My next big project :)

Since I have bought the RL I have looked at a bunch of campers of all sorts but I wanted something different. I have been scoping out teardrop campers lately. My wife and I have decided that this will be our winter project this year. These are pictures of a teardrop camper that a person whom I am acquainted with made. You can buy these but the perdominant number of these that you see on the road are home made. You can build something like this for around $600 and in as little as 30 hours. This one of course is a little more expensive. I had never heard of these until recently and thought I would share.

Here are a couple of pics of the teardrop he constructed. He made it totally from scratch.

Re: My next big project :)

I would bet a paycheck that cost a good deal more than $600 to make and took a hell of a lot longer than 30 hours to build. It's interesting though. I've been considering the T@B.

Tear Drop Trailers look cool. I saw some old plans on the Popular Mechanics site a few months ago, but lack the skill sets to build one. There is a RV and Trailer show this weekend in Santa Barbara where I can check out the Trailmanor and some Aframes. Good luck on your Project.

I think he said he has about $1500 in his IIRC.

Ditto - any interior pics?

I'd never get my wife to sleep in one of those but it would be neat for quick fishing or hunting trip. Even an overnight drive, then you wouldn't need a hotel.

That's exactly how me and my wife see it. This would be perfect for something like a meet or a weekend getaway up to Lake Erie or something of the sort or even a week long trip. You can still stay in a hotel if you wish but you have the choice to just pull over someplace like a KOA and hit the hay without having to set up a tent or anythhing and then hit the campground showers in the morning.

I used to have a 28' motorhome and never used it because it got crappy mileage and was a PITA in regards to upkeep. It had room for 8 people to sleep and had a 27" color TV and central air. It was total overkill. This to me seems like the perfect way to go. It is cheap, small, and you don't have to pour a 500 sq foot concrete pad on the side of your house to store it for the 325 days a year that you don't get to use it.

Re: My next big project :)

Reminds me of The Little Guy tear drop camper trailer. That is so comfortable and better than sleeping on the ground, a friend has one and i've seen him pull it with his Element. Its quiet and with good insulation from the weather when camping.

Is there a kit for anyone who is interested or a link to a company if someone do decide to go through your way of thinking of building something like that?
