RL finally got to go on vacation after 1 year of serving as the all purpose commute to train station during the week / home landscaping and soccer coach on the weekend mobile. About 1400 miles round trip from Long Island, NY to Bar Harbor, Maine. Stayed in a beautiful hotel on Frenchman's Bay, the Bar Harbor Inn. We don't exactly rough it when we go away.
Family and all sorts of recreation equipment stuffed into the RL at 3 AM and off we went. Took about 10 hours, with a couple of stops for gas and potty. Got about 16 MPG on average, all highway at about 75 MPH using cruise as much as possible. Not quite as good as I had hoped for, but I have never gotten much more than 16 the last year on avarage, but I still was hoping to see around 20. Wasn't meant to be. Giant bike rack behind probably acted like big storm anchor to slow me down.
We biked and hiked the trails and carriage paths in Acadia National Park. We played golf on a great course on the slopes of Cadillac Mountain (renamed Ridgeline Mountain for our stay). And of course, my favorite recreational activity - we ate out all the time and enjoyed the local flavors and my favorite was fresh wild blueberry ice cream (which every restaurant had and all were exceptional). And can't forget the popovers at Jordan Pond House with strawberry jam (you get a popover with every meal and they are outrageous).
First Pictures below of the Inn and rainbows and one from the balcony of our room. Posts below will have RL pics in Acadia Park and from the hiking/biking trails.
