The Poo, oh the Poo!

Yeah I know what you were thinking with a title of Poo but.....

Thought I'd post some photo's of the poo.... (Poodle)

The first is Weston as a pup at only 5 1/2 weeks old, the second is with Weston and our Dalmatioan, and the third is with Weston at about 5 or 6 or 7 months old, he's quite collegiate looking in the third photo don't you agree..

Weston is a standard Poodle who now stands at 26" tall (he's a big boy IMO), and chocolate brown although his collegiate photo makes him look more reddish than brown. We'll be celebrating his 2nd birthday on Nov 25th of this year.

Re: The Poo, oh the Poo!

What suprises me is he's gone from that first photo which could be any sort of darkish brown/black puppy into a full blown standard poodle.

His nose was so smashed and small when he came into my life at 5 1/2 weeks old, now he's got the traditional long poodle nose, and the lanky legs etc.

Now if I could just keep him out of the pool when we're not at home I'd be pleased as all be. It seems he gets angry with me when I leave him at home even for an hour. The last couple days I had to leave him at home because we started to get a bit too warm again around these parts, but hell, I only went to the bank right down the street and then the supermarket. I was gone all of 40 minutes and I get home to find that the carpets are muddied again, he's soaking wet from the chest down because he decided it wold be a good day to step into the pool (he rarely will go deeper into the pool than the second step on purpose as he doesn't swim well. This summer we tried to teach him to swim properly but his back end just drops like a stone. We ended up buying him a life vest so that it keeps him afloat which allows him to swim laps with us.

Then just yesterday, I ran over to the pharmacy and was only gone for 30 minutes or so, and came home again to a wet poo in the house (ahem, Im speaking about the poodle here) because he decided to get in the pool again. It doesn't have to do with the weather because even though it's warmer again, it's not over 80f right now, and the water is a frigid 55-60f

He just likes to spite me for leaving him at home with the dalmatian instead of taking him with me everywhere that I go, which (usually) he does get to go with me almost everywhere that I go. Many shops in town (non food stores) that don't allow pets will allow him to come into the shop if he's been freshly groomed. Im guessing it's something about a freshly groomed puffy poodle that makes it all okay

Oh, and the best thing is that we are expecting another bundle of joy this christmas too. My mother has been struggligng to figure out what to get us for christmas this year, as if the Ridgeline wasn't enough , and so I said that we'd like to have another poodle before Weston gets too old, so that he will have a playmate and bonder for his whole life since the dalmatian is getting old and crickety, so my mother told me to contact the breeder (whom I'll see on Dec 7th anyway since she's coming down to some dog show down here and I agreed to baby sit her new puppies while she's at the show) and get an order in for another poo. Im really loooking forward to having another poodle around here, they are just so much damn fun to have around once they are housebroken and over that 2AM, 3AM, 4AM 4:30AM feeding or potty time thing that all puppies go through.

Re: The Poo, oh the Poo!

Well, poodles are "water dogs," IIRC, bred for hunting.

What I like about our shih-poo "designer dog" is that she doesn't shed. Poodles are very popular stock among hybrid breeders for that reason...

Re: The Poo, oh the Poo!

That's what I've been noticing lately at the dog park. Today there had to be at least 3 poodle hybrids there, one of them was certainly a labradoodle another was a goldendoodle, but the third one I couldn't figure out what it was crossed with, but the poodle was quite evident not only in it's hair and looks but also in it's behavior. When ever Weston play with another poodle they do the jump up and chest butt thing. They play like this regularly when he's playing with one of his poodle pals at the dog park, so even though I can't discern what the other poodle dog was crossed with, they went and played for a while and were doing the chest butt play thing.

Anyway I guess my point is, that I've been seeing a lot more poodle hybrids lately at the park now that the snowbirds are back in town for the season.

I guess not all poodle are alike, because my mums standard poodle swims like a fish, but Weston needs the life vest to keep from drowing. Or maybe it's just my concern that he will drown. My partner says that if push comes to shove and Weston were to fall into the pool, his self survival instinct would kick in and he would make it to the steps of the pool just like he does with the lifevest on. Thankfully he knows quite well where the steps are to the pool since that is where he purposely enters and exits the pool when it's the proper time of year for all of us to go swimming.

Re: The Poo, oh the Poo!

ours has a shih tzu face & tail, curly body hair & a lot of miniature poodle behavior (walking on hind legs, notably)
