I was thinking that would be the simplest solution and probably far less expensive than having to have a friend create a bed or having to go out and buy hammers, nails, screws, screwguns, glew carpets etc etc etc, but when I told the better half that I would be doing it that way I was told "Not with out dogs you aren't". So now I must pay a friend to create a more formal bed for our "kids". Oh well, better to pay out than to have a anger at home.

I forgot to mention it has "bumper pads" with the same stuff between the dogs and the front seat!

Ergonomic Pet Beds

The Secure Snuggler by The Doggie Bed Companyis a high end bed designed to combine, in the words of the designer, "skeletal support, soothing comfort and Lux style." Basically they designed a good bed for a pet that supports them while sleeping instead of a lumpy bag or bed that provides minimal comfort. The Secure Snuggler is a bed frame supporting a memory foam mattress wrapped in a cashmere/merino wool blend. If it's big enough I might want to curl up for a nap in that.

If you're one of the millions of people that view your pet as part of your family you may want to consider giving your pet a wonderful night, morning, and afternoon of sleep.

You could look at lounge chair pads. Some of them are pretty thick and are about the correct width but you might have to cut off some of the length. That could be easy or tricky depending on how the pad is designed. I would think you'd still want a piece of plywood, folded blankets or something under the pad to level out the bump.

Interesting that this thread exists.

One of the reasons I bought the Ridge is specifically because Morgan (shown in my Avatar) LOVES going with us. He can detect when we are going to leave for town almost before we do.. its uncanny.

But every time I take the Ridge, he spends a minute before he will jump in... trying to tell me.. he wants a better seating position. He wants to lay down. But if he does, he can't see out. He's made his point... and we are thinking about it.

It's uncanny, but not that unusual in dogs. Our previous dog not only could tell that we were about to leave, but 90%+ of the time he would know if he would be allowed to go. If he thought we were leaving and he was going he would get all excited. If not he would lay down somewhere and not move until we left.

Re: We need a doggie bed for the Ridgeline, any suggestions?

Our dogs will always campaign at least a little to see if they can butter dad up for a ride. Once we say the dreaded words 'No dogs' they become subdued and just follow us to the back door to see us off. We can leave the door wide open, go in and out, and they will stand just inside until we leave.

If they don't hear those dreaded words, or more dangerous than that, detect a smile or happy vibe from us, Sparkle explodes with excitement. We actually have to buffer Shimmer, as Sparkle aims all her enthusiasm to the old girl who isn't as stable on her feet as she used to be. Shimmer's learned to hang slightly behind us as we go down the stairs where Sparkle is waiting to jump on her once again. We work to subdue Sparkle while Shimmer gets a chance to make her way to the truck. Two tools, or even verbal threats to use one or the other, get Sparkle's attention: the muzzle or a squirt bottle. We keep both handy at the back door.

Aren't doggies wonderful?

Richard, I'm still waiting for more photos of Morgan. Your avatar doesn't do him justice.

Re: We need a doggie bed for the Ridgeline, any suggestions?

I started out using just a large dog bed pillow. I then put some foam under it and it seemed to work well for my 90 lb. Lab. I can fold it up and store it under the back seat when I need the seat so that is good. I also have a 6" thick foam crib matress that fits well but will not fold up. I use it for longer trips when I do not need the back seat. I have thought about taking the crib matress and cutting it then sewing a large case fo it that can be taken off and washed so that I could have it in there or under the seat. I have taken the dog to Florida (2300 miles) and back with this and she just lays down and sleeps most of the way. I have also crawled back there on it and at 200+ lbs. it did not beel that bad.

Good luck
