Door Edge Guards?

Hi All,

Anyone have Door Edge Guards on their RL?

When I purchased my RL there was a very, very small paint chip on the edge of the drivers door. Dealer gave me the option of fixing the chip or putting black door edge guards on all four doors.

I opted for the door guards. (Have not had them installed yet) I have them on one of my other cars and they look good but that car is black. I think they will look ok since I have the aberdeen green with black running boards and black mud guards.

Does anyone have them? How do they look?

have them fix the chip. You'll be happier as you can always add the door edge guards on your own. They are pretty cheap.

Re: Door Edge Guards?

I have the black door edge guards - they were less than $7.00 total, at O'Reileys Auto parts and took less than a minute per door to put on the ridgeline ( need 2 sets ). Use a towel to press them in. Mine will be 2 years old next month.

Love mine! Gives the Ridge more "definition", IMHO! I think you will be really happy when you see it. And if you are not, you can always remove them!
Installed my own, by the way.

Re: Door Edge Guards?

Thanks everyone!

Now I know why the dealer gave me the option. Less money to put on the door guards rather then fix the chip.

Re: Door Edge Guards?

Factory door edge guards are metal and cost over $50. You can get them in the same color as your truck. They are not the plastic door edge guards you can get at Pep boys etc. (not that there is anything wrong with them).

I have the factory door edge guards on mine, My wife bought them for me as a Christmas present. I like that they match the color of my truck.

BTW a bottle of touch up paint only costs $5. Have them give you a bottle of touch up paint, touch it up yourself, then have them install the FACTORY door edge guards.

Re: Door Edge Guards?

I received the mathcing silver OEM door guards for my RL and like them. For some reason, the install on the driver's door was not as easy as the other doors, it still looks like it could come loose.

Re: Door Edge Guards?

RRider,

The dealer said the ones he is putting on are black. I guess they are not factory door edge guides. But we will touchup the chip and then install the guards just as you said.

As far as removing the guards...won't the glue peel off the paint if they are removed?

Thanks.

Re: Door Edge Guards?

A cautionary note: I had the inexpensive door edge guards from a local auto parts store on both my GMC trucks with no problems, but we put some clear ones on our 2003 Accord & it developed a groove (scratch in the paint) down each door right along the inner edge of the guards. I attributed it to the relative softness of Honda paint.

The OEM door edge guards are pretty much a permanent installation & if the Ridgeline guards are anything like the Accord guards, they're pretty substantial & have to be tapped on with a mallet.
