Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

I just got a second chip in the windshield this morning on the way to work.. I am glad I didnt repair the windshield from the other chip I got right at the start of winter yet.

Now that the weather is warming up I am going to get the windshield replaced. I was waiting for warm weather to hopefully insure a good installation.

Glass weighs a lot and the more a car weighs the more power it takes to drag that weight around. So, the car companies put thinner glass in the cars/trucks to reduce the weight and bump their fuel economy.
That is part of the reason, the other part is passenger cars have to meet a new standard for pedestrian safety. The new glass is safer because it cracks easier upon a collision striking a pedestrian that flies up onto the hood. Once in production it makes sense to use this glass on all your models instead of picking and choosing. This is an ongoing issue on a few forums that I belong too.

Somehow, I don't remember a flying pedestrian causing the replacement of my 3 previous windshields on my RL. I know I was part of the 70's generation, but even I would remember this type of event.

Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

i got a chip & big crack afer 4000 miles. Had to have the windsield replaced.
The origional wind shield appeared to be weak & very thin. Now got 25000 mile with the new windscreen with no problems or wind noise. Had a few chips peppering my last F150 but no cracks or distorsion. I think that Honda used a cheap product and we are all paying the price for this!

Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

I had the very smallest and man I do mean the smallest chip by the passangers side pillar that turned into a foot long crack. At first the dealer kind of said yeah it shouldn't have cracked but too bad. Just as I was leaving he had a change of heart and said they would comp the windshield, which they did. Can't complain I guess.

Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

Husband got a stone chip, which QUICKLY turned into a large crack on drivers side within a day. He never saw or heard the stone hit...but a crack shows up right in the drivers line of view.
A quick GOOGLE on something like 'defective honda windshields' will bring you to a lawsuit...that Honda was hiding defective windshields for certain years of the Element.
I don't see any hits for Ridgeline (yet)...but you wonder.
I'm sure there are certain 'mixtures' they fiddle with for the glass creation, and with any company trying to save money and be aware of the bottom line, who knows what they are cutting out of the glass mix. I'm only saying this because it seems on the 'weaker' end rather than the stronger end.
Not sure what this is worth, but when you have opened ended questions such as this (for the truck), or any others, get on your search engine and plug in.
An example: a co-worker was wondering about the overly pricey Dyson vacuum cleaners. Now, how could something like that cost over $500?
I told her to enter: I hate Dyson Vacuum Cleaners...and a TON of hits comes up on complaints, issues, problems with this item. It told her immediately NOT to buy this item.
Anytime you want the 'skinny' on a product or business, enter: I hate XYZ and you are sure to read plenty on which ever item you are thinking of purchasing.

I think the same could be true if you also typed in "I love xyz ..."

Everyone has good and bad experiences with everything. For example, if you were looking at a RL, and looked in this forum the biggest part of people love their RL. However, go to another truck forum, and they may be slamming the RL as not a "real truck" and why it is not a "real truck".

I have generally found the internet worthless for product reviews, etc. (especailly if you are just typing in "I hate ...) This means you are looking for bad opinions, not all opinions. It is hard to compare the number of complaints, which people would be more likely to post, to the number of satisfied customers. I have more luck talking to someone I know who actually owns the product I have in mind.

Oh, yeah, not that this has anything to do with the RL windshield (which I agree seems weak), but I have a Dyson, and would not trade it for another vacuum. It was expensive, but hands down beats any other vacuum I have owned. Well that and it is cool to watch all of the dirt/debris flying around in the canister I would and will but another one when the time comes. Funny thing was I had to be talked into buying the "too expensive" vacuum by my fiance, as I also did not see how they could cost that much. The people we bought our house from had one, and the carpets looked new. Talked with them, and we were sold after seeing it.

Anybody else have trouble with chipping?

Anybody have wind noise after windshield is replaced?
Got a very small stone chip last week. 9,000 miles. Had it repaired no problem. $50 Cdn.

Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

I am dealing with a windshield issue myself now. That's how I found out about this club. I am now on my THIRD windshield and I've only had my truck a year and a half. I got my first chip after only 2 months. The wind noise is horrible. The windshield guy has done everything he can, it seems to be an issue with the truck. It's really aggravating. I love my truck, but as much as it cost, I hate having to put up with the constant wind noise.

Chips in glass happen to any vehicle. With my Civic, I've had two chips in the first 5 months of ownership.

Did you take it back to Honda or your own glass person?
