Our new Cat

This is Koal. He adopted us, but I must say I kinda wish a cat with more color would have instead. He's one tough kitty to get to show up on film/sensor. He needs to be blasted with sunlight to get any details to show.

What he lacks in being photogenic, he makes up for in personality and dispositon. He's still on probation, but he seems to be doing well over the last month or so. Give him a plastic bag, empty box, red ball and he keeps himself pretty entertained. He's a pretty mellow cat and not vocal at all which is a good thing. He's not very demanding and is very cool when you leave him alone as I imagine most cats are. That's not the case with dogs so much which can be a pain. you'd think the world was coming to an end when you leave some dogs alone.

He's also the only cat I've seen that likes to play fetch. Throw a ball, and he'll bring it right back. Are there any other fetching cats here?

He's beautiful! He looks so sleek.

Our cat, Murray, likes to fetch -- he'll carry the toy around his mouth until he finds someone who will throw it for him. His latest favorite toy? A roll of white medical tape! You just never know with cats!

Re: Our new Cat

ridge,

awesome cat,

my youngest cat Jefferson is also very photogenic, when we try to take a picture of the baby or the new house we always discover he has somehow snuck into the picture when reviewing on the digital camera.

enjoy your new friend.

Interesting, I thought this retrieving behavior was just mostly particular to dogs. I'm new to cats but am starting to see the benefits to cat owner ship. He uses the litter box, and it can be cleaned up at our convienence which is pretty cool.

As far as being sleek, I keep telling the wife I want a rolly polly cat. I give him treats and she keeps trying to put him on a diet. I think we're working against each other on that one. Though, I think the cat's on my side of the argument.

Re: Our new Cat

We used to have a cat that loved to play fetch with tinfoil balls.

Koal is gorgeous - very regal looking.

Re: Our new Cat

ridge,

a couple of things should fill him out, get him neutered, and a few table scraps. Our youngest cat is like a 10# sack of potatoes now..

Re: Our new Cat

You don't want him TOO tubby, though, as then you'll set him (and yourself) up for lots of veterinary work, from diabetes, etc.

His fur is so glossy -- he's really beautiful.

We'll see. He's doing pretty well, but there have been a few times he almost found another home. He loves to attack loafs of bread. Just attack them and not eat them. I think it triggers some kind of predatory intsinct. The bag of bread I think feels soft like dead prey because he'll hold and kick it while biting into it. Poor Nature's Harvest bread didn't stand a chance. I don't think it even saw it coming.

I'm just guessing trying to figure out why he does the things he does.

Good point about the vet bills. As far as glossy fur, it must be the result of lots of cat spit. He spends enough time grooming himself. We also feed him Eukanuba and that might help. I thought cat food was cat food, but after reading the ingrediant list on most cat food bags, I've come to the conclusion most of it is crap in a bag. Alot of brands don't even list any meat until the 4th or 5th ingrediant. Eukanuba list Chicken, chicken liver, chicken byproduct as the first 3 ingrediants. Pretty good stuff.

The foil is a great idea. it sems that the lighter the toy, the better cats like it.

as far as regal looking, I think he looks like the president of some of the better cat universities in the top photo.
