Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

tcj,

While I totally agree windshields only get peppered by rocks because many/most people follow too closely, I also know that the angle of some windshields make them more prone to chipping than others. Could be the Ridge is possibly just one of those more prone.

If somehow they don't cover it, go shopping for new insurance that does. This is a make or break deal for me. I haven't been in an accident since I was 16, so the only part of my insurance that I use is the glass coverage - it better be decent.

I've had ONE windshield replaced and I'm about to turn 60,000 miles. Do you really think it's some fluke that I've got really amazing glass that repels crack-causing agents? No, it's because I'm staying away from gravel trucks and anybody spewing crap from under their tires. I know some of you maintain that you aren't driving close to anybody doing this. My wife also says this but the front of her car is peppered with rock chips - and I've also seen how close she drives to other cars. BACK OFF of other cars/trucks and I guarantee you will see a reduction in broken/cracked/chipped windshields.

Man, this is one of the most petty issues I've seen people complain about the truck. I thought the "waaaah, my bed is scuffed" threads were bad. I don't know ANYONE who doesn't get the same number of cracked windshields that we do. This is not unusual. Glass cracks when things hit it.
Well,, I am Glad State Farm covers your glass in YOUR state. I was covered as well until the company sent out letters to customers stating that glass chip repair would be discontinued as of a certain date a years and a half ago. These policys are state by state and not company wide. The only way State Farm will honor glass replacement and repair is if a State Farm member from another state moves into South Dakota, the South Dakota agent has to honor their original coverage until their policy is up for renewal. then they will no longer have glass coverage in this state. Maybe you should look into other states coverage before you start calling people ( ME ) a liar about what my insurace covers and dont cover.! Dave

Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

owned a 2006 ended up with 4 chips thought it was acne
Now own a 2008 and windshield replaced 2 weeks after picking it up. Cracked in the lower right side near shadow line with no sign of chip causing it to do that, Honda replaced no charge, but noticed ticking sound when driving home and located a plastic spacer that goes between the glass and the metal frame under the rubber panel covering the edge of glass, it seems that when the glass expands when using the heater it presses against this, installer left it out of place but did not remove it . Might be a 2008 problem , just have to wait and see.

Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

I picked my RTX up in the rain at dusk and drove her 15 miles home from the dealer. Went to get in the next morning and noticed a chip in the windshield. Called the dealer and at first they were'nt receptive to the idea that it was there when I took it. However, we didn't do a full walk around because of the rain and the time, and as this is the 7th car I bought from them I didn't think it would be a problem. Once I explained that A) we didn't do a walk around, and B) you can't even see it in the rain, they agreed to fix it. Taking it in next week before it spiders.

Lots of little chips and a few long hairline scratches... I find a lot of the RL's have very long glass scratches on the windshield...

Unhappy Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

1200 miles on my Ridge and my windshield looks like a mine field. No big gouges, but a lot of little pinhead sized pits. Honda must have put some soft or dare I say it "cheap" glass in the Ridge to save weight or money or both. My wife noticed them today and she wears coke bottle bottoms for glasses (sorry dear). It's to the point that at night when other headlights hit it from the right angle, it looks like snow. Anybody else have this issue?

PS: The Toy Tacoma I traded in had 50k and not as many pits.

I have noticed since installing my Lund deflector it seems is does redirect the air flow just enough that I have not taken direct hits from gravel and stones. When I didn't have the bug shield on for a year, it seemed everything was
slamming the windshield.

Re: Windshield chipping (3rd windshield with only 9K on truck)

I installed my OEM deflector yesterday. I went with the Honda unit because it stands taller than any other unit I've seen. Can't say if it will help, but she looks good.
