For those not going to the RidgeRun

For those not attending the RIdgeRun, why are you not going? & what do you plan on doing instead?

Myself:

I am not going because:

1) Vacation time for this year already allotted, or used up. However vacation time is so precious i doubt i would have burned some days on this event anyway.
2) Very pregnant wife, I will be taking her to the Bratfest in Wisconsin the next weekend, but she will hang out @ the hotel, and the Kohler factory store, out of the heat, and off her feet.

Things I will be doing instead:

1) Mowing the lawn
2) painting the babys room (baby girl due 3rd week of Oct.)
3) the usual home ownership chores.
4) grilling like a madman,beer in hand

Sounds like a fun event for those going. Shows dedication to your vehicle, and the club.

Other than the fact that it's about 800 miles from here to there, I have a pressing appointment about halfway up the country to empty out a dorm room & get offspring home for a couple of weeks before I have to go back up the country & move everything into another dorm.

I think it would be easier to just rent her an apartment, except the sorority requires her to live on campus. <sigh>

djeaux,

I figured the mileage/distance issue was probably a major factor to many of those not going.

Ohio isnt really that centrally located in the bigpicture. Maybe St. Louis, or K.C., may be more of a mid point to involve the West....

Like I said it seems like it will be fun for those attending, it looks as if the organizers have spent alot of time/effort on this.

I'm gonna hear about it for this I'm sure.... but the main reason we aren't going: just picture tens of thousands of Honda motorcycle owners within about a 75 mile radius. I used to live near Daytona and saw enough during Bike Weeks to know that I don't want to be anywhere near tens of thousands of bikers ever again. No offense intended to those of you who may be responsible motorcyclists.

That on top of limited vacation time basically made it a no go.

Instead I hope to be at least 60 feet underwater somewhere even if it is just in a midwestern quarry. (with SCUBA gear, so don't get any ideas those of you that were offended above! LOL!)

I agree chisoxjim, so I'll probably spend the time wishing I could have gone. Far too many family obligations here.

I know I don't have anywhere near the daily commute you have, so luckily I can get my lawnwork done during the week. Thank God I don't have that job staring at me this weekend.

jsant,

I try to mow some areas 2x a week, the front, and the quicker growing areas. makes the weekend cutting very easy, and I can move quick without grass clumps etc. This week it rained alot, so the sun wasnt out growing the grass as much..

This weekend, other than mowing Sat. a.m.,.. a crib for the baby, and purchase the paint for her room.

I have to work during that time. Vacation time in July is very sought-after amongst my partners, especially those guys with school-aged kids.

Plus it would be one heck of a drive from Melbourne,FL.

I would really like to go. Sounds like a great trip. Several things enter into the picture that keeps me home. Too far, too hot, $3.00 gas, and board bills at the vet. When I weigh the pros and cons, guess I better stay at home. Still looking for a meet closer to home!!!!!

I'm not sure who you'll hear it from  but I've beat you up enough, so I'll let it go.
BUT next time you may not be so lucky.

I wonder how many of the ohio folks would be attending if the meet was in say Denver, or Kansas City?

Come on be honest... Would you go if a 600-800 mile trip was in front of you?

nkyridge,

up in Kohler Wisconsin. very close to Sheboygen, WI. about 45 mins norht of Milwaukee...

The fixture maker Kohler, basically has an old company town/factory up there. And the only 5 Star rated hotel in Wisconsin the American Club.

The bathroom fixtures they use throughout the property are awesome, I made the mistake of bringing the wife up here, and promised she could buy some things on our next visit...

are you going tomorrow?

We wouldn't come because there is no other place like Ohio on earth and we never leave it. Paradise left is paradise lost. There is a lot in Ohio and we have something here that you will not find anywhere else, the best college football team that God ever allowed man on earth to assemble, The Ohio State Buckeyes. If you ain't from here, you just don't understand.

Seriously though, I don't think that I would drive any further than one state away for a meet. I am RL gung ho but not that gung ho.

The Mrs and I don't tend to do too much travelling. Pool out back, big deck, grill, cable and beer/soda fridge full. I don't think it gets much better than that!!

I was planning to come, even took time off of work.

However, being 30 weeks pregnant at the time of the meet is not a good time to travel that far :(

I hope that all have a great time and take lots of pics!

I can't go because TEDRIDGE won't be there. He's afraid I'll beat him if we race.

I think I am going to stay home and have a drink with Lady Ridge Bear. :D

LOL, LadyRidge.

I am not going because of an annual thing I have been doing since the age of about 14....which happens to be the same weekend as the Ridge Run. I started playing in a golf tournament with my dad about 26 years ago and I have only missed one tournament in all that time. My dad passed away about 7 years ago, so since then, I have been golfing with my brothers. I only see my bros about 2 times a year, so it's kind of a get-together for us, and a chance for us to hang out, play a little golf, and drink a little beer (OK...maybe a lot of beer! :D ) Plus, my family comes along, we take a week or so of vacation and go camping and sight seeing and that kind of thing in the good ol' UP of MI.

So, while I would love to go, just ain't in the cards. Maybe next time!

How many remember Woody Hayes? The time he tackled an opposing player as he was running down the side line in front of the Ohio State bench is an all time classic. I was watching the game on TV that day.

If I admit to knowing who Woody Hayes is, do I get a prize or just an eyebrow raised and the comment, 'You're THAT old?". :D

Go Bucks!! ( They grow into great Steelers  )

Well, aside from not wanting to drive accross PA and parts of Ohio... I have to attend the annual Firehouse Expo in Baltimore. Largest firefighters convention out there. Its a great way to spend a weekend in a beautiful section of the city. Firefighting/EMS stuff always takes priority in my books.

We're not coming because it would be a 4,900 mile round trip and that's just a tad on the long side for a weekend trip. I hope all the attendees have a great time, but then how can they not?

It's too far and we've got a Ridgeline meet here in Utah on Sat. July 29th. I'm sad I won't be there to party with the big group but I'm looking forward to meeting the folks in my area that I've been communicating with on the forums. If you haven't committed to come, it's not too late to join us if the drive is reasonable for you. No advance reservations necessary for our meet. See ya Saturday! :D

I had full intentions. Thought it would be a fun road trip but the fact that I have to work Friday and Monday, it just makes for way to much driving in a short amount of time. Plus, the Mrs wasn't really excited losing me for yet another weekend. I guess given the meets I do go to, the amount of weekend time I spend with my truck, the fact I work almost every weekend as well as my 50 hours during the week, it's just too much for me to go. Truly bummed I'm not but sometimes, just sometimes we can't get to do "ALL" that we want... I do have a cool New England meet high atop Mt Washington to look forward to though...:D

weekend is here, for me missing the meet is not a big deal, nor did I wring my hands over not going. I said before maybe if it wasnt in Ohio I would have thought about going, and about rearranging my schedule... (nothing against Ohio, but Ive already been there once or twice, lookin to go other places before I return.)

Looking forward to the mercury edging above 100 with 60% humidity.. Bring on the heat... I love summer...

I will be mowing the lawn tomorrow for 3 hours, and then go to a festival in Seneca, the next town over. ill probably finish up listening to the White Sox game on my deck...

Also hooking up my new Dell computer that came today, gotta get a desk @ Ikea also.

Lastly, painting the babies room has to get done.,..October is coming fast....

All in all a full, and fun weekend I wouldnt trade for anything...

Enjoy the weekend everyone.
