utvnut 05-05-2005, 08:13 AM I saw a Ridgeline with three pin stripes, it looked great but it was sold when I went back with a camera. I went to my dealer and they only have two stripes. He put 2 silver on my blue truck. (See photo)
See how high they are? He said that was to avoid the gas door but others I saw here seem to be at the line on the body lower about 3 inches, so here's the question:
Do mine look too high to all of you Ridgeline fans? I thnk they are but then they start to look OK.
Thanks
maybearidge 05-05-2005, 08:27 AM yes...too high. It should be where the highlight of the crease meets the shadow below. I would like to get some on mine, but I was thinking of what subtle color I could use with Black and a tan interior...I want something barely there.
utvnut 05-05-2005, 08:33 AM Thanks for the quick reply! I will gather a few more votes before driving 30 miles to the dealer for replacement ones.
They have Charcoal and a couple of tan/beige ones that would look good on black if you want to accent the interior. Or silver looks great on black too.
Dnucci 05-05-2005, 08:47 AM I would agree. The pinstripes need to be at the transition. But then again, I am not a big fan of pinstripes.
maybearidge 05-05-2005, 08:49 AM yeah...I'm not that big of a fan of pinstripes either. On the Ridgeline, I think it helps the thick sides of the truck a bit though.
BannedUser 05-05-2005, 09:05 AM I like the pins but I do kind of think yours may be a bit too high!! :o
Stereolab 05-05-2005, 09:27 AM Yeah, I agree. Pinstripe should be just above crease and yes, go right through gas door. I'm trying to decide on just what color I'll be getting on my Amazon Green RTL. I'm thinking of a VERY light green almost white or possibly silver. Thoughts?
STEREOLAB
BannedUser 05-05-2005, 09:34 AM I've seen the silver on the amazon green...nice!!!!!
ridge4me2 05-05-2005, 11:14 AM The only place a may look a tad too high is on the doors, front and rear fendors look good! I'd say leave it alone unless it really bothers you; I think they look great.
shovelhd 05-05-2005, 11:39 AM I think they look great. On my truck I plan on having them striped just under the crease, like JulesK's truck. I've had a bit of a setback due to the wreck, but I figure 60 days or so.
hagerswami 05-05-2005, 12:01 PM I think the pin stripe looks fine, but normally it should run run from the top corner edge of the headlight straight back to the rear through the gas door. Like the other post, however, it looks fine. Don't change unless you just can't stand it. :)
hwbobk 05-05-2005, 03:41 PM Are these tape stripes or painted on? Im not sure I would want the dealer to muck with my truck if they were painted on. I work at a dealer and believe me I know!
utvnut 05-06-2005, 08:25 AM OK, Moved the stripes. They use a hair dryer to release the glue and peel them off. The new ones are at the break of the body.
I even got it accross the tailgate.
BannedUser 05-06-2005, 08:27 AM Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Nice work. I doubt that I would have been able to get them so straight.
hagerswami 05-06-2005, 09:44 PM Very nice, I liked them the other way, just kidding :D . Did a great job.
AHart 05-06-2005, 10:24 PM IMO they look a lot better where they are now.
utvnut 05-07-2005, 04:36 PM Thanks everyone, I really like them now too.
Stereolab 05-07-2005, 06:19 PM I like that they now wrap around the back end. I cannot tell from the picture... does the side stripe follow along the top of the tail light or does it stop just before?
utvnut 05-07-2005, 07:28 PM Right now they stop just above the tail lights, the sides were done before I asked him to do the tailgate. Monday I'm going back to pick up my plates and I'm going to have him continue the bend around over the taillights to line up with the back.
johnr602 05-16-2005, 08:58 PM Yes, they look too high.
shortspark 05-17-2005, 05:17 AM At first, they looked too high on your truck but were not offensive by any means. Now, they look even better. They are exactly where mine are placed. The dealer threw in the pin stripes as a good will gesture. Although I probably would not have ordered them, I did not refuse a free gift and now I'm really glad I have them. I think they really enhance the looks and lines even though they are quite narrow (I have two stripes). With me it was a no brainer as to color - nothing but black pin stripes on a silver RTL!
Nicholas 05-17-2005, 07:13 AM Liked the look of your pin stripes I decided to try it also... and yes, across the tailgate too. Mine are "color shifter" type, blue and in the right light, a soft green on a silver Ridgeline. Total cost was $53.70 and took less then a half hour at a local custom shop. You can't believe how a simple set of thin pin stripes really enhance a vehicle if done right!!!
bellteck 05-17-2005, 07:20 PM Little high for me but im not a big pinstripe lover. I like them better on your color truck than mine ( white ).
Good lookin Ridge though !! :D
ridged 07-22-2005, 05:41 AM Are these tape stripes or painted on? Im not sure I would want the dealer to muck with my truck if they were painted on. I work at a dealer and believe me I know!
Mine has factory stripes (as far as I know) and they are tape. Yesterday was my first wax job, where one gets an opportunity to discover minor flaws, and I noticed that the stripe on the passenger door has a seam! WTF? Why didn't they start over at the edge of the door when they ran out of tape? This is plain wrong and I'm surprised that Honda's quality control department would allow it out the door.
Furtunately, it isn't unbearable and I didn't find anything worse to complain about. :)

shovelhd 07-22-2005, 06:32 AM Pinstripes aren't a factory option. Have your dealer redo the tape.

Thanks shovelhd. I'll bring it up on my next visit. Boy, based on my experience and putting aside my complaint, they sure look like factory stripes.
I was thinkin' about replacing the stripes anyway. They are silver on white but I am considering blue stripes (thin blue line(s), related to my profession). I wonder if blue pinstripes on a white truck with olive interior is a color pickin' faux pas. :p
Toobuku 07-22-2005, 08:39 AM OK, Moved the stripes. They use a hair dryer to release the glue and peel them off. The new ones are at the break of the body.
I even got it accross the tailgate.
That looks much better!
Ridge Runner 07-22-2005, 02:10 PM I too have pin stripes, no problem so far. They are tape not painted on. I have a White RT/L and have red pin with a HONDA "H" at the rear of each side. Looks pretty neat, I think.
Ridgelude 07-22-2005, 02:16 PM Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, VA pinstripes all their Honda vehicles. Both our Ridgeline and Pilot are pin striped.
Kellcut 07-22-2005, 03:44 PM I definitely like the lower stripes better.
I think I'll leave mine without, primarily because my TrailBlazer had pinstripes and they started cracking and peeling. Ugh.
My Civic had them too, and when I had to get a fender replaced, they forgot the stripe at first. I looked at the car, walked inside and said - hey shouldn't there be a stripe there? They did it and it looked great.
beemr 07-22-2005, 05:51 PM I added a three-stripe pinstripe to my steel blue Ridgeline. The top stripe is black and the two smaller stripes are silver. I bought the pinstriping at a local autopaint supply store - about $40 for a 75 ft. roll (plenty left over for re-do's if necessary).
Here's some pictures of the pinstriping including a closup near the front door handle. I chose to put the pinstripe just below the body "ridge" line. This worked well when the pinstripe merged with the front and rear turnlights. I also continued the strip across the tailgate. I think it really adds to the "look"

Yep, mine has the Honda "H" too (over the door handles). That's what made me think that they were factory stripes.

Looks good Beemr, Yet another ROC'er showing the way for us do-it-yourselfer's .
5S Dude 07-29-2005, 04:15 PM Are the pinstripes painted on or are they the decal type? Looks good to me!
Godskid 08-03-2005, 06:50 PM How in the world do you get them so straight??
I was going to ask the same question.
Looks very good.
beemr 08-05-2005, 07:16 PM The trick to getting them straight is picking the correct starting point and then adhering just enough of the tape at the starting point to hold against a slight tension as you continue. Then you unroll enough of the pin striping tape to do the full run (from front to back) and sight down the pinstripe material while putting a little tension on the tape and gently laying it down on the desired location. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get it lined up just right. Initially the pinstripe tape is just barely adhered so it is possible to lift it off and re-align it if necessary. If you bought a large roll you can even redo a stretch if it doesn't look right.
Using a continuous run covers the gaps in the doors (and gas cap lid) - so you have to trim the tape about 1/4 inch back from each seam with small sharp scissors or an exacto knife. If you use a knife, don't cut against the paint because it will leave a mark on the finish. Do the gap trimming only after you are happy with the overall "line" of the pinstripe on the vehicle - and after you have initially pressed down the tape. After trimming the seams you can then remove the clear layer that holds the pinstripes. Use a soft cloth to adhere the tape again and you are done!
Remebmer that the big trick is to be comfortable lining up a long stetch of the pinstripe tape by sighting down the lightly tensioned tape as you lay it down on the desired location on the Rideliine.
Hope this helps
My Ridge looks exactly the same (including colors and placement). Had the local Tint shop do it for $28 when they did the windows.

Try a different shade of Black!
Truckin' 12-27-2005, 11:50 PM I was just prowling around tonight and came across this thread when I saw that several guests were lurking here. I hadn't looked at this particular thread before. I think it's because we didn't put a lot of thought or discussion into getting the pin stripes. It was something that grabbed us the day we met Sam and we have loved our pin stripes ever since. I'm just adding my link to this thread, as I have a long explanation and lots of photos on the thread I made about our pin stripes.
http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2721&highlight=stripes
Our stripes are wide and bold and flashy. There are plenty of people who are going to hate them. For us, it just makes our pretty truck even prettier. I love when the sun gives it a bold gold line. I like to walk around and see the colors change. It's good to see the colors come out again after gloomy weather, which leaves it a silvery color.
We like how it accentuates the illusion that the truck is painted a two tone color.
If it's not your thing, stay plain. We decided to go bold.
farmguy 12-28-2005, 02:21 AM Thanks for bumpin', Truckin'
It's been a while since the pin stripes threads were up top. Here is another with some tips:
http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=30870&postcount=1
I still plan on striping my white RT.... I'm on my 3rd mock-up. The wider stripes like yours are definitely the way to go, I think. I started with double thinner stripes, but they just disappear on that big truck when you stand back. I'm up to 1/4" + 1/8", total width 1/2" and thinking of going even bigger.
Enjoyed seein' your colors again !!
Truckin' 12-28-2005, 07:13 PM Thank you, farmguy. It's good to hear there's at least one more person out there that likes the wide stripe. Sam would have cut it any width we wanted it. I'd never had stripes added before, but that width just looked right to me and the thin black underneath finished it off.
Cajun Country Ridgeline 12-28-2005, 08:05 PM I was fortunate that my Ridge was in Texas before a swap with my dealer in La. They had an detailer at that dealership which does free hand pinstrips.
I think he did an excellent job on my silver Ridgeline.
It is in Silver Grey/Black and note he printed "Ridgeline" as part of the total
stripe.
Steve Smith 12-28-2005, 09:39 PM The 1st add-on I did to my blue RT was to pull it into my shop and stripe it. I went with a pewter metallic dual stripe and followed the body's feature line (crease)as did others. I however, went COMPLETELY around the entire truck.I just continued the stripe across the bottom lip of the hood.
Truckin' 12-28-2005, 09:43 PM Take some pics and show us. That sounds interesting. We have the air deflector, so it was a natural to cut at the headlights. It also was a natural to go across the tailgate.
Cajun Country Ridgeline 12-29-2005, 01:40 PM Will try this again. Last time I posted the ROC sticker instead of the pinstrips that came with the Ridgeline. Note the detailer printed "Ridgeline" on the back panel of the pinstrips. They were gray/black.
Cajun Country Ridgeline 12-29-2005, 04:19 PM One more Time! I wanted to show some Free Hand painting of Pinstrips
that was done by a Dealer in Port Arthur, TX.
Notice, He put in the "RIDGELINE" Towards the rear of the truck. It is gray/black with black letters. Very Nice!
Nicholas 12-29-2005, 06:35 PM OK, she has a nice looking truck (maybe I'm just basis), at least two cats, (bachelor's rule #4 If she has over three cats inside ... RUN!!!), now the question is ... is she single??? Just teasing Cajun!!!:)
ridgeln 12-29-2005, 08:03 PM Nick, hope your lady in Florida doesn't read the ROC - you'd be in trouble! :D
Love the pin stripes - saw a couple Ridgelines at the ROC @ the Rock in November, and it's gotten me thinking - but I may go more of the graphics route, too. So many great choices!!!!!

Nicholas 12-30-2005, 02:47 AM Hi Ridglen! Heading to Florida this evening for the weekend. Not looking anymore, was just teasing Cajun (or at least I hope she realizes that). Took me too long to find what I was looking for...don't want to loose her.:o
ridgeln 12-30-2005, 10:51 AM Hi Nicholas -
have a SAFE trip to Florida - long trip, lots of idiots out there. Be careful (but of course, after seeing what you carry in your trunk, I know you will be!)
Give her an extra hug (I know, no encouragement needed there) from all your pals at the ROC. Have a Happy New Year!

Cajun Country Ridgeline 01-06-2006, 07:33 PM Thankyou for the compliments on the pinstrips. They were done by a Dealer
in Port Arthur TX. It is my understanding that he does it Freehand.

It's refreshing to have someone presumed female than to always assume we're all male, don't you think, UglyTruckling? I like it. One can check the Male or Female thread for those of us who have voted. It could blow our disguise though.
Dktahg 01-10-2006, 07:50 PM I had the same guy doing the pinstripe for the dealer to do mine for about 1/3 the price the dealer charges. I will post the unique pinstripe pic shortly. But, this guy was putting nothing but silver pinstripe on all the trucks. Well, that just wouldn't look good on my Amazon green truck. So I got a gold color that would accent the gold flake appearance in the green paint. Then, 1 inch text saying Ridgeline aligned in the pinstripe with the stripe cut away for the text. The guy had an idea of wrapping around the tailgate, but I opted for it to stop at the tail light.
Truckin' 01-10-2006, 10:10 PM That sounds fabulous. I can't wait to see the pics.
BIGGUY 01-11-2006, 12:33 PM Ran into my pin stripe man last Friday. He told us we will have the only RL in our area with Rainbow Pearl pin stripe. So we've got a one of a kind.:D :D :D
Dktahg 01-12-2006, 09:37 AM 45844583
Here it is. The dealership was only having the guy put on 1/2 inch letters. But, I thought those were too small. These are 1 inch letters. You could imagine how hard it would be to read that if it was half the size.
Also, I like the fact the guy kept the text style of the Ridgeline word as how it comes on the vehicle:)
Webwader 01-12-2006, 09:39 AM Very nice Dktahg. The gold looks great on the green and the font is a great choice.
UglyTruckling 01-12-2006, 11:18 AM Very snazzy, Dktahg!
RagingDiablo13 03-23-2007, 05:38 PM Here are pics from pins I just got put on a couple days ago. The guy that did has been doing it for a long time in this area, Beck Lines. He does all of them by hand, no taping. Really nerve racking to watch. I had him put a red stripe down the side, custom with little devil horns and pitched forked tail, along with H symbol on all door handels. Very happy with it. Sorry for quailty of pics, its raining here, but wanted to show it off. :D

X-Brawn 03-24-2007, 12:07 AM I've been thinking of laying my own 'stripes as I've been doing them on some "model" cars I've done before. All it takes is a clean surface, steady hand, and patience.
Here are some images of my work:

X-Brawn 03-27-2007, 11:59 AM Boy, doing pinstripes on a model versus a full scale vehicle is a lot more challenging then I thought it would be. I'm trying to use the same silver pinstripes I put on that silver custom I did, and posted before, and I'm not having much luck. If I could afford it, I'd hire someone to do it for me.
Any tips, suggestions, or VISUAL how-to's would greatly be appreciated. I checked online for one, and I was doing what I know to do to lay pinstripes. Clean hands, work smoothly in long segments pulling lightly while laying the stripes. But, I want them exactly and evenly under the body line. Any help (or visual guides) would be appreciated.

X-Brawn 03-27-2007, 10:36 PM Pun a piece of tape as a guide and drink three beers. Are you painting or using stripe tape??
Stripe tape.
John32070 03-28-2007, 05:51 AM All look pretty neat, but I'll probably keep mine plain. Have to say it's too bad they didn't put the fuel door lower so the stripes don't go over it.
hiPSI 03-28-2007, 07:08 AM Stripe tape.
Ok...Tack it at the back (pull the backing off of about 1" of stripe). Unroll enough so you can walk up to the front of the truck. Now, standing at the front of the truck, pull the backing off the stripe and lay down the stripe. I get down close to the truck so can sight the tape and keep it the right distance from the crease. Just lay it down on the truck starting from the back to the front. Since the back 1" is all that you have pressed on so far you can pick it up if you did not get it right the first time. Once you get it right, push down on the tape the entire length except for the front 10" or so. Now remove the top clear plastic from the stripe (if equipped). Make your point out on the fender and then go through and cut each panel gap. It's like taking a 20' long string and laying it down straght on the ground. It takes 5 minutes to do the complete job when done right (both sides). Good luck and pm me if you have any questions.
UP N MTNS 03-28-2007, 08:51 AM I pulled them off the day I got mine....Just never been a fan of pinstripes, but to each there own:)

I think the Ridgeline is one of the few vehicles that actually looks GOOD with pinstripes. They help to break up the monotonous looking sides and help with the visual flow of the truck. If, they are done right.
