Dog got one ride in the bed - no more

Let my Westie ride in the bed when i first got the truck.

She left scratch marks all over the bed.

Most wiped way with damp cloth (like a chalk residue) but some left residual indentation marks (If that made any sense)

You should have decided to keep your Westie in the cab because it is the right thing to do; not because he/she left scratches in your truck bed. Some cargo is precious. I am sure other dog-loving forum members would agree.

When I first purchased my RL I was bothered by every scratch in the composite bed that I made. I tried to cover them up with black shoe polish, touch-up paint from H & A, etc....

I pass on to you what a senior ROC member said in a thread about the scratches in the truck bed to me. ".....scratches in the truck bed are badges of honor, wear them with pride!

Sure, but some people like having nice looking trucks.

I was loading a big pot into the back of my old Tundra once and I had my Mom and a friend of my Mom's with me (I'm the gopher/hauler of the family). I was taking care not to damage the truck bed or the pot when the friend said "just put it in there, it is just a truck." I snapped back with "I didn't pay $30,000 CASH to see my truck all dented up."

I later put Line-X in the bed of the Tundra and would like to do the same but I can't seem to get the local shop to get back to me via e-mail regarding a price quote. One member here, 4Linex, has his own Line-X shop and can answer some questions if you have any about it. The Line-X shop would need a special surface preparation chemical to ensure proper bonding, and the national guarantee wouldn't apply. It would only be guaranteed by the shop who did it.

One of the reasons I bought my Ridge' and not an SUV was for the bed - I haul around a golden and a labrador retriever. They're precious. They're also dirty and smelly after rolling around in the cow manure and goose poop and old mud puddles in the fields. I'm tired of cleaning interiors and worrying about it, so they now ride in the back. They like it, I like it, and all the people driving by like to see happy dogs (and a happy driver!)

You won't like it when you have an accident and your precious dogs get ejected and you either have a huge vet bill or have to put them down.

I'd throw a tarp over the back seat and cover the doors and let them ride inside for their own safety. If not, then at least get a camper shell to give them some protection.

Re: Dog got one ride in the bed - no more

I've never let my lab ride in the back (it would end in divorce), but when my truck was new, I decided to let her jump into the bed one day to see how she would do back there. When she hit the bed of the truck, it was a little slippery and she went into panic mode trying to stop, scratched the new bed up from front to back!

Re: Dog got one ride in the bed - no more

Everyone should think of the bed on their Ridgeline like we all had Line-X from the factory. You can replace every surface in the bed excluding the trunk section for less than a quality bed liner. Everyone should get a $50 bed mat and call it a day.

Just imagine what a "real" bed would do when it got scratched. It would rust.
