View Full Version : Impulse Buy?

I had a long solo drive this past weekend and I was reflecting back on my purchase. I bought my Ridgeline in February after a major car wreck took my previous car. I spent less than a week shopping for a car and thought I'd made my mind up.

My mind was set on another vehicle, well that was until I drove the Ridgeline. I wasn't even considering anything in the pickup or pickup crossover family.

I test drove the Ridgeline and was pleasantly surprised with it's power, handling, features and comfort. All in all it seemed like a good choice. I then drove 3 or 4 other non-Hondas that night. Each was okay in it's own right but didn't match up to the overall features, presentation and package of the Ridgeline. The crossover Escalades and Avalanches while the predecessor to the Ridgeline didn't have the same appeal.

Within 24 hours I was back at the dealer with a check in hand. I did as much research as I could do in the time I had, but I did make a quick decision.

In the end I think that even though it was a snap decision that I made the right choice.

Even if I'd paid a few thousand more, I still feel as though I'd have gotten a good deal.

The fact you went and drove other vehicles after looking at the RL indicates you didn't buy on impulse...at least not completely on impulse.

Throught the years, all the cars I have bought on impulse, I have been very happy with. The cars that I put lots of thought and research into, I ended up not liking. Does that make any sense? Now, I'm in the process of buying a Ridgeline.

It always takes me 3 to 8 months before I make a purchase over $500.00....I research it to death then I test drive and check and tweak....then some more research.....until my wife litterally drags me to the store and twists my arm to buy it...ha:rolleyes:

I spent 7 months researching pickups with crewcab. I spent many hours pouring over the data and reading, test drove 6 differnt trucks. Then I landed on the ridgeline as my final. Great choice a friend went and bought one the day after I did because figured I would make most logical choice

I guess I do a large amount of subliminal reasoning over a long period of time and then find out I just bought a replacement car/truck. The salesman was puzzled when I wouldn't allow any time for him to sell me my RL. I did my "buying" over the internet and walked into the dealer with our agreed price/package. Signed the papers, picked up the RL the next day, got into a RL for the first time and saw what was under the hood the following day when a friend wanted to see what was under there. I owned 2 Honda Accords in the late 70's and early 80's and both were very good investments. My wife has an Acura and I am "surrounded" by Honda information about everything from autos to motorcycles, to motorscooters, to generators to . . . . etc. All this percolated up one day to buying a new vehicle to replace my very old and tired Ford Ranger. People who know me well were not surprised because they know I don't buy on impulse. But I was a little surprised at myself as maybe the original poster of this thread is of himself.

When I bought mine last year, I had only seen two pic. on TV. I went by my local Honda dealer and pulled in to see one in person. The sellsman asked me if I wanted to test drive and my repley was if its a Honda it drives great just get the papers. In less than 45 mins., no test drive I left in my truck of the Year Honda Ridgeling. That was an Impulse buy. ;)

We have always been loyal Ford owners, going back to the time when as a kid I was riding on the backseat of my parent's Ford Orion. Once we immigrated to the U.S., the first thing we bought was a Ford Explorer, we literally bought it the next morning after we had arrived. It was used, with 120,000 miles, which was all we could afford, but it had to be an SUV (something that did not even exist in my home country). We paid cash (had no checking account yet), and I still remember how the sales guy checked each bill with some pen to see if it was counterfeit.

Fast forward to this year. My wife was looking to replace her Ford Focus with something bigger, preferably a minivan to lug around our daughter, friends, stroller etc. Turns out that Ford makes good trucks and cars, but their minivan is a joke. So when our friends showed us their new Honda Odyssey, we checked it out and were amazed how well it was built and how good the ride was. So off to the Honda dealer...where I discovered the Ridgeline.

I'll spare you the events and discussions of the next two weeks, but two weeks later I was driving my Ridgeline, while my wife still has the Ford Focus...Lest you feel sorry for my wife, yes she will get her Odyssey later this year, and the Focus has much less miles anyway than my Explorer had. She said just go ahead and buy it so I can get some quiet and we can cross off your midlife crisis...

Our cars and trucks always had been just transportation to me, trusted and dear, but still utilitarian. Now it's all different. That's what the Ridgeline does to you. :)

I was like "GeorgiaRidge" . I saw, test drove, and within an hour, I traded my 2000 CR-V and drove off with my Ridgeline. Now 16 months later I love my Ridgeline even more. Over the years I have owned Dodge, Ford and Chevy trucks, the Ridgeline has been the best so far for me. Just hope that everyone enjoys their Ridgeline as much as I do mine. :) :D :)
