Installed Kaixen Bi-xenon HID

To start, I have an excellent HID 9006 kit on my Mitsubishi Evo (non-factory HID) and this kit is better than the factory HID option. The manufacturer is Kaixen, a top notch Korean HID maker. autodoodad.com is one of their vendors. A lot of satisfied Evo owners on the Evo forums. So I figured I'd try their bixenon H4 kit. Install is easy. Plug and play. It's a single HID bulb with a moving refractor that shifts the light up for the high beam. The typical H4 HID kit lacks this refractor, so you end up losing the high beam. Once you go HID, regular Halogen is completely inadequate.

Any aftermarket HID kit that does not have a self-leveling feature built in (to compensate for varying vehicle loads) is illegal in most states. Be careful unless you have lots of $$$ for tickets (depending on how much the local police enforce the laws).

I don't understand the desire for these mods. I recently had a Nissan Maxima as a rental with Bi-xenon/HID lights. And, I can tell you that the stock headlights in my Ridge were far better that those in the Maxima. As the Maxima did a great job of illuminating the side of the road and not much on the vehicle path. However, neither the Ridge or the Maxima is/was as good as the ones on my traded in BMW. Just my $0.02.

Re: Installed Kaixen Bi-xenon HID

The Kaixen kits illuminate significantly brighter than some OEM HID that I have encounter on the road. Nissan OEM HID (Maxima, 350Z, Infiniti, etc) is only a little brighter than regular halogen. My aftermarket kit is night/day better and world's better than the original halogen. Also, I have yet to see people in front of me flip their rearview mirrors to the "night" setting nor have oncoming cars flashed their high beams at me. My headlights are aimed appropriately and have appropriate beam cutoff minimize HID glare.

Not all OEM HIDs have self leveling so I doubt if the feature is required legally. My Acura did not have it and the S2000 doesn't either. I can't speak for every car with HIDs, but there are at least several sold that do not. I am fairly sure that in Europe self leveling is required, but I do not believe that is the case in the US.

Re: Installed Kaixen Bi-xenon HID

The police will not pull over late model cars unless they are absolutely sure it doesn't come from the factory with HID's. The Ridgeline looks like a vehicle that comes with HID. As long as you don't go with a stupid unnatural colour, you'll be OK.

HID's, when set up correctly, does wonders. They truly are night and day. A buddy of mine has proper HID's on his old school Civic beater. That thing is incredible at night. No glare whatsoever and the cutoff is so straight and pronounced. You cannot overdrive those lights. His HID's were retrofitted and had all the necessary components. Way more effective than run of the mill OEM HID's.

I too would like to see pics of your HID's.

Re: Installed Kaixen Bi-xenon HID

Totally worth the $375 that I spent. Standard halogen headlights are totally inadequate after using HID.
