Thule Bike Rider

Thanks to a member's post in another thread, I went out and got this rack. Initally, I was at Lowes and Home Depot trying to scout out supplies for a "DIY" rack but it became "too much". This rack's quality is great, solid build; our RLs has the perfect install location too. I wasn't able to open trunk fully yet, but should be no problem once I move the rack back about 1/2". Also, I had old Yakima fork clamps laying around, the pins were lockable so I used those instead.

Please don't ask for the size of the bikes, I have no clue. One bike has road tires.

Re: Thule Bike Rider

vpkb....very nice, what size is your bike? is that a standard 18" frame 26" wheels? Just wondering, if your bike is a 26" Mountainbike, maybe mine will fit in the back with the tail closed. I'm just wondering, for now, i have my MTB riding inside without the front wheel.

when you get a chance, there should be some sort of measurement on one of you down tubes...overall, that's so sweet, i have Specialized Hardrock comp Disc L or 18" fram with 26" wheels. That's why i'm asking, I've been looking for a solution in trasporting my bike other than keeping it inside the cabin. Is there any way to secure it from having the bar popping off if you hit a speed bump or a very large pot hole, does it clamp down the bed rails.

Re: Thule Bike Rider

OK, it's says "Medium" on the frame, according to GT, thats "roughly" 17" ("Large" is roughly 19"). The rack mounts solid to the truck, I don't believe it will pop off easily. However, there are 2 holes on each bracket that you can use to screw into the panel.

I have a pretty good feeling your bike will fit just fine, take a look at the picture of the dirt tire. It's aligned with one of the 3 groves in the rear wall, plenty of clearance there.

Re: Thule Bike Rider

thanx for the info and the quick search for you bike, yea, my bike is a Large (19") so, i've done a projection to see the what iff's and all the projections, i couldn't seem to fit my bike without having the tailgate up. That's why i ask. I may have to look into that also, i'm also considering other possiblities from other ROC's suggestion similar to the Thule bike bar.

Re: Thule Bike Rider

I also started a DIY bed rack system before decided it was easier and cleaner to get the Thule Bed Rider rack. However, I wanted the rack to be low in the front of the bed so I could keep the bikes mostly out of the windstream and provide clearance for a future kayak rack on the roof, and so I could drop the tailgate in case I wanted to carry a longer wheelbase bike. I just cut a couple of 2x6 spacers to mount the rack at the front bottom tie down points.
