Where's the ridgester in you???? LOL just havin' fun. :D BannedUser 08-02-2006, 07:49 PM OMG..I had a 67....bought it in 86 to haul my kids and their friends around. ( I had 1981 Cadi Coupe DeVille 4/6/8 and saw her leather wearing fast due to too many kids ) I paid $300.00 for it, it lasted 3 weeks and the motor blew up!! But I sure loved drivin' that bus. It was AWESOME!! :D bonerep 08-02-2006, 08:20 PM Hey I had one too. Built in a bed in the back with 4 speakers and a 8 track stero player. Port holes on the side. I also had " The Doo- Dah Room" painted on the side after Nick Danger 3rd eye. Wow a lot of great memories....... djeaux 08-02-2006, 09:10 PM Just for the record, that's a 1970 Kombi. Bought it in 1974 for $2200 as a "certified used car" at the local VW dealership. For those who mentioned the '67, I've always regarded that year as the primo VW bus: the last year for the split window body but with the 1600cc engine & IRS of the 2nd generation Type II. arteegee 08-02-2006, 10:13 PM For those who mentioned the '67, I've always regarded that year as the primo VW bus: the last year for the split window body but with the 1600cc engine & IRS of the 2nd generation Type II. And with a stroker kit, quite a little wheelstander.:eek:After a little trip down memory lane, I should add it helps to have a skinny teenage driver. RF4B Driver 08-03-2006, 02:52 AM I also had one of those babies and took Bonnie Raite to a "Jay Giles" concert in Worcester Mass in 1972 in the thing. She was a nobody at the time, but a great date, if you know what I'm sayin. steveberger 08-03-2006, 05:48 AM Lets see an updated photo. Same pose, updated truck and haircut! BillB 08-03-2006, 11:39 AM also had one of those babies and took Bonnie Raite to a "Jay Giles" concert in Worcester Mass in 1972 in the thing. She was a nobody at the time, but a great date, if you know what I'm sayin. Are you sayin that seeing Magic Dick and his Lickin Stick had more than one meaning for you at the concert? arteegee 08-03-2006, 11:44 AM Bonnie was never a "nobody." She has sang backup behind some of the greatest and plays slide like Duane Allman reincarnated. It was the sexual revolution, free love and all that. I hope everyone was "getting more tail than Sinatra..." RF4B Driver 08-03-2006, 04:02 PM She was a "nobody" on the national scene. What a sweetheart. We also went to see Mississippi Fred McDowell (bottleneck Guitar) and Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry, all of whom were big Heroin addicts at the time. All in Worcester MA. What great days. Cajun Country Ridgeline 08-03-2006, 04:34 PM That VW Bus brings back memories. I had a 1969 Blue/white and then a 1971 Red/White VW. The kids loved the bus. We kept the 1971 until 1977. Great fun to drive and could carry a TON of stuff.:) :) djeaux 08-04-2006, 10:08 AM Lets see an updated photo. Same pose, updated truck and haircut! Well, if I wear a cowboy hat, you don't get the full effect of the updated haircut (or lack of need for a haircut)! Off to comb my hair with a sponge... djeaux 08-04-2006, 10:14 AM Just want to add that I'm amused (but not surprised) at how many RL owners had VW busses at one point in the past. I see a few parallels between the two vehicles: outstanding engineering, very good production quality, offbeat & unusual appearance, LOTS of room, etc. And I see a lot of differences. For example, I haven't yet had to adjust the timing advance on my Ridge (any other VW-veterans remember the 5-degree advance mantra), I haven't had to adjust for stretch in the 200-foot-long clutch cable, and I haven't had a single trooper pull me over & start yanking the panels off the doors! And I don't miss ignition points a bit! We used to have a saying that when checking out a used VW bus to look for footprints on the headliner over the bed. If there were footprints there, the bus had good vibes. Good vibes could be more important than good compression to some folks, but I did believe in checking compression, too ;) djeaux 08-04-2006, 10:15 AM I am DETERMINED to get 100 posts today! :D arteegee 08-04-2006, 10:19 AM I am DETERMINED to get 100 posts today! :D You are well on your way.:) | |
