Thanks for your input.
Hi Yooper. I too am sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I will soon be doing the same thing. My little Yorki-Poo will soon be 15 and she is sleeping longer and walking slower and I have to help her get into Ridgena sometimes. I have had her since the second she was born. I owned her parents. She is 3 inches taller than the smallest dog in the Guiness Book of World records. She follows me everywhere I go. She even has her own seat in Ridgena. Right on the console between me and Daddy. lol They are like kids, but I know I don't have to tell anyone who loves dogs that.

Ok..NOW..about that Ridgeline you are going to get.
Silver Silver Silver.
Sorry Truckin'..you know I had to jump in there.

Re: Back seat doggie deck

We've actually given thought to removing the seat bottoms in the back to give to dogs some more room. I haven't investigated how hard it would be to take them out, but on first inspection it doesn't look easy.

If you were going to remove the bottoms wouldn't it just make more sense to remove the entire seat? Since these are designed to be removable to add accessories and the like, it is unlikely that this would cause a major issue, but if you remove the bottoms, which may be held on by a bunch of screws you may be stripping out the board holding the bottoms down.

Thumbs up Re: Back seat doggie deck

Excellent work, Truckin! I bet your dogs are very happy to be up in front with the rest of the family!
Our dog is a 100 lb. German Shepherd, and one of the reasons we got the Ridgeline, so he could ride in the bed. I just carpeted the bed today and it looks great. Carpet's white, and my Ridge is blue, but the white is going to be cooler, and I don't care if he gets it dirty. At first I hooked the front of the carpet over the front tie down hooks (by the cab), but then one side accidentally came off (I'd cut it too close to the edge) but it's good as is. We tested it also, and he gives it a paws up.

I hadn't thought of that, but it would make more sense. I wonder what it looks like behind the seat or where I might find instructions for removing it. Does anyone know?

Yes, our girls love being near us. They like having the cool air blow on them. Our older girl often positions herself right in fron of the vent. We've put up a couple of bars behind the back seat to keep them from coming up onto the console and from breaking the vent control off. She can still put her head on the console and have the cool air blow on her chest.

I'm glad you carpeted the back. I climbed into the truck bed on a hot day and almost burned myself. It gets hot on that black bed.

Dogs love to go. Dogs that go are more manageable and better socialized.

I do hope that you use some sort of restraint for your dog. I hate seeing unrestrained dogs in the backs of trucks. I've seen dogs that have fallen out too many times.

Oh, definitely! Yes, we went to the pet store and got a restraint before we ever put the dog in the back.
Today though, (grrrr), I told my daughter to hold the dog, so I could lower the tailgate to let the dog out. We'd just unclipped the restraint from his collar and clipped the leash on. So I let go of the dog so I could lower the tailgate and the dog jumps right over the tailgate to the driveway, very ungraceful nosedive. He doesn't SEEM injured, but time will tell. He just recovered from a shoulder injury a couple of months ago, too.

Look at the instructions for installing the backup camera, I believe one of the steps requires removing the rear seats to pull the cables through. There may be others that require this, but I am sure there is at least one accessory that requires the removal of the rear seats.

Re: Back seat doggie deck

The PDF file for the back up sensor install also details the rear seat removal.

You can download the pdf file from

I hope your pooch is OK. It might be a good lesson for him. We insist on a stay with our dogs until they are released after they are safely clipped on their leashes or we are in an area they can run freely. They are so happy and enthusiastic to explore new places that it's very hard for them to honor the stay, but it's important to keep them safe.
