Sport Trac getting more like Ridgeline but not as good

I thought this review about the new Sport Trac was interesting because it keeps saying the Sport Trac isn't as good as the Ridgeline.

The Sport Trac can't match the Ridgeline's marvelously useful trunk and spacious interior.

The Ridgeline offers a larger passenger compartment --112 cubic feet versus the Sport Trac's 106.1. Most of the additional space comes in head and shoulder room.

The Ridgeline's rear seat has a handy foldaway bottom cushion, providing enough interior space for a mountain bike.
The Sport Trac's flat-folding rear seat provides less storage space...

The Ridgeline's big wins all come in its bed, which is 6 inches longer and much more useful than the Sport Trac's. The Honda has a nifty double-hinged tailgate that opens either down or to the side, providing easy access to cargo and the cooler-sized 8.5 cubic-foot trunk under the pickup bed.

Fuel economy for V6 and V8 is very competitive. The 292-horsepower 4 by 4 I drove achieved 14 m.p.g. in the city and 20 m.p.g. on the highway in EPA tests. That compares to 16 and 21 m.p.g. for the smaller and less powerful Ridgeline.
Sport Trac gets more like Heralded Ridgeline but Still not as Good. (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060706/BUSINESS02/607060376/-1/BUSINESS07)

Well, that is a very different report of the MPG for the ST V8 than I have been hearing. Most reports say you are lucky to get 12 in the city with the ST with the V8 and 17 is good mileage on the highway.

Im gonna be honest, that is quite possibly the worst review I've ever read. Maybe I'm mad because I happen to like my truck, but that review seemed pretty damn buyest against any outside US company competetor, the Ridge beats that piece of junk on level after level, something tells me the guy hates the Ridge or has never even been in one. Whoever hired that guy to do care reviews should be smacked around for hiring such a buyest fool. Probably because he is from Detroit... get a clue guy, Hondas are better. Another thing, I think it's safe to say that the Ridge has that new thing beat on sales by a long shot. Not only did it push into the market, but it took it over. Theres a reason why ford decided to add its poor excuse for an in-bed storage system... one word RIDGELINE. Bottom line is that guy needs a good education in what a good truck is... its obvious he has no idea.

I thought this review about the new Sport Trac was interesting because it keeps saying the Sport Trac isn't as good as the Ridgeline. You must have read a different review than I did because the guy was obviously bragging on the Sport Trac and how it will keep dominance in the segment over the Ridgeline. The new truck is at least as good as the heralded Honda Ridgeline four-door pickup that tried to cut into Sport Trac's territory when it went on sale last year. The 2007 Explorer Sport Trac has its shortcomings, but its many improvements will delight owners of the old model, and should be good enough for it to remain the leader as the Ridgeline and other new trucks try to horn into the market Ford created six years ago.
the Ford's interior is much quieter and more refined, and the Sport Trac's optional V8 engine and greater towing capacity give it the edge in other areas.
I agree that where they did the side-by-side comparisons, the Ridgeline easily won, but the summary the author gave (as I quoted some above) shows his obvious bias to the Ford.

I also read it the same way......

Yeah. Mark Phelan seems awfully angry that the Ridgeline is "horning" in on the Sport Trac market it "invented". I disagree because the Ridgeline seems to have defined it's own market segment and now the new Sport Trac is trying to horn in on it by making the Sport Trac more car like and less "Sporty".

You're right that Phelan is blantantly biased towards the Sport Trac.
I thought it interesting that an article arguing that the Sport Trac was as good as the Ridgeline couldn't come up with much where Phelan thought the Sport Trac was as good or "better". A V-8 with worse milage to me is not better. "More refined" interior? maybe.

So I thought it would be fun to write a biased review of his biased review. So I biased my review by ignoring the few areas where he claimed the Sport Trac beat the Ridgeline and used the quotes where he admitted that the Ridgeline was better.
