: Disabling rear window chime
ssural 09-06-2006, 03:40 PM I am relatively new to this forum but have already taken advantage of hitch, tonneau cover and auto unlock advice. Thanks for the great advice. I searched all 9 pages in Problems & Issues but missed any mention of my question. How do you turn off the chimes that tell you the back sliding window is open?

I wish I knew. Maybe after this weekend, I'll have an answer for you. I am going to try to move the switch to the moon roof so that it will go off when it is flipped up where Honda should have put it in the first place. I always check my mirrors so I see the back window when it is open. I also can tell when the moonroof is fully opened but when it is flipped up is another story.
allhans 09-06-2006, 06:02 PM I am not sure you can, just like you cannot disable the "key in the ignition" alarm.

That one can be disabled.
BLK RTL 09-06-2006, 06:06 PM Great question, you would think the world is coming to an end with that "Chime", LOL-Id love to know.
Andy-Montreal 09-06-2006, 07:04 PM A simple unplug of the back window position switch harness connector is a snap and will disable the nagging chime (See enclosed scan). Unfortunately, most of the work lies with taking apart the rear seats and rear trim panel to get to this switch.
This is not a job for the light-hearted and impatient. I know as I had to remove it for the rear camera install. You also have to yank it if you're installing any other devices rear of the cabin (tailgate lock, backup sensors, etc...)

Wow. Thanks for the tip but that sure sounds like a ton of work just to get rid of an irritant.
MontanaFred 09-08-2006, 11:58 AM It is an irritant when I want to leave the window open. However, I have had a rain drenched back seat several times because I have left it open when I shouldn't have, and now I'm grateful my Ridgeline thoughtfully reminds me it's open.
Pizza Man 09-08-2006, 12:02 PM I don't mind the RW chime, it has a useful purpose. I just wish I could close the window without having to switch on the ignition.
Webwader 09-08-2006, 12:57 PM Ditto, MontanaFred.
Webwader 09-08-2006, 04:22 PM I also dont understand why your lights will automatically turn off if you leave them on but the parking lights dont
Because the intent of "parking" lights is that so you can "park" with them on if need be. Having the lights go off with the ignition would kind of defeat the purpose.
ShootinDownTheStars 09-08-2006, 04:37 PM HAd the answer right in the question!!!! :D
Webwader 09-08-2006, 06:09 PM Sorry, but not for an extended period of time without the engine running. To each his own.
I didn't recommend doing it for an extended period of time. The purpose of the RL parking lights is the same as it has been since parking lights were introduced and I simply gave you an explanation of why it doesn't turn off with the key. If you didn't want an explanation, why post the perceived problem?

Ditto for me too. I did the windows up on lock mod and I love it. Wish it worked on the "fifth window" too.
But I also feel that not wanting the chime is certainly your business. :)
SSquire 09-08-2006, 09:31 PM It's too bad that nowadays people going to drive-ins don't realize how to use their parking lights to park their cars and blind everyone with their HID's...
(sorry for the mini-rant, the parking light topic made me think of it...)
AmazonRidge 09-08-2006, 10:48 PM It's too bad that nowadays people going to drive-ins ...
They still have drive-ins??????
And people were surprised at the Ridge Run that Ohio had beer drive-thru's....
AmazonRidge 09-08-2006, 11:15 PM Webwader, Webwader,Webwader, I drover to work one day with my parking lights on and parked the RL. When I came back the lights were still on after 9 hours. You seem to put me down for not nowing anything about vehicals. With all the gadgets now a days I just threw in. It would be nice if they would turn off automaticaly after so many hours. Just like so many people out their list their little things they would like. I do have many more things to do than just sit at the computor and get into all the posts that are on this site like you. Now go and pick on someone else. I've been here along time to but my posts will never show it.
Why were to driving with only your parking lights on?
I know, I know....you can drive how you choose, but that is not the purpose of those lights, and they really don't do much good while driving. Why not go one step further and drive with your headlights on, and everyone can see you, and you never have to worry about this again???
I never understood driving with your parking lights on. I may be young and naive, but any "wise" members that can point out the benefits of doing so?
gweppy 09-09-2006, 06:38 AM just leave it the way it is, it doesn't bug me
ssural 10-30-2006, 03:29 PM Maybe many of you forgot what a forum is for. I was asking a "how-to" question and, initially, I got some thoughtful responses. I read some of these later responses and people are telling me the chime doesn't bug them so leave it alone. If it doesn't bother you, then you are just fine. It bothers me and I was looking for a solution. Thank you Andy-Montreal for a thoughtful and useful response. For you others who just want to criticize me for wanting to turn it off, waste somebody else's time.
chisoxjim 10-30-2006, 03:43 PM ssural,
from a fellow Land of Lincoln resident...
just ignore the handfull of know-it-all jags we have on this forum. They only amuse, inform themselves..
good luck with getting the chime turned off.
geotech 10-30-2006, 03:46 PM If you find out, I'd like to know. I'm no real help.
