are you at least strapping the bike down?
I haven't really used the rack yet, but I wasn't planning on any straps. I've yanked and pulled on the rack vigorously and it doesn't move.

Re: Thule Bike Rider

I wouldn't take any chances. I strapped my bike down using the bar around the seat post.

I just cut a couple of 2x6 spacers to mount the rack at the front bottom tie down points.
This is exactly what I am looking for. Couldn't find it on the Thule Website though.

Please tell me where I can find this.

thanks for the helpful info.

Re: Thule Bike Rider

It's actually called Thule Bed Rider (model 822). Here's the site's link:
http://www.thuleracks.com/thule/prod..._id=75&sku=822

Here one on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Thule-822-Bed-Rider-Pickup-Truck-Bike-Rack-NEW_W0QQitemZ190033703866QQihZ009QQcategoryZ16085Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

If you don't do ebay, you can always buy it from your local bike store.

Re: Thule Bike Rider

The Thule is a great way to go! But I just thought I would show you what I did in my Ridge...

I mounted these onto the rear trunklid. I've actually was carrying my bikes like this just standing on their own, but after a couple hard turns they'd fall over (but not go anywhere).

This is my solution because it's much easier to roll the bikes into the truck, than to climb in and mount them forward. They are also out of the wind. During the winter I just remove the hardware and they turn into handles on the trunklid.

P.S. The hardware is all stainless and cost about $13 bucks

I installed a Thule bed rider a few weeks ago. My mountain bike is a 19.5 inch Trek hard-tail. It fits if I deflate the rear tire a bit or **** the rear wheel a little to one side. Thule makes a quality rack, but I tie a bungee cord through the wheel across the front tie downs on the bed as secondary protection.

Re: Thule Bike Rider

I also have the Thule bed rider, mounted a little higher up on the actual bed walls. it gives the rear bike tire a little more clearance, and allows me to open the trunk to put my front wheels in there, while the bikes are mounted. for a 17 inch Kona double suspended its a perfect fit, the rear wheels go in the little indents in the front bed wall where the motorcycle wheel mounts would go. I briefly considered bolting a fork mount to the top of the tailgate, since that plastic trim piece is cheap to replace when and if I ever sell the Ridge. I too replaced the Thule skewers with lockable Yakima ones, and I also use a cable lock unless its a quick trip to the trailhead. lastly, my 17 ft sea kayaks fit just fine on my Yakima rack with the bikes in there. now if just had more time to play with my toys ...

Re: Thule Bike Rider

Couldn't find anyone local who had a Thule Bed Rider in stock and didn't want to chance it with shopping online and not getting it before our trip to Kiawah Island, SC, tomorrow morning so here's the solution I came up with (used a pair of Thule 822 Low Rider fork blocks and some 4/4 pine lumber I had left over from another project - bolted a length of the 4/4 to the front of the bed using 80mm M6 fasteners into the two outside tapped holes which mount the bedliner to the cab). Works well and total cost was less than $40.

If you don't do ebay, you can always buy it from your local bike store.

Only place I found it local here is for $200.00 dollars. No Thanks I'll be doing a little "mini" project myself.

Thanks for the great info!
