Has anyone tried to install a ambient console light from an RTL on a RTS. It looks like the connector in the headliner to the left of the light has more wires going to it than the RTS uses. If you unplug the RTS assembly and plug in a RTL assemble will it work or is the necessary harness missing.

1 step ahead of you. I've priced it out.
Due to the RTL ambient light, which is housed within the overhead console, BTW is different in depth as well. Hence, you have to change the roof liner - that alone is 200 bucks. I have it planned in the back of my mind. But, the other kicker is the housing, homelink set up is another 240 I think (counting all the parts) - its not 'cheeeeep'
This thread is the overall topic - http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8255&highlight=ambient
The parts below are to replace...RTS with RTL ambient light / homelink / leather steering wheel / auto compass mirror

I like your thinking. Pretty soon I'm going to call mine a 2006 Ridgeline RTS/L (and if decide on the moonroof install (http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9190&highlight=moonroof)) RTS/L S/R :D <see link for that topic

I did test swap my sunglass holder from an '05 Pilot & it fit perfectly!
Total cost to get the RTL style ambient light/homelink was around $220. All power is currently under the sunglass holder except the power for the ambient light (tied to the headlights). I decided that it was WAY to expensive to convert my RTS. I have found the Home Link transmitter range to be random and unacceptable.
BTW - Ambient light is the orange light that casts a ambient light tone over the center council so you can see that area at night.(RTL only)
I would take a look at these two thread for more info:

I would rate the homelink transmitter range as excellent for opening my personal garage door which uses a 6 year old Stanley Quiet Guide that has an antenna that hangs down about 10 inches below the motor. I can consistently open my garage door from over 150 yards away. (That is yards and not feet, no typo there. I live in the back of a Cuel de Sac so I have a straight line shot from down the street.)
One of the other buttons on my homelink is programmed to open my Mom's garage door which has a 20+ year old Genie opener. The homelink's range with this opener is about 20 feet from the door on a good day and opens the door very inconsistently taking anywhere from 2 to 5 tries to work. I wouldn't blame your lack of range on the homelink unit, I would blame it on your opener.
For those of you contemplating adding homelink, I would suggest you go to a junkyard and get a drivers side sun visor off of an old Nissan Pathfinder. It has the same homelink unit that the RL uses and I'll bet you can get it for less than $20.

You have to do some wire tapping, but it is an easy swap. We did both the shop truck (an 06 RT) and my truck (06 RTS). The overhead for the RT was out of a totaled Pilot, and the one for my truck is out of a totaled Accord coupe. Our tech here went online with Hondanet and looked at the wiring diagram and it took him 5 minutes total on the shop truck. Later when I bought my truck, I had already gotten a overhead out of an Accord. I just parked my truck next to the shop truck and tapped the same wires. Took me about 5 minutes as well. It bolts right in, same unit for Pilot, Ody, Accord. The only difference is the accord one has a switch on the unit for the cabin lights, since accords don't have the main switch on the dash like the RL or Pilot, Ody. The Accord unit also doesnt have the "conversation mirror" either, but I didn't care about that. Overall, a very easy swap if you get a unit out of a salvage yard. I got mine free, but my contact a the salvage yard said he would sell one for about $50 retail.

It comes stock on the RTL and illuminates the center console with a soft light when the headlights are turned on;) It's really nice at night to see this area where your drinks sit and your console storage:cool:
