rocky 08-31-2006, 11:51 AM Do we foresee any Phoenix gatherings in the future as it gets a bit cooler down here? Say late September or October? There's a large outdoor shopping area called the Scottsdale Pavilions that usually has a really cool parking lot car show/cruise on Saturdays for whoever wants to show their vehicles. Mostly hot rods and low riders, but sometimes there's some cool big trucks and anything really trick. Take a look at their website and you can see where it is and found out about the stores, restaurants, movie theater, events, etc:
http://www.scottsdalepavilions.com
It's a fun time with some cool stores around for your money spending enjoyment. There's also a kick-butt Mongolian BBQ joint there called YC's. Maybe we can work out a way to have a Ridgeline section and take up a bunch of spots with nothing but our trucks. It's something to think about.
So if anyone is interested, please post and see if there's enough response to really plan something. Thanks!
meanmachine19 08-31-2006, 10:05 PM Hey Rocky!
I'm always up for an Arizona Meet! I was waiting for one of you southern guys to take the lead. Haven't seen 'meinahonda' for awhile.
October sounds better since I am going to the CAL meet on Sept. 30th. But shoot for mid-late October and I am there!! I am off work the weekend of 10/22. I am sure I can bring one or two of the guys from up north here. I also have lots of contacts in my addy and buddy list.
Keep me posted. My email is on my signature.
rocky 09-01-2006, 08:45 AM Hey mm19... mid-late October is cool with me. The weekend that you're off should be just fine. That leaves plenty of time for people to check their schedules and 'pencil in' a meet.
I'm outta' town this weekend, but next Saturday I'll head out to the Pavilions and see if I can find the coordinator of the car show. Maybe he/she can set us up with a special area for Ridgelines only. I'll get back to you with that info.
OneBigDog 09-02-2006, 08:54 PM I'm down - finalize the date and I'll be there. Has to be a weekend though.
Jeff
Rocky: I would be interested in a Honda Ridgeline gathering of Ridgeline owners and their trucks in Late October 2006. I have a 2007 dark cherry pearl RTS.

auditude 09-16-2006, 11:45 PM I'm watching the thread as well. :)
meanmachine19 09-17-2006, 08:34 PM Well, someone down there needs to pick a date, time and place. If it is on the weekend of Oct. 21/22 I will be there. I will also be in Scottsdale the night of the 22nd so Sunday works good for me too.
There are lots of RL owners from AZ. Its a lot of work to get it going, but if a time and place is set, I will forward an email to those I have on my buddy list and email addy book from past AZ meets in Sedona. Having organized two here in Sedona, I look forward to just being a participant (especially since I had to withdraw from the CAL meet).
My personal email is on my signature if anyone needs to contact me!

rocky 09-17-2006, 09:51 PM It sounds like the weekend of the 21st/22nd is ok for everyone. I haven't had a chance to visit the car show yet, but there's no reason why we can't gather there even if we're not a part of it. So if that's ok with everyone keeping an eye on this thread, let's go ahead and book that weekend. Hey Kevin (mm19), go ahead and email your buddy list and see who replies. It's a long shot, but I can call my dealer and see if he'd be interested in perhaps throwing in some cool freebies. Like I said, it's a looooong shot, but the worst he can say is no. For those of you who've done this before, do you have any tips or hints on what I can do to help plan this thing. I don't think it's going to be a huge event, but I'd like to think that there'll be at least a handful of us. What are we thinking about food, activities, etc... Thanks in advance!
Truckin' 09-17-2006, 11:57 PM Don't call, go by your dealer's and ask in person. It's harder to just blow off someone standing there. We got four great prizes from our dealer for our meet in July.
Y'all have a blast. Ah, I don't need to say that, I know you will and I'll be pining away about missing another party.
dlg_az 09-18-2006, 12:05 AM It sounds like the weekend of the 21st/22nd is ok for everyone. ... What are we thinking about food, activities, etc... Thanks in advance!
Count me in; I'm a newbie owner and would love to meet local Ridgeliners. I live about 10 miles from the Pavillions and have been to the Saturday car show a couple times. I'd definitely check with the show organizers; they've changed some rules not too long ago about what types of vehicles are allowed at the show; not sure if they'd let a group reserver an outer area or not. Here's the website for more info:
http://www.pavilionscarshow.com/
So many people show up there that it would be a major challenge to get all the Ridgelines in one place. Looking forward to the meet!
rocky 09-18-2006, 11:44 AM Hey dlg_az... great info. Welcome! I'm pretty new myself, but what better way to no longer the new guy than try to plan an event? Truckin' had a great idea about going straight to the dealer. I'm sure it's much easier saying no on the phone.
Wow... it looks like this is going to be a pretty cool gathering!
dlg_az 09-18-2006, 07:36 PM Hey dlg_az... great info. Welcome! I'm pretty new myself, but what better way to no longer the new guy than try to plan an event? Truckin' had a great idea about going straight to the dealer. I'm sure it's much easier saying no on the phone.
Hiya, "Rocky No Longer The New Guy" ;-) Welcome back at ya!
I've gotta hand it to you, pulling together a meet in Scottsdale this time of year (snowbirds!), and at the Pavillions. There's plenty of room there, no doubt, but the task will be finding one place all the Ridgeliners can meet in one area ... the car show attendees take up a lot of space on the north side of the Pavillions, but what about maybe the Harkins Theater area near the back (may be worth a call to Harkins) ... or across the street near the Discount Tire store side. It's a possibility, and everyone can dash across the street to ogle the classic cars and get some MickeyD's. I heard McDonald's owns much of the north side parking lot area and farms out space for the show. I think it will be catch-as-catch-can for group parking. It will be more like, let's pick a general area and meet up at the closest store ;-)
Should be a hoot no matter where we end up. How many Ridgeliners are interested so far?
rocky 09-18-2006, 08:23 PM Hm... all good points. I will have to make some phone calls in order to nail down a spot to park. I'd like to think the car show organizers would like a large group of the same vehicles in the same place. If nothing else, the parking lots there are HUGE, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a large area to 'rope off' and make it our own. As for the snow birds... let 'em come too. Sure, it might be a bit crowded, but isn't that what makes it fun? Oh well... I don't have a current count yet, but I'd like to believe there'll be at least six of us. Should be a great time!
meanmachine19 09-19-2006, 12:17 PM It sounds like the weekend of the 21st/22nd is ok for everyone. Rocky, I just sent out an email to everyone's private email addy that are in my ROC Member list, including you. I will add the Buddy List information as soon as I can write them all down.!
meanmachine19 09-19-2006, 12:37 PM Rocky,
Here are the people on my 'buddy' list. They are AZ ROC members that I have compiled over the past 18 months. Some are inactive, others still very active and have attended past AZ meets:
1up5dn, Ahab, Arizona Ridgeliner! (I have regular contact with Mike), Auditude, AZ RTL KING, azdryheat, AZM, AZRidge, big_baller_honda (been two 2 Sedona meets), chicago, CJMDWYER, Delrio, Desert Ridge, divotdog, dig_az, Duncan, ej21 (had minimeet with him), Firstshirt, Francois, jebario, JETINAZ, JWRIDGE, kapp555, meinahonda, mentallyabused, mike kennedy, Preston (had minimeet with him), ridgepol, RidgeTrooper, rwolsen@cox.net, Sephiroth, shreddude, SnowRidge, SW_Mike, Tucker Nason (lives near me), tucsonridge, usb73, woodco.
That's approximately 42 if you include us, of course.....
I know there are more. You can send private messages but if they are not active, you will waste time. You could do as I have done - go thru, see if they are active.....then email them.
For organizing, you want a place big enough for all of us to park. This will be for the photo ops.
Then, after an hour or two, a close by lunch place big enough to accomodate.
Post the time and date of the meet. Those that can make it, will. Likewise for lunch. Otherwise, you will get 20 opinions and no decisions.
You may want to have this meet added to the calendar by the ROC admin (T-Mac). Also make it part of your signature (look at the mid-atlantic meet or Toobuku's signature).
Press on, invite everyone once you have the place to meet!
Email me if you have any questions. I'll do what I can to help, but I am up north. I also said I would not organize any more since I've already done 2 meets in Sedona. Contact ROC member 'Meinahonda' (Sean) since he indicated last April he would help out with a meet in Phoenix....:p
rocky 09-19-2006, 03:21 PM Once I nail down a definite time and place, I will ask to have this meet added to the ROC event calendar. I emailed the organizers of the car show, so let's hope they reply with good news. If not, I'll continue digging and find us an area over there. The parking lot by the movie theater is huge... and that theater is hardly crowded, so maybe the managers there will be nice and let us squat for a while.
Just for the fun of it, I email Phoenix International Raceway. I simply asked if we could use one of their overly large parking lots... and possibly take our trucks out on the track. All they can say is no, so it was worth a shot. Who knows, perhaps in a month's time, we could all be cruising around that beautiful oval in or Ridgelines.
Anyway, I've compiled a list of the local restaurants, as well as spoken with my brother-in-law who owns a pizza place in town. So I don't think food will be a worry. We can always get him to make a couple 10 foot subs and some pizza's... at wholesale cost of course!
I was also thinking up some fun photo ops for our trucks, like circling them like a wagon train, or lining them up end-to-end and measuring how long it is. If we can get 11 RL's to show, we can probably spell out ROC and take an overhead picture. It's a stretch... but what else will we have to do?
If we can get some fun freebies, maybe we can have truck contests, or even a raffle. This way any money collected can go to the Arizona Humane Society or something to help out the community.
So far the following members have shown interest. Let's hope we have more replies once we confirm time and place.

I had a feeling you might be up for it Dan! It's about as close as the meet next week!
Hope to see you in Phoenix (Scottdale).
meanmachine19 09-21-2006, 09:38 PM Rocky, add Big_Baller_Honda (Vince) to the list. He just needs to know when and where.

rocky 09-22-2006, 10:10 AM No problem... we're on our way to a baker's dozen!
I haven't received a reply from anyone regarding space at the car show. I think my next step is to just head over there like I originally planned and meet them face-to-face. Silly me for thinking a simple email would suffice! Oh well, no worries. Everyone keep an eye here and I should have some good news in the next day or so.

I think we can get 2 dozen! Once we have the date and place, I think we will see more people commit.
If the car show doesn't work out, then we can always meet elsewhere. Got any scenic ideas down there??
RedDawg 09-22-2006, 11:21 PM Hey all,
If the Pavillions doesn't work out, some other options could be:
1. The new Cardinal's Stadium
2. Papago Park
3. Tempe Town Lake
4. Fountain Hills (at the Fountain)
Not certain I can make it, so won't commit, but will keep an eye on things and if my schedule permits, sounds like fun.

RedDawg, Tempe Town Lake is an excellent choice! Now why didn't I think of that. There is all kinds of space there. And a great place to take pix. Plus it's close to all kinds of activity ... picture this ... a motorcade of Ridgelines down Mill Ave.
meanmachine19 09-23-2006, 07:53 AM Tempe Town Lake sounds great since I've never been there  ...Cardinal's Stadium is too far on the east side (and I don't wanna be confused for a Card's fan :p ).

Welcome to the ROC RedDawg and greetings from up north! I hope you can make it if your schedule permits. Meets are a lot of fun, having been to a few myself! The more, the merrier!! Keep us posted.
rocky 09-25-2006, 10:21 AM Tempe Town Lake is a great idea... however that is Sun Devil Homecoming, and I don't need to remind you how CROWDED it gets down there during Sun Devil games... especially for the homecoming game.
I think the Fountain Hills fountain would be a great area to do it! My wife and I go there every now and again with a picnic basket and our dogs. There's some big grassy areas and there should be enough parking. I'd say this is the best place for the meet. I'll do some checking on the area and get back on here.
Oh yeah... what about one of our many casino's around the valley? They have really big parking lots, and most of them are out in the middle of the desert... which is normally pretty scenic. Of course I don't know if we need permission to hang out there or not.
meanmachine19 09-25-2006, 10:59 AM I'm not very familiar with Fountain Hills or the casinos, so whatever you think will make for some good scenic shots, plenty of parking, lunch closeby, etc. then it should work out fine!
meanmachine19 09-29-2006, 10:06 AM Rocky, any update? Have you guys found a good meet place and picked the day (Sat or Sun)?
Keep us posted so we can keep this thread going. We may even get Twintym from So Cal!!
I have not had any other replies from my emails but once we have date, time and location, I'll send it out again!
rocky 10-10-2006, 11:50 AM Hey guys!
Sorry for the delay in getting back on here. The last week and a half have been crazy. My mother-in-law had knee surgery last week and so every night since then I've been over there with my wife for dinner and making sure she's ok.
Anyway, the car show may not pan out since no one ever returns emails or phone calls. There are a ton of parks around the valley, so I'm looking for a good one. There is a really cool train park in Scottsdale, and I'm going to give them a call and see what the story is.
So don't discourage... I didn't flake out on our meet. I just hit a few snags. I will reply back when I find a park we can use. Thanks for being so patient and not flaming me for disappearing for a week!
OneBigDog 10-10-2006, 11:25 PM Kiwanis park in Tempe is nice - just a suggestion.

Truckin' 10-10-2006, 11:34 PM Hey, Jeff, I haven't seen you around much lately. How are your two girls doing? Don't tell Gail I called her your girl . . . :p
CopperPoppy 10-10-2006, 11:35 PM I'm up in Prescott but, I'll come. (waving hands in air) In fact, it might be fun to take the group to Sedona. Could you imagine it ... 20 Ridgelines, climbing the hill to Sedona? Oh that would be just way too cool.
Whatchathink?
Anyway, include me in the next meet, ok?
Truckin' 10-10-2006, 11:39 PM We had twelve and I'd love to see twenty up there. Take a look at the party MeanMachine19 put together for us last spring.

You are lucky to live near some great RL enthusiasts. Get to know them and have fun!
meanmachine19 10-11-2006, 05:40 PM Hey Rocky, have we picked a day yet? The clock is ticking, and I'd like to send out another email to everyone on my ROC list. Let's just pick a date, time and interim location. We will likely be on the move afterwards.
I recommend around 11:00 a.m., then do lunch nearby where we initially meet. I just need to know which day because I will be spending Sunday night in Scottsdale. If it's Saturday, I can spend Sat. night down at the in-laws too.
From there we can figure out a few good scenic areas to take pics, be it Papago park or anywhere the group suggests.

Copper, keep checking in here.
We did a meet in Sedona this past April, and one the previous August. I organized both so I just wanna follow the crowd this time. Butr I am sure Sedona is something that will happen again someday, maybe sooner if someone else organizes it. I can get a few RL's there (guys that don't post often but live here).
Keep in touch and drop me a line sometime.

I will. (sitting here quietly) I would love to go to a meet. How cool would THAT be?
I guess we had a MiniCooper group up here about a month ago... all these little bitty cars zooming up Highway 69. It looked like an invasion of multi-colored ladybugs. It was cool AND creepy at the same time.
Now "the Truck" would be different... ;)
OneBigDog 10-11-2006, 10:12 PM Hey, Jeff, I haven't seen you around much lately. How are your two girls doing? Don't tell Gail I called her your girl . . . :p
I've been around but just in lurk mode :) Lots of things to keep me busy. And I'm down to one girl now :( Gail's back in South Dakota. I'm really looking forward to this meet though. Can't wait to see all the Ridglines and see the faces that go with the names.
meanmachine19 10-14-2006, 09:50 PM A week to go.... so where's the party??:o Come on now Phoenix....don't flake on us!! Let's get a date, time and place so we can get Twintym over from So Cal!!
rocky 10-16-2006, 02:22 PM A TIME AND PLACE HAVE BEEN CHOSEN!
Ok... I've talked to more than a few people about where to do this thing, and it turns out that the Scottsdale Pavillions is the winner. They have a massive amount of parking space, so we'll just pick one and make it our own. Once I get home tonight, I will do get an overhead shot and some directions on where we'll be meeting, and post it up here. There are many scenic areas in the vicinity that we can caravan to for some good group shots. There is also a multitude of restaurants. Let's go with meanmachine's idea of 11AM, then after a couple hours we can go have some lunch. Does anyone have any orange cones that we can use to setup a parallel parking contest?
Anyway, sorry it took me so long to find a place, but all the good parks have been booked for months! I think this will be the best area to be in since there is such ample parking. We may need to travel to get some really nice scenery, but what's more fun than a big ol' wagon train?
Questions? Comments? Let me know what everyone thinks and we can all plan to hold this thing on Saturday the 21st @ 11AM. It may not be a sweet shindig like meanmachine throws, but at least we can all meet and put faces with names!
meanmachine19 10-16-2006, 02:46 PM Saturday, 21st at 11:00 a.m. I am there!!
I will forward the information thru my email list as well!!
rwolsen@cox.net 10-16-2006, 04:06 PM I'll be there. Missed all the previous meets. 63,000 miles so far. 23mpg
Twintym 10-16-2006, 06:02 PM We will make it to Scottsdale this Saturday (332 miles). We just booked a room at the Best Western Papago Inn in Scottsdale. We are leaving really early Saturday morning to make the drive out. Is anyone bringing a Talkabout FRS radio to the meet? I will bring mine and keep it on channel 6, privacy code 0 unless you guys pick a different channel. We will see you all by 11:00. :D
meanmachine19 10-16-2006, 10:14 PM Great to see BOTH of you coming!!
Dan, are the girls coming too? If so, I will be sure to bring Erin!!
I'll go check my email to see if there are any other replies!!
Twintym 10-17-2006, 12:29 AM The girls will be with us this weekend. They are looking forward to seeing Erin. In fact, it's probably the only reason they want to come. You know "just another ROC thing."
So how many RLs are we expecting? We are looking forward to seeing our AZ-ROC buddies again. Let me know about the FRS radios. Thanks.

I don't know how many RLs will be there. Mike (AZ Ridgeliner) is flying back in that morning from CT. His truck is home. I may drive his truck down while my wife drives our truck. THen pick him up at airport and go over to the meet.
Big_Baller_Honda (Vince) just sent me an email. He initially was going to go, but won't be. He traded in his RL :( for a Yukon (family needs). He said he might stop by anyway, but it will be without his great looking black RL. He had some awesome rims on them
Ray (RWOlsen) replied that he will be there so I look forward to meeting him for the first time.
Rocky may have a better count as far as numbers. I would like double digits so it at least makes your trip worthwhile!
See you Saturday. If you don't have my cell #, email me. I believe I have yours (unless it changed-last four '0303'). If not, email me as well.
rocky 10-17-2006, 11:34 AM I can't say for certain who is a definite (since plans sometimes change for people), but I know at the very least I'll be there! Here are the people who've shown interest and even said they'd be there. Maybe we can get them to confirm? I saw that Big_Ball_Honda is no longer an RL owner, but you never know.

rocky 10-17-2006, 05:29 PM Here is a map of the area. If you need directions, go to Google Maps and search on "E Indian Bend Rd & 101, Scottsdale, AZ" which is the exact location of the Scottsdale Pavilions. The green box is where the car show is held at 4PM. The red box is an area of parking lot that is always empty. I think that's where we should initially meet for a couple hours of meet and greet, accessory comparison, pictures, contests, etc. After that, we can head somewhere for lunch, then to one of the many scenic areas in town. If you have any suggestions on scenic places or restaurants, let me know. I'm going to call my favorite sports bar called Goldie's to see how big a party they can handle. Either way... if you need further clarification, please ask. I'll post more later with more information. Until then, happy RL'ing!

auditude 10-17-2006, 07:28 PM Hey AZ Ridgers,
I'm afraid I prolly won't be able to make it this Saturday. I have an appt to take my truck back to the dealer, yet again, to fix some minors issues it has.
The CD player has got a malfunction (replaced once already), and they need to replace a clip on each bumper, deal with some ugly scratches the front of the bed that were there upon delivery that you can see from behind the truck, and look at an area of the rear bumper paint that looks like it was incorrectly or incompletely buffed out (I wonder if it was repainted by them for some reason).
Saturday is my only day available to take it in, and I'm hoping this will be my last one spent there. It's too bad I'll miss this meet, especially with the folks coming out long distance! I'll have to catch the next one, if I'm not still trying to get my truck sorted out.
Rocky:
I would like to attend, but will be attending an alumni club football game at Baseline Sports bar until noon on October 21, 2006, Saturday. Would Sunday, October 22, 2006 work at noon at the Pavilions for the car show and then get something to eat?

frog: I believe the car show is only on Saturday, and I think a lot of folks can only make it then as well. Hey... no worries. This won't be the last Phoenix ROC event. You can make the next one.
Too bad you two can't make it. I don't know where we're going to end up after lunch for some sightseeing, pictures, etc... but you never know if you'll be available later in the day. You can pm any of us attending and exchange cell #'s so we can let you know where we are if you suddenly become available. Either way... we'll catch you next time!
meanmachine19 10-18-2006, 09:39 PM Hey AZ Ridgers,
I'm afraid I prolly won't be able to make it this Saturday. I have an appt to take my truck back to the dealer, yet again, to fix some minors issues it has.
Saturday is my only day available to take it in, and I'm hoping this will be my last one spent there. It's too bad I'll miss this meet, especially with the folks coming out long distance! I'll have to catch the next one, if I'm not still trying to get my truck sorted out.
Bummer about the problems. What dealership are you taking it to? Maybe we will do a drive by and put some pressure on the service department!

Maybe they will work fast enough so you can meet us for lunch! If not, there will be other meets....

If they were on the tailgate, I wouldn't mind it so much. They are in the worst place possible in the bed, on the top part of the front of the bed/back of the cab. This is the part that you can see when you are standing or driving behind the truck. Also known as the part where people from your work go to look at your brand new truck with paper plates still on it and then ask you what you scratched the bed with. Otherwise I might not be as concerned. They tried touching them up the last time I was there, out of like 3 or 4 times so far,...
(bring it in and we'll look at it. oh, we need to order parts. oh, bring it in on Saturday since you work on weekdays. oh, I forgot the paint guy doesn't work on Saturday, bring it in on a weekday. oh, we didn't have the time to do it all. oh, we have to order parts again. oh, you have to bring it in on a weekday because it's uncommon for the second CD player to be bad to so our tech has to call corporate to talk with them and they only work weekdays.)
...but it now just looks like it is touched up. I mean these freaking scratches go all across the back of the cab, from one end to the other. Basically the truck was accessorized and spent some time on the showroom floor (and driven around for over a thousand miles) before they took most of the accessories off it and sold it to me. I don't know what kind of optional equipment they had in the bed, or what kind of crap the owner's wife or whoever drove it so much had in the back, but it left marks in the bed.
We're just now getting down to the bed scratches after replacing the "not an ashtray," replacing some missing caps for the roof rack, repainting one of the "sailpanels" that had two big chips, and replacing the CD player once. Basically one fix per visit with one exception where they actually did something else in addition to snapping the special order roof rack caps on. I've already been going to them for the CD player, which is a warranty issue, and the scratches and stuff is a delivery issue so I have to go to them, but otherwise I'm going to start going to a closer dealer than this one as it is nowhere near where I live or work. I still owe a call to the American Honda guy to request getting the door lock update, which I may have done closer to work or home if I even get approved.

Yeah, it would be cool to see a bunch of Ridgeliners together in one spot. I was hoping to get my Centerlines mounted and attend a meet, but I'm still working on getting a set of locks and picking some tires. I did put some rear splash guards on and am in the process of debadging the tailgate. I have the Honda removed and I like that look so far. I plan to remove the rest and possibly even the pinstriping since it's black and may look cleaner that way.
I hope you guys are planning on taking pics!

Lol, I was actually thinking of suggesting that you guys all come over to the dealership while I'm there and say hi. :D They have bottled water and popcorn. In the mornings I think they have donuts and cookies too.
I suppose the bright side is that they have wireless internet available for those sad folks waiting around like me, and a big screen.

Just wanted to post a note and let everyone who made the meet know how much fun I had. I've got a few photos (except for my unexceptional parallel parking :)) and will put them up tomorrow when I get better network connection.
Truckin' 10-22-2006, 07:21 PM Thanks for checking in and giving us that short report. I've been watching the Cape May photos come online and wondering about your RL owners in the western time zone. I trust that fun was had by one and all there too. Looking forward to your photos and reports.

Sounds like it was pretty fun. Sorry I missed it.
As for my dealer trip, they replaced the CD player and fixed the front bumper clip, but I have to go back tomorrow yet again to hopefully get the rear bumper clip replaced, deal with some funky paint spot on the bumper, and deal with the bed scratches. So this will be visit number 5. Not to vent in the meet thread. :)
I did finish debadging my tailgate today. :D
