I have a 2006 Ridgeline with 5200 miles and the approx.
1"X3" LCD display that has the odometers and TPMS indications has gone blank. Took it to my dealer and they stated they had not seen this particular problem before. They verified that power was getting to the display and of course had to order parts. Since I had not seen this particular problem addressed on here before I thought I'd let everyone know about it.

I noticed a small dark spot in the "background" of that display in my truck about a week after I picked it up. It's since spread to encompass the entire outside temperature display area and the first 2 digits of the odometer. It's noticeable more at night when the backlighting makes it more obvious, but it hasn't gone blank (yet?). Did you notice anything similar?

You could try the gauge diagnostic sequence to see if there is any life there at all.

I promise this isn't a wind up - http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=32933&postcount=65

I have the same issue but sometimes my display will come back and sometimes it displays garbage characters. I notice bumps will cause it to freak out.

I plan to take it to the dealer this next week for them but of course they will need it for the whole day etc etc.

Let me know how you make out and I will post my exp as well.

When I run the test I get "Error 2" in the display. Anyone know where to find the list of the error codes?

I have not made an appointment yet as they need the truck for the whole day or so they say.

Thanks

Glen

I have exactly the same problem, just did not mention it to the dealer yet. Mine goes blank once in a while and usually when I start the truck up in the morning. The quick and temporarily fix I use is to shut the truck off, lock the truck and watch the security light on the drivers door blinking - it will blink fast for some time and then will slow down to its normal pace. Then I unlock the truck, open drivers door, start it up and the display works. I don't have to get out of the truck to do the procedure. I know it does not fix the problem but at least I don't have to stress out on the way to work.

I found this in the RL service manual. "If the word "Error 2" is indicated, there is a malfunction in the communication line between the gauge control module and the body-controller area network (B-CAN). Go to the B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A (see page 22-100). (B1155-B1160)

Going to that page, it lists a whole lot of tests done by the technician with their computer plugged into your truck. Reading what they are looking at in their various information and diagnosis screens, there doesn't appear to be much opportunity for self-diagnosis at this point.

Running the diagnostic routine is probably the only time any of us will see our Ridgeline hit 140mph. :)

my display as also messed up. took it to the dealership last thursday and they were like we have never seen this problem before. but anyways they ended up ordering a gauge cluster for it. it just came today so tomorrow i have to set up a time to get it fixed. they said they would put a sticker in it stating the speedo had been changed. i have approx. 10300 miles on her. i wonder if this affect the resale value any? oh yeah mine also goes blank then sometimes displays garbage. seems to cycle then maybe it will come up to the stuff its supposed to display. going by some of the responses here i wonder if this is going to be a reacurring problem.

Your dealer sounds a little clueless. The Service Manual includes specific instruction on how to change the gauge cluster and upload the odometer information to it. I would make sure that you get it done properly if I was you. Refer them to page 22-267 of the manual.

1. Before replacing the gauge control module, connecte the HDS to the data link connector.

2. Select GAUGES from the BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SELECT menu display.

3. Select "GAUGE CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT (ODO rewrite)" from the ADJUSTMENT MENU, and follow the instructions on the display to retrieve the ODO value.

4. Replace the gauge control module.

5. Follow the instructions on the diaply to write the new ODO value to the new gauge control module.

I had mine replaced shortly after I got the truck due to a flaw in the LCD and they were able to reset exatly the mileage I had on the original speedo. So as Lingered I states, there is most certainly a way to swap them without the headache of an odometer disclosure form in your future.

Ok here is my update on the garbled display. They said they had never seen this before...seems to be a pattern in this forum.

Ending up ordering a new display. Meanwhile I am driving the Accord while waiting for the part to come in.

Hope this resolves the issue once and for all.
