this. Thanks.

Problem is the wiring harness. I am currently on a waiting list according to the dealer to get one (bout 2 weeks). They actually found this site usefull in ordering the correct part when I told the service manager about it he looked through the forums. Says they'll need my baby two days...

It's my understanding that there are two common causes for this problem.

The first is a defective wiring harness. There is an updated harness being used on the 2007's and will be released for servicing 2006's as inventory works its way thru the system.

The second cause is a defective chip in the radio. This one is being kept pretty quiet right now.

I believe they will try the updated harness before changing out the radio.

Thanks to all for the info. I have been waiting a full month now for that harness. I think I may have more than just the harness going on as the radio cuts in and out and the volume goes up and down. AM only.

I also having this am problem. It's to the point now where I can't even listen to am radio. I have an appt. with dealer in a couple weeks to have a new sub harness put in.

Does anyone know how difficult this harness is to replace?

I don't think they have done one yet at my dealer--I hate being first with this kind of thing.

Thanks

Mine also has AM radio problems & is scheduled for a coaxial cable replacement this week. I'll report back if this works.

I just phoned the Service Department here in Palo Alto (where we bought the truck). The guy just pulled up the Tech Bulletin on the wiring harness issue.

He told me right off the bat they would NOT have the part in stock...and it would be a 'special order'.

I'm going to phone the asst. supervisor (he gave the bulletin to the asst. supervisor)--and ask him to pre-order the part so we can get it taken care of.

So, heads up. This isn't a part that is 'laying around' the dealership.

Can you list the tech bulletin number for me to give to the dealer. Thanks

Hi All,

I have narrowed it down to the dash. . . At first I thought it was in the steering wheel. Drive on the reflectors to a turn lane and it will cause static in the AM radio. . . . Tap on top of the dash and you can cause the same issue. . . seems to come and go?????

AM antennae connection?
Some part heats and cools making symptoms come and go???

Thats all I have as I have not taken RTL to the shop. . .

I have twice had my antenna shroud ripped off by oncoming trucks when using a 2 lane highway on a windy day. If the wind is blowing from the opposite lane side, when the oncoming truck passes me, the vacuum created sucks the shroud and antenna off. I have avoided driving on this highway but it seems like bad engineering to me. Honda claims that it has never happened before. Has anyone had similar problems??? This has happened twice to me in about the same area.

Wow, people still listen to AM radio?:p I knew my vehicle radios had an AM band, but can't remember tuning into one (except rarely for traffic/parking info) in the last 30 years. I think that is why you haven't heard more owners complaining about this problem.

Good luck getting this resolved, nontheless.

Does your shroud get knocked off at the car wash:confused: Also, if your shroud is loose did your dealer fix the part?

i finally scheduled my appt with honda service dept, they need the car from 7am to 6pm to analyze the problem. What I don't want is for them to look at it all day, then call me and say they need to order the part, bring the car back again.

Is there a bulletin # I can point them to so they can order the part ahead of time?

According to my service manager it is the coaxial cable that is the problem. I'm having mine replaced today. What they do is disconnect the existing coax cable and then run the new one alongside it. I will post the results when I get my vehicle back.

Livermore Honda did the AM radio harness upgrade on my RT today. No argument, no hassle, fast and efficient. They have been first class in all my service work.

Wipers are considered a wear item & are not covered under warranty.
(Just like tires)

You can find Honda wiper inserts on the web for about $12

Have similar problem. Is it the harness or a cable? Does anyone know the name/brand of the XM ready radio in the 2006 Ridgeline?

I'll throw my hat in too. I just bought a 2006 RTS with 22000 miles. I didn't test the radio when I drove it but the first day out it did what everyone described. Volumn jumps up and down over bumpy roads but only in AM mode. Makes me wonder if there is a seperate AM antenna that has a tendency to get loose. Anyway, it goes in tomorrow. Hope the know enough to stock these now.

Mine also has the AM crackles; last week I took it in and they had ordered the harness from the thread I had printed here. However they said that it didn't fit??? They then found a notice, not a TSB but something like it I guess and they ordered the coaxial cable fix mentioned earlier here. Having it installed Monday, I'll report back.

Sheet... page... I get it

I live in Arlington back in 1990 for about a year. Right over by Ranger Stadium. Nice place, but too crowded... kinda like where I live now :(
