Tailgate locks

Hello to all fellow readers,

I'm looking for a secure lock for my tailgate that works with my remote. I've found two: one from Dynolock.com & the other from basickoncepts.com. Basickoncepts offers a combo lock; manual & electric, and Dynolock sells 2 electric locks.
I want to know if anybody has installed any one of these locks or even done a comparison. I'm considering the combo lock from basickoncept, because it comes with a manual unlocking key. If I go with the Dynolock, and my battery goes dead I guess I wouldn't be able to access my trunk to retrieve my jumper cables since the Dynolock operates on power.
If anybody could give me any info I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance....................

Re: Basickoncepts

You might want to take a read at their forum in the sponsor section of the ROC. I have not purchased their products but apparently many others have.

I just installed the dynolock electric lock. Basickoncepts was a lock I considered but was dismayed with their poor customer service as conveyed in various threads. Ordered on Tuesday, had it by Saturday. The drawback of both locks is how they achieve a locked condition--essentially by jamming the mechanism and preventing movement of the release handles. If you pull hard enough, the handles will likely break, or, as another poster noted, the tab of the release mechanism that the lock interferes with will bend and cause an unlocked state. But, no other choices at this point.
The install of the actual lock was easy; Dynolock instructions had the wiring going under the truck and coming up into the cab within the left center pillar near where you tap into the wiring. I chose to run the wire as suggested for the rear camera, within the left bed wall. More to take apart but I felt like playing around and the finished product works fine. Now, if I ever get a bed cover...actually just ordered the Bakflip.

The Dyno lock is like the basickoncepts old version of locks. I spoke with someone over at basickoncepts on this and they said that the Dyno lock will work but can fail if tampered with correctly. From what I hear basickoncepts is a one man show but I got my lock in good time from them and installed it. It works great.

Don't actually doubt this as the lock was apparently redesigned, but...I'm not surprised Basickoncepts bashed dynolock...
