Walking the dog

Since the pup is up on shots now, started him on a regular routine.

05:45 Up, take a leak in the back yard (dog, not me)

06:00 Fix breakfast, 1.5 cups food 1/2 patty hamburger (dog, not me)

06:05 Cup of coffee (me, not dog)

06:15 Leash at front door, 1 mile walk on road behind and around the school grounds (both of us).

06:40 Back to the house, work on basic commands (sit, stay, down) (dog, not me)

06:45 Get a shower, shave, dress (me, not dog)

07:30 Go to work (both of us)

This seems to work good. Reinforces his morning routine and mine.

Evening

(whenever I get home)

Take a leak in the back yard (dog, not me)

Fix dinner, 1.5 cups food (dog, not me)

Glass of wine or shot of absolut (me, not dog)

Leash at front door, 1 mile walk on road behind and around the school grounds (both of us).

Back to the house, work on basic commands (sit, stay, down) (dog, not me)

Relax in the den, watch a movie, etc.

One more pottie break for the dog in the back yard.

Bedtime!

Afternoon walks are good, too. Maybe not as frenetic as the morning walk. Certainly not in as big a rush to 'get things done'. More time to stop, sniff the flowers...and pee on them.

Re: Walking the dog

You are on the right track with your poochie for a long and rewarding relationship. Razi is a lucky boy to have such a devoted dad.

Routine absolutely works for dogs. Our girls enforce their routine, we cannot forget one bit of it. They remind us what time it is and what we haven't done.

Re: Walking the dog

At this point, we are definately on a routine. Razi will go to the exact same spot (landing on the stairs where I drape the leash) and wait for me. Then the leash goes on and we head out. I've taken him on the 1 mile route, and the 2 mile route. The five miler is next.

Re: Walking the dog

You sound like a good owner. Regularity is what dogs thrive on. I do much the same with mine. The average walk is about an hour long....at a very fast pace! It works the dog out and me as well. I'm getting a canopy on my Ridge soon just so that I can take my dogs to a dog-park nearby. It should be loads of fun!

Re: Walking the dog

I took the truck by the dealership with the ARE canopy on it. Wow, you'd have thought I pulled up in a UFO! All the sales guys came running out! Well, I guess it was the first one local. I know I really like having it on the truck. It gives the pup a place to hang out while I'm in somewhere for a long period of time.
